samba4wins - all ok but how to use nmblookup from my PDC?
I installed samba4wins on two of my Fedora Core 3 servers (from src rpm), on one PDC (samba 3.0.21c) and on one standalone server without samba, in order to test samba4wins. I think I managed to install and to setup properly the software but it seems nmblookup is not working on the PDC samba: [user]$ nmblookup '*' querying * on 192.168.19.255 name_query failed to find name *

Matt - thanks for the tip on passwdqc. That is not installed by default on Slackware, but it is in the SlackBuilds repository. I'll install it and check it out. Problems accessing samba 3.5.7 from Windows 2008
Hi folks, i've set up a samba 3.5.7 as a ADS Memberserver (W2K3). Accessing this server from xp, vista or server 2003 is no problem. trying to access it from windows 2008 results in "network path not found" or generic network error. Share a directory via NFS and Samba at the same time not possible
Hello Folks, i'have a problem share a directory to both unix(nfs) and windows(samba). The main problem is, that the rights are associated to winbind groups. the user in question can access the files from windows correctly and locally correctly (via su -$USER). If i mount the directory via nfs and make a su - $USER i can't write to the directory. when calling getfacl $DIR i can see, that

freeBSD User provider
Hello, from the doc it seems that the User type has a provider of ''pw'' for FreeBSD. It seems the provider does not allow dupelicate, does not allow to manage the homedir and to manage password. in the code the duplicate uid is set so it seems the doc is out of date on this :) - manage home directory, i don''t really understand what is that parameter. Well, I have been busy getting child #4 off on her way to college (joining #2). So now it is quite with just the 2 youngest and I can get work done again!. tar stops as follows: /root/.nautilus/metafiles/x-nautilus-desktop:%2F%2F52F.xml tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors. Worker cleanup and TTL
Hello. I read in an old announcement by Ezra, relating to the older version of BackgrounDRb, about workers being able to clean up after themselves and a TTL feature. I''m not sure if these things are present in the newer version. I''ve tried overriding the delete method in my worker but when I call delete_worker, the method doesn''t appear to be called. Is there a right

Hello List, I am having problem in getting iptables recent module working for me, so I was looking into /proc to get some clues. I see following line in the /proc for my iptables recent rule: # cat /proc/net/ipt_recent/badguy src=10.0.0.17 ttl: 63 last_seen: 3301974512 oldest_pkt: 2 3301973507, 3301974512 What does ttl mean? Is it time-to-live or what? What does it signify? -- CS

WINS client 'ttl'
Hello. So, my Samba server, as a WINS client, registers itself with the [Windows] WINS server. Then, when (how often) does it refresh its WINS registration ? I have a problem in that the Windows WINS server is losing its WINS db, then my customers can't find my Samba server. Is there a way to instruct my Samba servers to re-register more often ? Thanks. Unable to Set TTL for Name Server Record
I noticed when Samba initially created a NS it gave it a ttl=900. If I delete this record from my zone and create a new one. It gives the NS a ttl=0. Attempting to set using Microsoft DNS tools does not take. Can this be done any other way? Using samba-tool? Thanks. using bind dlz is there a way to set ttl to zero?
I'm still not sure of the best option for my setup. I have a couple test domains and the dhcp for my domains is handled by another server that I use as a router. I currently have it set to point to ns records at my ad dc servers so that requests that are domain specific get answered by the correct ad dc. The only issues that arise are cached records when I update something. One option
