ldapsam backend for standalone server - is it possible?
Hi, List,
I am wondering if it is possible to set up a
standalone server with ldapsam backend. I mean, not to
set it up as a domain controller; ideally I don't want
a windows domain but would like to stick with the
windows workgroup mode.
All the samba officail documents and other docs on the
web are for set it up as a [primary|backup] domain
controller.
Below I list the mimimal working

Running a .NET 2.0 application in Wine
Hello,
I'm using wine-0.9.35, and when running an application
Wine tells me to install the Windows version of Mono.
I have done this (version 1.2.3), but it still fails
to run. The relevant error is:
Unhandled Exception:
System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was
thrown by the type initializer for
System.Windows.Forms.ThemeEngine --->

udev - by-id
Hi,
I am trying to set up a CentOS 4 machine with various iSCSI mounts for
Oracle, but devices keep on moving around, causing the mounts to fail
while called by the sd[a-f] names.
We thought about using labels, but, as some of the partitions do not
use EXT3, that was discarded, so we thought about using udev and by-id.
The problem is that udev does not seem to create the by-id folder or

OT - IP Tables - forwarding to localhost
Hi,
I am trying to set up a firewall rule so calls to old_mailserver:25 get
redirected to localhost:25. I have seen quite a few rules and none seem
to work.
I have tried with the firewall enabled (configured to allow smtp) and
disabled, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
One of the commands I have been using is:
/sbin/iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -d old_mailserver_ip/32

Noob Rails patcher - problems running the sqlite3 tests...
Hi,
I am following the guide here:
http://guides.rubyonrails.org/contributing_to_ruby_on_rails.html
I have an ubuntu 11.04 VM setup, installed rvm, and ruby (ruby 1.8.7
(2011-06-30 patchlevel 352) [x86_64-linux]).
Pulled down the rails from github and created a 3.0 branch:
$ git branch --track 3-0-stable origin/3-0-stable
$ git checkout 3-0-stable
I can run the non-db tests ok, all pass

ZT_CHANCONFIG failed on channel 1: No such device or address
I have had a TDM400 with 2 FXO and 2 FXS working for ages (>12 months). It has stopped working. All four green lights are still lit. I have rebuilt zaptel and asterisk and restarted but the problem persists.

Red Hat and "use sendfile"
Recently I've seen several suggestions on this list for the enabling of "use
sendfile" as a means to improve throughput. I thought this was peculiar
since the doc says it is enabled by default. I guess it isn't.
On both RHEL4 (Samba v3.0.10) and Fedora Core 4 (Samba v3.0.14) the entry
for "use sendfile" in the smb.conf says:
Default: use sendfile = yes
Hmm.

Samba 3.0.25 plugin changes
Greetings,
Before I start digging into making our local passdb plugin work with Samba
3.0.25, is there any heads up I need to know about?
I tried to compile the example plugin in samba-3.0.25/examples/pdb, but it
fails. See below for a sample of the error messages.
If I try to compile the same example that comes with Samba v3.0.24, the
example code compiles without any issues?
Any

A smbd process pegging CPU at near 100% with v3.0.10-1FC2 RPM
Maybe it's stuck in a library call loop. Try ltrace -p 2170 -f -o

Diva Server BRI hangs up after about 25 seconds
I have a Diva Server BRI installed in a Debian system
running Asterisk 1.2.22. When a call comes in the
Background application plays a couple of times.
Halfway through the second time, the call is
disconnected (total time connected about 25 seconds).
I've posted various configs below. Any advice on how
to debug would be appreciated. We are located in New

TDB functionality document
Hi,
Does someone know a document which explains the TDB structure.
functionalites, and format of the TDB files etc.
I need to understand why some of the TDBs like messages.tdb, unexpected.tdb,
brlock if not read_only, locking.tdb, session.tdb, wins.tdb are called with
TDB_CLEAR_IF_FIRST tdb flags.
Why some TDBs are opend with O_RDWR|O_CREAT flags viz. gencache.tdb,

question re multiple backends and the 'guest' backend
An inherited system has the following configuration:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://10.10.10.10 smbpasswd guest
What is the purpose of using multiple backends? The smb.conf man page
simply states that each backend will be searched in turn but why would
one ever use such a setup?
Secondly, the man page does not mention the 'guest' backend. To me
such a backend implies that an

Samba3 in W2k AD, W98 clients need password for Samba share
Hello everybody,
I've setup a file server with Debian GNU/Linux (Sarge) and Samba v3.0.10
with ACL, Kerberos etc... so I can join the Windows 2000 domain. I can
use users from domain on file server without problems and Windows 2000,
XP clients can access Samba shares.
But when I try to connect to \\fs from Windows 98 client (in domain) it
requests password from me (\\fs\IPC$). I have

Just a side-remark: These tdbs have nothing to do with ctdb,
they are purely local.

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15]
I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've
recently encountered:
Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are
incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp
clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and
perfectly usable) by the old

tdbbackup with bouncing/shutting down samba possible?
Hi,
We are a small company, which has just started using samba.
Recently we have faced a few issues regarding the TDBs getting corrupted.
I have read that the only way of getting around this issue, is to regularly
take tdbbackups.
But, this process needs a downtime of my samba server, which we would not
want.
Instead, is there a way where I can take the tdbbackup with out shutting
down samba

hebrew characters
I'm trying to use rsync (version 2.6.9) to back up some files. However, a few
of them contain Hebrew characters. While I can back them up, the filenames
come through scrambled (I don't have Hebrew characters anymore). I've tried
the -8 switch, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

The files are created on Windows and saved on a samba share (v3.0.24). I can

Samba 3.0.24 ported to OS/2 - a couple of problems
Hi all,
I've recently managed to compile Samba v3.0.24 for OS/2 and have
debugged most of the issues.
The positive is that relatively few source changes were required to
get the daemon working, however, having said that, there are two
problems that I'm still having trouble with.
1) smbpasswd is generating a broken password - so password protected
clients can't connect.
