samba 3 as PDC
Hi,
I'm configuring samba as PDC for my network, but I'm having a few problems:
1) roaming profiles are not working, even if I've made up symbolic links in
the directories, such as (for user luca):
sede:/home/samba-ntprof/luca # ls -l
totale 1
drwx------ 3 luca users 120 2004-11-12 17:06 .
drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 72 2004-11-12 11:58 ..

slow access while crossmounting samba
Hi,
I've got two linux machines with the same distribution and samba 3 that
cross-mounts a share (i.e., machine a mounts a share of machine b and vice
versa). I'm experiencing slow access from the machines to the opposite
mounted share and I don't know what this slow performance can be due to. I'm
not running with oplocks cause the share is accessed only by the other linux

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
I have a problem with smbmount.
I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which
is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp).
Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I
must upgrade that sometime soon).
We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith
server, whereas

Error when using mount with smbfs
I apologize because I know that this has surely been dealt with and
documented before, but I cannot find it anywhere on the samba website,
nor did a google search produce anything. For future reference, some
type of advanced search option for the mailing list archives would be
great. I tried the old google "error" "site:site.to.search" and it
didn't find anything

smbfs patch for 2.6 [PATCH]
First I will apologize for posting my patch here if this is not the correct
place to post a patch.
I know that smbfs is being removed, but we still use it and need it to work.
We have a patch to contribute back to the smbfs in the 2.6 kernel. I have
noticed multiply posts on this issue and we have basically patch the smbiod.c
to fix the reconnect bug in 2.6
Something we did for our patch is

smbfs nls for Linux 2.2.16pre2
Hello
I have updated my version of how to get "nls" working in smbfs for the
changes made in the 2.2.16pre2 Linux kernel (both nls and smbfs). It is
now a bit smaller and perhaps cleaner (except for the CONFIG_SMB_NLS, that
could be removed, and the nls_utf8 abuse :)
Also, it now uses an ioctl to set the codepages to use (borrowed from the
work by Artem V. Ryabov). This allows you to

Need mount -t smbfs to be world/group writable & not only root
Hi,
Need some pointers.
Currently using
mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,pasword=xxx //servername/sharename /mnt/share
Since I can only mount as root, (not in /etc/fstab)
sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,pasword=xxx //servername/sharename
/mnt/share
Problem here is.. I can't get group or world writeable permission on the
share. It's a NTFS share but that is not a problem. I can

smbfs and cifs
I periodically see smbfs questions get asked on this list, and they
usually get one of two responses:
1. smbfs is a kernel module; this list is not the appropriate place to
be asking smbfs questions.
2. You should be using cifs instead.
(Please let me know if either if these is incorrect.)
I was surprised to see, however, that the smbmount / mount.smbfs
manpage makes no mention of cifs as being

[SOLVED] mount.smbfs problem
Hi -
My messages may not be reaching this list. Would someone at least
confirm receipt of this message even if you have no suggestions/
comments re its content?
I have sent several messages concerning mount.smbfs and I guess
no one is using smbfs to mount a Windows machine -or- no one
has encountered my problem. To recap the problem and give a
solution:

Probably a stupid question about smbfs and smb.conf.
This seems like it should have an obvious answer, but I haven't seen a
clear word one way or the other in the man pages or other documentation
that I have read - is smbmount's behavior in any way governed by the
smb.conf file?
The reason I ask is one of the other sysadmins here has been trying to
figure out ways to improve smbfs performance, and he came across the
speed.txt file in

Errors with smbfs/smbmount.
I've been working with smbfs/smbmount the last few weeks to allow my
linux log processing server access to the logs on our NT servers. The
problem is that after a period of time all the smbfs mounts become
invalid with either one of two errors. When you do a 'df -k' to view
the mounts you see the following:
samba:~# df -k

problem with mount -t smbfs
This was working a couple of weeks ago, but it's broken now. When I issue a
command like 'mount -t smbfs //server/share /mount/point' I get an error
that says "
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //mrbig/grego$,
or too many mounted file systems
"
However, when I issue the command 'smbmount //server/share /mount/point/ it
works just fine.

smbfs directory cache broken in 2.2 kernels?
Using RHL 6.0 (2.2.5 kernel) with Win95 systems, smbfs doesn't recognize
(immediately) changes made on the remote the remote system by a user on the
remote computer. After a share has been mounted, if some computer other than
the computer using smbfs to mount the share adds/removes a file to a directory
in
the share, an 'ls' of the mounted directory doesn't show the new/removed

[PATCH] smbfs: smbfs do not honor uid, gid, file_mode and dir_mode supplied by user mount
Hi,
This patch fixes "Samba Bugzilla Bug 999". The last version (2.6.8.1) of
smbfs kernel module do not honor uid, gid, file_mode and dir_mode
supplied by user during mount. This bug is also logged as "Kernel Bug
Tracker Bug 3330". I think this stuff is related to the "unix
extensions". This patch offers to the client side the opportunity to
decide to use or

Yes. I have exactly the same thing. 'Mount' shows them still mounted,
but 'ls -l' on the
