COMPUTERNAME/Guest in login
Dear all, I have recently configured a samba server that I have a strange problem with, but it is not really consistent. I would be grateful for any help I can receive. This is what happens: When I browse the microsoft windows network and find my workgroup my samba server shows up. But when I double click on it I can't fill in my username. Instead it shows my computer name (client) followed

Prebinding for DragonFly/FreeBSD-4
I created patch for DragonFly/FreeBSD-4 for prebinding, based on mdodd@'s patch for FreeBSD-5. The main difference (apart from the target platform) is that the linker needn't be patched. Rtld now uses a hash function to get an unique ID for every ELF object. This has been tested under DragonFly, but should run on FreeBSD-4 too. Feedback appreciated :) cheers simon -- /"\

How to make a network interface come up automatically on link up?
I have a recently installed Mellanox VPI interface in my server. This is an InfiniBand interface, which, through the use of adapters, can also do 10GbE over fiber. I have one of the adapter's two ports configured for 10GbE in this way, with a point to point link to a Mac workstation with a Myricom 10GbE card. I've configured this interface on the Linux box (eth2) using

fsck.ext4 Failed to optimize directory
I had a rather large ext4 partition on an Areca RAID shut down uncleanly while it was writing. When I mount it again, it recommends fsck, which I do, and I get the following error: Failed to optimize directory ... EXT2 directory corrupted This error shows up every time I run fsck.ext4 on this partition. How can I fix this? The file system seems to work ok otherwise, I can mount it and it

Plotting only masked part of data
Hello, I have x and y data to plot (synthetic example): x <- seq(0,4*pi,by=0.1) y <- sin(x) I then want to plot (x,y) in those points where abs(y) is smaller than 0.5. As a first approximation plot(x[abs(y) < 0.5],y[abs(y) < 0.5]) is quite close - however I want to plot with lines, i.e. type="l", and then I get solid lines connecting the endpoint of one

smbclient hangs
Hello, I'm having problems with using smbclient on a win2k share. The server runs samba 3.0.14a on Solaris 9. I want to tar the whole directory of a share. Into a file on the server What I found out so far is, that it works until a maximum file count of 35. It is not size dependant but if the file count in that share exceeds more than 35 the smbclient hangs for ever and with the time is

More current version of bluez
Centos continues to fall behind in with the state of bluetooth development. Nothing new from 5.1 to 5.2. Has anyone got a more recent version working and have compile and rpm build instructions? Link errors on IA32
Has anyone tried to build flac with the INTEGER_ONLY_LIBRARY flag set lately? I'm getting link errors on IA32 for the SSE optimizations lpc_restore_signal_16_intrin_sse2 and lpc_restore_signal_wide_intrin_sse41. Looks like a define check is missing since the implementation of these functions is only included when not building for integer. I had to exclude them at libFLAC/stream_decoder.c:408

Filesystem writes unexpectedly slow (CentOS 6.4)
I have a rather large box (2x8-core Xeon, 96GB RAM) where I have a couple of disk arrays connected on an Areca controller. I just added a new external array, 8 3TB drives in RAID5, and the testing I'm doing right now is on this array, but this seems to be a problem on this machine in general, on all file systems (even, possibly, NFS, but I'm not sure about that one yet). So, if I use
