Beta IE7 Policy Template
Hi all,
Just finished all of the "annoyance" issues with IE7 and started putting
together an IE7 policy template for System Policy Editor. This is just
a "beta" release I guess.
Get it Here:
http://files.pcc-services.com/files/samba/ie7beta1.adm
Here is what I included so far:
- Always Show Menu bar
- Set Menubar to Top Position
These two basically make IE7 look more

Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System
Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the
NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated.
Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an
updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows
2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL

Yet another Samba How-to
Hi all,
Just wanted to let you guys know that I put together a "High Level"
Samba How-to that I believe is very informative for "Samba Beginners". I
wrote it using Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server as part of a book I
promised a few clients that I contract for - although I did write it in
such a way that it can be used for virtually any GNU/Linux Distribution.

Updating System Policy Templates
Hi all,
I am going to be in the process of updating my custom system policy
templates (probably within a month or two) and I am asking for what
policies anyone is in need of to help them deploy samba as a domain
controller.
Currently I basically have a single template.adm file, a few people have
asked me to separate them into a few different files that would serve an
overall single purpose - I

Some Vista Info reguarding Profiles
Hi All,
I just started really looking into deploying Vista in a Domain
Environment and here is some info I gathered so far:
With Vista, Microsoft Updated their "profiles" to version 2, thus Vista
profiles will not co-exist with previous Windows profiles. To alleviate
the need to specify a different profile for Vista, Microsoft decided to
automatically add a ".V2" to the

WINS server 127.0.0.1 timed out registering IP
Hi all.
After set up a BDC, I found a weird problem on my log.nmbd file, the case is that my nmb (on BDC) is not able to connect to the local wins "server", just receive a time out .
I set the wins support = yes which is the only mandatory parameter according to samba doc.
I tried to shut down the firewall even.
The log output is:

new IP on an iface and nmb's behaviour
hi everyone,
I observe a peculiar "behaviour" behaviour of nmb, peculiar
to me at least, could be that "this is how it works", thus
asking.
If I add an IP on the iface that nmb is already operating
then I see such a message:
Samba name server GOER is now a local master browser for
workgroup PRIV_NET on subnet 192.168.2.204
204 is that new IP, but then windows boxes do

I had exactly the same issue with dual dhcp servers. I solved it by
modifying the script to do conditional updates.

smbclient oddness
I forgot to mention that using the smbclient option
-A /etc/cred/authfile
behaves the same way as attempting to manually enter the password on
the command line; failing in 4.12.2 and working in 4.11.0
Thanks, Grant.

smbclient oddness
Hi all.
I have had this apparently inconsistent behavior in smbclinet
since, around 4.11.(6?). 4.11.0 seems fine.
I am on fedora 31 so I have just been keeping smbclient at 4.11.0 but
that is not an option in stock fedora 32 which I would like to use now.
My main problem with it is that it seems to be stopping automount
working on samba shares of Fed32 clients.
Any suggestions welcome...

smbclient works with IP address but not hostname
Hi All,
I've configured a Fedora 20 server with samba to share a few user
directories and a printer.
From a Windows 8 laptop, I am able to address the samba server by it's
name (fs1)
From a Fedora 20 client (ws1), I am able to address the samba server by
IP address, but not by name.
[gruss at ws1 ~]$ smbclient --version
Version 4.1.15

smbclient oddness
Sorry all,
I think I attached the wrong files.
Apologies for the noise. Correct files attached.
again ..
these are from the logfile on the server and were in the log file named
192.168.168.13.log
192.168.168.13 is the IP address of the test client orgonon that I have
set up for this.
I have cut two sections from the log and they start at the same point
and seem to be the same until line 162;

NTConfig.pol
Hi list.
I've just configured a PDC server using RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (update
5) and Samba 3.0.25a.
Everithing is working fine. I'm not using LDAP and all my client machines
are installed with Windows XP Professional.
I used the Mike Petersen website (
http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html) to help me creating the
NTConfig.pol file and created custom profiles

PDC/BDC Questions
Software:
OS: Redhat 9
Samba Ver: Samba 3.0.0 (Plus excel writelock patch, waiting for 3.0.2!)
OpenLDAP Ver: 2.0.27-8
Just a quick question about PDC / BDC interaction, my plan is to distribute Samba (with slave ldap backend) BDCs to remote facilities, as well as have one on each network segment in the hopes of avoiding unnecessary nmb broadcast traffic.
My question is this: Will the PDC /

Setting up a PDC + multiple BDCs across subnets
hello,
I'd like to setup domain authentication purely based on Samba Domain
Controllers. Each subnet would have its own BDC (with security = domain
option), forwarding smb requests to the PDC (located on the backbone),
ie authentication, shares..
My PDC is LDAP based, all that part is ok, win98 workstations
successfully log into the PDC. I use idealx smbldap tools, that seem to
work fine. I

WINS doesn't work on some ip addresses in multihome setup
Hello everybody!
Still struggeling with my latest Samba setup, I've just run accross
another problem which I can't figure out on my own. Samba is supposed to
act as a WINS server (among other things) on a multihomed machine. (The
Samba version is 3.5.1 as part of Debian Squeeze)
Here's the [global] part of the samba setup:

Changed IP address
I have changed the IP address of 8 windows 2003 servers that were
connected to a samba domain controller. The problem is that when one of
the machines try to resolve the netbios name of one of the other
machines it still returns the old IP address. I have tried to use the
lmhosts file to resolve the name but the system wants to use WINS over
the local files. I cannot find a way to remove
