Miserable read performance (factor ~60 too slow)
Hi, I am trying to migrate my files from a Windows XP Pro box to a new server running OpenSuSE 10.2/Linux 2.6.18 (x86_64) and Samba 3.0.25b. The Server is a new Athlon 64 X2 4000+/1GB with two 400GB SATA disks in a software RAID1 configuration. The share file system is reiserfs on a 350GB RAID1 partition. I have a small LAN with three PCs on 100MBit Ethernet and a Laptop on WLAN on a 4 Port

Simple CIFS Linux permission
Greetings all, I have a VERY basic fileserver in my network, that works well for my needs, and have run into a problem that I can't solve. I am sure that the more eperienced users here will be able to help me in less than 5 minutes, so please, if you have some time. My smb.conf [global] workgroup = msheimnetz server string = Samba Server Version %v netbios name =

Tell Samba, it should not allocate disk memory before copying file
Hello everybody, i am running samba 3.0.23c and i have a little problem when writing a file to a share. When i connect to my samba server, all the shares are shown correctly. Then i choose the one (my usbstick) where i would like to copy some files to. My client is a windows XP client and what happens is, that samba first creates the file and all the needed memory on the usbstick, before it

cp weird behaviour, some copied files differ from original.
Hi. I know that for the problem that will follow many things other than ext3 are involved, like a kernel upgrade, a possible coreutils mis-behaviour and other, so I beg your pardon if I'm not in the right place ... Now the problem. I have met a trouble upgrading web/dns server running linux. Precisely, I have upgraded the kernel from 2.4.9 to 2.6.6 and the hard disk also, from 20Gb to

PostgreSQL CASCADE not copied to test db
When the unit test harness creates a test database from the development database, the ON DELETE CASCADE constraints I have on my foreign keys are not copied into the test database. (I can tell by looking at db/development_structure.sql.) That means the fixtures can''t load/unload from the test database properly. In other words, all my tests fail with the same error message:

files moved, copied files, operate in different ways
Hi, I have a problem with the way in which my friend manages the access permissions to files. I have a server ldap, acls, samba.in a SLES9.

Google launches social search copied idea from Find1Friend.com running on Xapian!
Social Networking Search Google and Bing launches social search that I invented and developed at http://Find1Friend.com/ before running on Xapian. They copy inventors ideas and never gave credit to the inventor, the exact same way when I wrote first social networking site in 1999 at http://MyWBS.com , Friendster, MySpace, Facebook and others copied the idea, made tons of money, held hundreds

secret.tdb copied from server to server
Hello there, We have Samba 3.0.2a installed on two solaris 8 servers in a failover cluster (using Veritas Cluster Server). We're using it for windows and unix print servers. Right now, we have one server with one netbios name advertised (printserver1) and the other with a netbios name of printserver2. Both have been joined to our windows NT 4.0 domain. We have an interface that fails

boot bootcd (isolinux) copied on the hard disk
Hi, I try to boot some bootcd copy on the hard drive. I read (an try) that it's impossible to boot a cdrom .ISO image . ok So now I "unzip" the .iso into a folder (not a partition ! Because I have lot of .iso), and convert the entry from the isolinux.cfg to a valid grub entry (put in my menu.lst). The iso come from a bootable cd with isolinux. I will make a script for the

Need to rename file copied using rSync from NT to Solaris
Hi, We want to copy a file from NT to Solaris using rSync. There is a job running on Solaris looking for this file. So we want to copy the file with different name and then rename it to what the job is looking for. (Don't want the job to pickup incomplete file) How can this be done with rSync? FTP can do this but it's use is not allowed. TIA

not all files copied
Hi, I'm using rsync to copy and sync a directory of about 25,000 files across two machines. I used rsync to make an initial copy, from machine 1 to machine 2, and then syncing back incremental changes from machine 2 to machine 1. On the initial copy from machione 1 to machine 2, I found that a number of files failed to copy, but that they were copied on a second try. There were no warnings

Libvirt ESX: Image file not getting copied to ESX server
Hi, I am trying to start a node using libvirt on ESX hypervisor. Before starting I am performing the following steps: 1) vol-create datastore1 /local/new_volume.xml (Creating a volume in pool) 2) define /local/esxdomain.xml (Defining a node) 3) start MyNode (Starting a node) I tried to get the status of my node and it is showing *running *but I am not able to ping my node (as it is in network).

Teliax TOS copied from Vonage?
TelIAX, one of the new VoIP-to-PSTN gateway providers, has their terms of service posted on their signup page: http://teliax.com/user_admin/signup/s1.php They look strangely familiar--it's exactly the same as http://www.vonage.com/features_terms_service.php with s/Vonage/Teliax/. (And it's cut off about halfway through). Anyone else notice this? Brad

Some moved or copied messages get stuck in tmp
Hello. I have seen in recent posts that there are other people with this problem, and it is very important for me, as it is the only cause for not putting Dovecot in production in all mail servers in my University. When moving/copying messages, some of them get stuck in the tmp directory of the destination folder, effectively lost for the user. I have been tracing the problem, and it looks that

dovecot-1.2.9: OK No messages copied
Hi, When I issue an IMAP copy command using the wrong UID, the server gives an "OK No messages copied" response. This seems like the wrong response to me. If the UID doesn't exist, then it should respond with a "No" response - maybe something like "NO - copy error: bad UID" I believe "OK No messages copied" would only be a suitable response if the

Copied file becomes infinately large
I'm trying to back-up a set of windows machines onto a single Linux machine, so that I can easily make a tape from there. The Linux Machine (RedHat 7.3, running samba 2.2.6), is set to use mount.smbfs to log in to each machine's Administrative share, and copy several files from the hard drive. One machine is giving me a great deal of difficulty, however. Our last remaining window's
