cannot set right file's group after group mapping?
Hi All,
when i did testing with group mapping, i mapped a Unix Group(domadm) with Windows Domain Group(domain users). then i access a samba share from Windows Domain User(administrator), and create a file. but the file's group is still Windows Domain Group(domain user), not Unix Group(domadm). is it right? if it is, how should i check if my group mapping is working well? thanks a lot in

After Upgrading to rc4 (and still with 3.0.0) having Groupmap problems.
Hi,
Before Samba 3.0.0 RC4 I was running Samba 3.0.0 beta3, and when I
upgraded to RC4, I began having problems with group mappings. I didn't
notice at first, because on my laptop I don't normally log on to the
domain. I just noticed when I tried to use my desktop and log on to the
domain... I don't have Domain Admin privileges.
So, I look at 'net groupmap list' ... and it

Samba 2.2.5 & Domain Administrator
Although I will be updating this server to Samba 3.x soon, I have to come
up with a quick solution as soon as possible for the following problem:
I have a WinXP user which currently is registered as a "User" of WinXP
but must be changed to "Domain Admin" in order for some new
software which he must use to be operable. Of course giving him the root
passwd is definately out of

Permissions on Samba share for Windows users
I'm working with Samba 3 on my Gentoo box. So far setting up
andconfiguring Samba w/ldap and krb5 support is pretty straight
forwared. My Gentoo box is now a member server of the domain, shows up
in Active Directory.
I can get a kerbereos ticket from our W2K PDC and connect to windows
shares with as little effort as:
smbclient //server/share -k
Now I'm ready to start moving into

domain admin issue
I have a new Debian testing machine running the Debian Samba 3.0.5.
Everything seems OK except that I cannot get users to have domain admin
rights. I have Windows XP workstations. The workstations join and log
onto the domain fine.
A "net groupmap list" yields:
server:/home/tnolen# net groupmap list

Domain Admins?
Hello all,
Let me say first I'm very new to Linux (only had it running 3 days), so
bear with me if I'm a bit ignorant. I'm unsure if I should even post
this here, or if this list is exclusively for hardware issues...
I'm running into difficulties (on a win2k client) adding the Samba
"Domain Admins" group to the Windows "Administrators" group. I am able
to log

Cannot print PDF-Files...
Hi,
I have a network with a Server running 3.0.14 (Debian sarge), which is
doing quite fine as a PDC and as a printer server (using cups). Almost.
Printing is working, I can print Windows test pages, I can print
from several applications, including MS office. But I cannot print
over the network from Acrobat Reader, not at all. If a network
printer is selected and used, than _nothing_ happens,

Group mapping bugs + PATCH
Hi all !
I've been using group mapping for a few weeks and found some bugs... For
three of them, I tried to develop a small patch. I don't know Samba code
very well and this is my first patch, so there could be errors :-p I hope
my investigations will be useful :)
* Platform :
Here is what I used :
Debian 3.0r1, Samba 3.0.2rc1 - PDC, OpenLDAP 2.1.23 as backend

Help with making samba-3.0.0 PDC and adding a XP/Pro client (and domain user accounts)
I would like to understand how to make my samba-3.0.0 (-15, from Fedora Core
1) a PDC and how to make a XP/Pro box member of that domain and to add a
domain user account, and eventually to ad a few more linux boxen as domain
members into that domain.
This is the output of the PDC box testparm (the PDC box has two eth
interfaces, only eth1 (192.168.1.* and 127.0.0.1 should access the PDC):

Head Domain Admins Group
Is there more documentation for smbgroupedit than the manpage ?
I'm trying to get the domain admins group to work. Steps i taken so far
1. create a unix group domadm
2. add my admin users to the domadm group
3. map the Domain Admins Group to the domadm group
4. make the domain admins group a domain group (smbgroupedit reported it as
unknown)
5. remove all domain users and groups from the

group mappings pitfalls in samba 3
I have recently run across this problem and would like to warn people about it. I had an
already established domain running under Samba 2.2.8. I then upgraded to 3.0. I removed
the 'domain admin users = root' line from my smb.conf because certain tools complained
about it being there. After the upgrade, I followed the Samba 3 HOWTO docs on samba.org. I
created my domadm, domguests, and

Primary group
Hi Everyone,
Looking for that little extra bit of explanation about Primary
groups, SID's and GID's. Just to help me over that final little

Anyone know of a nice site with info? I printed out
<http://ftp.easynet.be/samba/docs/man/howto/> from stem to stern.
But this primary group thing baffles me just a little.

domain group mapping in 3.0.23a issues
How does one create all of the builtin groups for this release?
When using tdbsam with previous releases one would automatically get
such groups as:
System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1
Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1
Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> -1

Win98 Samba Login Script Errors
Hello,
Can anybody please help me with the following errors. Whenever a user from the group "accounting" logs in the the PDC, a login box pops up and the following message appears "Accessed Denied - Accou~!n.bat". The problems seems to ly with people who belong to the accounting group and are running Win98se on the desktop. Absolutely nothing has been changed on the system.

Documentation bug? domadm privileges
Hello
I have been solving a problem how to make a nonroot user able to administer
the domain (add users, groups, modify them etc.) from Windows workstation
using usrmgr.exe
It looks like what is stated in Samba HOWTO collection as prerequisites
is not enough.
First I found Chapter 12 cxl "How to make Samba PDC users member of the Domain
Admins group" - made the nonroot user member of
