Samba-AD HowTo Was: RE: Can't get single sign on to workafter joining linux toan AD domain
For everyone else's reference, John just gave me a call and issued a challenge to put my money where my (big) mouth is. So i'll be doing some work on the documentation in the next little while, specifically to do with adding Samba member servers to an AD infrastructure. If you have troubleshooting tips you picked up, or suggestions of things that need to be included, please let me know.

Samba-AD HowTo Was: RE: Can't get single sign on to work after joining linux toan AD domain
Hi all,
i've just gone through a fairly long and involved troubleshooting process trying to do something similar to the problem described below and just as a general observation, the documentation available for joining a Samba Server to an AD domain tends to be disjointed and difficult to find. The Samba By Example doesn't really mention Samba in an AD network at all and the Official

attempted upgrade this weekend
Morning,
This weekend I attempted an upgrade of my primary samba server from 3.0.24
to 3.3.3. When testing this primary server after the upgrade I had a
few issues, so rolled back the upgrade until I can find solutions. This
server also has the OpenLDAP server local to and co-located with samba.
The two things that initially didn't seem right are that each time I
logged into a windows XP box

problems xp joining samba pdc
Morning,
I have three machines, two xp and one win2k, that join the samba pdc fine.
I have tried to join others to this same samba pdc using the same
accounts for authentication without success. The xp machine first says
the user does not exist, I click ok and go back to the screen for the
domain account authorized to join the domain and press ok (or next) again
and this time the xp box says the

[LLVMdev] Cross compilation question
Hello,
I wonder if it's possible to cross compile regular linux packages
(autotools based) into llvm bitcode.
Such bitcode could run on multiple target platforms using lli.
So for example if we take 'tar' sources and compile them, we have
'tar' bitcode.
We can run it using 'lli tar'.
If it was possible in general, then probably building lots of linux
packages could be

use of predict() with confidence/prediction bands
To my understanding, a confidence interval typically covers a single
valued parameter. In contrast, a confidence band covers an entire line
with a band. In regression, it is quite common to construct confidence
and prediction bands. I have found that many people are connecting
individual confidence/prediction interval values produced with
predict(object,sd.fit=T,type="conf/pred") and

bootstrap based confidence band
I'm trying to find a bootstrap based confidence band for a linear model.
I have created a data set with X and Y
X=runif(n,-1.25,1.25)
e=rnorm(n,0,1)
Y=exp(3*X)+5*sin((30*X)/(2*pi))+2*e
fit=lm(Y~X)
summary(fit)
I define a bootstrap function named PairedBootstrap which is not listed here. Than I try many ways to find the confidence band. One way is to predict Y using the model I get above for

migration from redhat AS3/4
We have 30 or so boxes that are currently running either redhat as3 or
as4 and would like to migrate them to Centos 4.2.
We have a local centos 4.2 repository using yam. I have in the past
updated es3 to as3 by removing the redhat-release rpm and installing the
other redhat rpm. I realize there are virtually no differences in es
and as3, except for access to additional packages. In any

Pointwise Confidence Bounds on Logistic Regression
Hi all. I hope I have my terminology right here...
For a simple lm, one can add ?pointwise confidence bounds? to a fitted line
using something like
>predict(results.lm, newdata = something, interval = "confidence")
(I'm following DAAG page 154-155 for this)
I would like to do the same thing for a glm of the logistic regression type,
for instance, the example in MASS pg

Pointwise division of two zoo objects?
Just trying to create returns from prices, and do something like:
returns.z = tail(prices.z,-1)/head(prices.z,-1) - 1 # should be equivalent
to returns = exp(diff(log(prices.z))) - 1
Curiously, I get a zoo object back with zeros everywhere and also with the
index having one fewer element than it should.
Does anyone know how to pointwise divide zoo objects, and what exactly "/"

has anyone experienced problems with ocfs2 1.2.5-1 using Emulex LP10000 HBA cards and EMC CX700 SAN's?
Does anyone have any experience with Emulex HBA cards (LP10000) using OCFS2,
Linux AS4 U4 x86_64 AMD? I'm trying to find out whether this is a verified
combination, if anyone has successfully used it. I have that
hardware/sofware combination, and am experiencing
stability/performance/panic/hang issues with OCFS2.

R 1.2 build
I've been trying to build a bundle with the R-devel snapshot from

trying to do this yet.)
It is failing with the message

It happens after "removing junk files" and just after the message

mac spoofing
Hi,
I have the following Problem:
My Rootserver stands at a hoster, I run a debian sarge and installed Xen
3 there latetly.
I booted the xen Kernel - everything ok.
However: when I started xend, the server instantly stopped responding.
My Hosters Support said, that was due to a sort of mac spoofing
protection in the switch, which disabled the Port, to which my server is
connected, because there

Transfer rates faster than 23MBps?
We use SMB to transfer large files (between 1GB and 5GB) from RedHat AS4
Content Storage servers to Windows clients with 6 DVD burners and
robotic arms and other cool gadgets. The servers used to be Windows
based, but we're migrating to RedHat for a host of reasons.
Unfortunately, the RedHat Samba servers are about 2.5 times slower than
the Windows servers. Windows will copy a 1GB file

Two uplinks, two networks and policy routing help requested
I am hoping that someone with more experience and knowledge than I can
assist me in finding a solution ;)
We have a RedHat AS4 box with 5 interfaces. Two interfaces serve two
different networks and two interfaces connect to two different uplinks.
The fifth interface is our management interface.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words I attempted to come up with a
