ntconfig.pol not loaded
hi samba community and team ! I' m playing with policies under win2k/samba3/ntconfig.pol/poledit It worked at first, but now seems my win2k test machine doesn't want to load the ntconfig.pol located into \\mysmbpdc\netlogon I've seen some threads about the same prob. but none with a solution. I know there is a project with an "editreg" tool planned. But for now I would like

Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated. Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows 2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL

Windows 2K/XP Profile/Homedir replication issue?
Hey there, Just a question for you Samba 2.2.x gurus out there :) We have a contingent (a steadily increasing contingent) of Win2K and WinXP workstations. Does anyone here know how to stop the profiles from replicating? If we create a file in the profile dir, say \\PDC\UserHome\profile.doc. It will replicate that to the profile directory, while one file or two files are not a problem, we use

NTConfig.POL not working for Win 2000 (for XP working fine)?
I'm just exploring the Profile Editor, described on http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html - and policies saved to NTConfig.pol file and copied to the netlogon share work great for Windows XP machines. However, with Windows 2000, they don't work at all. Winh XP machines - policies are applied. I see in Samba logs that the NTConfig.pol is copied from the server to the w2k

Windows update
Hi! How do you guys solve windows security updates? Is there a way to force windows computers to be updated. Even more flexible is if one can update windows through login script. NTConfig.pol
Hi list. I've just configured a PDC server using RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (update 5) and Samba 3.0.25a. Everithing is working fine. I'm not using LDAP and all my client machines are installed with Windows XP Professional. I used the Mike Petersen website ( http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html) to help me creating the NTConfig.pol file and created custom profiles

few idea about dealing with "Large Roaming Profiles"
Well, I put it here. All the experience gained in about-half-an-year-management of Samba-PDC + numerous NT4 workstations is included. Also, I'd be glad to hear from you what did I miss! 1) when NT4-workstations are organised into "domain", there's some action assosiated to this: "to log into domain". samba ain such case acts as PDC (primary domain controller),

creating NTConfig.POL
I have an NTConfig.POL I created from poledit with the Windows 2000 Administrator toolkit. It contains my WSUS configuration, and NTConfig.POL is placed in my [netlogon] share and is being loaded fine by the clients. Is this still the propery way to create NTConfig.POL files, or is there a newer utility I should be using? I'm looking at Vista and it uses .admx templates, which I guess

NTconfig.pol not used
I am running Samba 2.2.7a on SuSE 8.0 and all Windows/XP clients in a PDC configuration. All runs great except for one problem. I cannot get NTconfig.pol to be used. I have placed it in the netlogon share and read/execute permissions are wide open. I turn on samba loglevel=3 and I never see samba even try to look for NTconfig.pol, or any *.pol file. This occurs for all of my clients. Any

The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all, Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here? Regards, Joost.

W2K Workstation not reading NTConfig.pol
I have recently set up an small SAMBA network(just my server and a W2K SP4 Workstation). My Server is acting as a PDC. Everything seems to work flawlessly, users, roaming profiles, netlogon script, etc... But I cannot make this machine to read my NTConfig.pol file. I have it at my NETLOGON share [/srv/netlogon] with rwxr-xr-x permissions. I have tried with different filenames (NTConfig.POL,

User Profiles
Hello all. I'm in the process of getting roaming profiles up and running on a RH 7.3 installation, running as a PDC on an 'NT Domain'. I've been reading the PROFILES.txt, and need to clear some things up. Do the rules that apply for WinNT, apply to Win2000, specifically the NTConfig.Pol file. If it does, I can't find it on either the samba server or the Win2000 machine,

time server directive and synchronizing Win XP clients
Hi all! I have configured a Samba PDC (3.0.7) on a Fedora Core 2 machine with LDAP authentication (conform http://samba.idealx.org/smbldap-howto.en.html). I have about 180 Windows XP Pro clients using this PDC to log onto the domain, which works great! However I seem to have trouble synchronizing the time on the clients to the time on the server. The users (in group Domain Users) do not have

ntconfig.pol for samba3.5.6+openldap+Win7
Hi all, All clients are Win 7. How can I transmit rules defined in gpedit for users (for example forbid execution of regedit) to the Default User roaming profile? Is it done with a ntconfig.pol ? If yes, how can I make it ? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.

Controlling use of roaming profiles
We are using a system running Red Hat Linux 7.0 with Samba 2.2.7a as our PDC. For the most part, we want to use roaming profiles, so that users' settings are backed up via the PDC, and are available if they need to change or reinstall their Windows desktop machine. However, there are a few Windows systems (running NT 4.0 or Windows 2000) for which we would like to be able to disable roaming
