partially linear models
Hey,
I am estiamting a partially linear model y=X\beta+f(\theta) where the f(\theta) is estiamted using wavelets.
Has anyone heard of methods to test if the betas are significant or to address model fit?
Thanks for any thoughts or comments.

How to skip errors on doveadm backup for migration ?
Hi there,
I have to migrate data out of a very old (debian 4) and buggy cyrus mailserver.
About 40 Users with 200000 Messages each.
Doveadm backup works quite well and gives me most of the mails. About every 100.000 Mail
cannot be exported by cyrus. I do not want to bother about these errors.
Maybe it is filesystem, maybe it is memory leak, or cyrus bug or whatever.
My problem is that doveadm

Count model prediction
Hello ;
I am doing a regression of count data (number of award and there are some
covariates)
I have estiamted the parameters of negative binomial distribuion (lambda is
a function of covaraites, GLM model) by glm.nb function and training
dataset.
Now I want to predict the number of award (for example y=0, y=1, y=2,) or
testing dataset. I dont know how to calculate this numbers?

Open With "A Wine Application": a ridiculous amount of trash
How do I remove all the "A Wine Application" entries (http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/1413/winetrash.png) from gnome's Open With > Add Application dialog?
As well, for almost every file type I had when wine started doing this, there's an entry in gnome's right-click menu (http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4291/winejunk.png) to open with "A Wine Application".

ridiculous behaviour printing to eps: labels all messed up!
OK, this is really weird!
here's an example code:
t1<-c(1,2,3,4)
t2<-c(4,2,4,2)
plot(t1~t2, xlab="exp1", ylab="exp2")
dev.copy2eps(file="test.eps")
that all seems fine...
until you look at the eps file created, where for some weird reason, if you
scroll down to the end, the code reads:
/Font1 findfont 12 s
0 setgray
214.02 18.72 (e) 0 ta

[PATCH] ram/gf100-: error out if a ridiculous amount of vram is detected
Some newer chips have trouble coming up, and we get bad MMIO reads from
them, like 0xbadf100. This ends up translating into crazy amounts of
VRAM, which destroys all sorts of other logic down the line. Instead,
fail device init.

Optimizing CentOS for gigabit firewall
Hi,
I want to configure CentOS on powerful server with gigabit
adapters as transparent bridge and deploy it in front of server farm.
Can you tell how to optimize the OS for hight packet processing? What
configurations I need to do to achieve very hight speeds and thousands of
packets?

CentOS on HP EliteBook 6930 or Dell Latitude e6400
Hello,
I'm considering the HP EliteBook 6930 or the Dell Latitude e6400
notebooks for CentOS. I'm planning on using these in a situation in
which they are always on, and I want low power and low noise and high
reliability.
HP claims up to 24 hours battery power and Dell up to 19 hours. I figure
this can bridge the gap for most power outages in my neighborhood. I
realize that I

Count objects and print it into a new variable
Hello,
I used R a year ago. With the data I am working with now, I realized that I
need to go back to R. Unfortunately, my memory is not my friend if it comes
down to coding :-)
What I want to do is extract the length of a variable of a file with certain
conditions and then print this number in a new variable..
My file (yukon), contains information about fires in the Yukon Territory,

Yukon NIC - again
Hello.
I have the same problem as many others, PXELINUX (or rather menu.c32)
does not work with Marvell Yukon 88E8055 cards. I have two machines,
Fujitsu LIFEBOOK S7110 and P7230 that have the same problem; menu.c32
will not load.
The version of Marvell's base code is 1.10.1.3 (20060516), Yukon PXE
v5.14.1.3 (20060704), in the machines I have tested. I have tried
downgrading the BIOS on the

Marvell Yukon 8056?
Greetings list-
I''ve got a server ''in the mail'' and I see now on the specsheet that it has Marvell Yukon 8056 NICs onboard. Since I cannot seem to find a HCL for Centos 5 or RHEL5 to help verify, I''d like to know if it works ''out of the box'' on CentOS 5.x or is there additional work to make it function (properly)?
My searching has revealed

5.2 driver for Marvell Yukon 88E8042 PCI-E Fast Ethernet controller
Hello,
I'm trying to install CentOS 5.2 on an HP 6730s notebook.
All's going well except for one little item -- the networking. Never
thought I'd have trouble with an Ethernet adapter, so I didn't even
check before buying this machine; it was cheap.
The adapter is a Marvell Yukon 88E8042 PCI-E Fast Ethernet controller. I
can't find a Linux driver for it except one that

Gigabit Ethernet and samba network bandwidth
Hi all,
I am notice strange behaviour of samba in our mixed
fastEthernet/gigabitEthernet enviroment.
First of all let me to describe our situation.
We have a samba server running debian unstable with 2.6.3 kernel
installed. Server has a gigabit copper connection (tg3 driver) to the
100/1000 Megabit switch (3COM 4228G). Client is a WinXP/Linux workstation
connected by ordinary 100 Megabit

domU with gigabit ethernet or recommendations?
Dear Xen Users,
I have a rhel5 dom0 machine with four nics, two public and two
private. My goal is to run two xen instances, a fully virtualized
rhel4(with a custom kernel, hence the fully virtualized) and a
paravirtualized rhel5. Each instance will need one public and one
private nic with gigabit connectivity. At the moment I''m simply
bridging two nics to each instance. Is this the

CIFS & Gigabit Eth - 35MB/sec limit
Hi honorable people!
In self-education purposes only, I would like to ask is 35 Mbytes/sec
bandwidth limitation of SMB/CIFS in Gigabit applications?
I've try read large file (45GB) from server to client's dev/nul and don't
get bandwidth greater than specified...
But, using FTP or NFS I get REAL stable read speed at 80 MB/sec!
Same picture in synthetic TCP tests.
Why while SMB in
