weird winbind problem
I'm setting up a samba server that should authenticate against a samba 3.0 +Ldap PDC server. This is the situation 1) getenet passwd and getent group are ok 2) wbinfo -t -> checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded 3) wbinfo -g -> lists all the groups on PDC (nice!) 4) wbinfo -u -> lists all the users on PDC (nice again!) the problem is wbinfo -a test 1: a non existing user

Samba on RHEL 6: Permission denied when mounting FUSE partition
Hello, I am successfully connecting my Windows box to a RHEL 5 over SMB. This works for both mounting a regular share as well as (my own implementation of) a FUSE mountpoint. On RHEL 6 I can only mount a regular share, but not a FUSE mountpoint. I am getting a Permission Denied error. On both machines I have disabled firewall and I set SELinux to permissive. Does anybody know why this

Is it possible to change the root/Administrator user to another username?
Greetings Samba users, In the process of setting up Samba, one of the item you need to need is add a root user to the samba password database. I was wondering if it is possible to change the name of the Samba root/Administrator user to another user, like smbroot ? I checked the 'username map' option in the man pages, but it doesn't appear to do what I want. From the man page it

Accessing a user mailbox from another user
Hello, I'm looking for something maybe similar to master password but for final users and I don't know if there is already a way I could do it with dovecot. I have accounts that are used by a set of users who know their password. But I now want to remove this shared password and the users has to access to this shared account with their own password. Using shared folders is not an

samba caching a broken krb5.conf.NETBIOSDOMAINNAME
i am in a mixed win2000 and win2003 R1 ActiveDirectory environment. Have always had ntlmv2 server and client required. LM and NTLM have always been rejected. That is how it has been for 10 years. Mounting from CentOS 5 to the windows servers has not been an issue for years. However, using ADS credentials for Linux workstation logons has always been a issue. If using ADS credentials to logon

How to use Master Users.
Hi. I'm testing out the new 'master users' feature, and I'm not having any luck getting it to work. Anyone out there using it yet? SID-UID mapping issue on Samba 3.0.4 in an AD Domain
I have problems with SID to UID mapping using winbind on a FreeBSD 5.2/Samba 3.0.4 as a member server of a Win2k domain controller. I use heimdal-0.6.1 for kerberos. I would like my XP machines in the domain to use the share with the user accounts defined in Active Directory. At a first glance it seems to work: the connection to the share succeeds without a prompt for a password. Users may

reading -- and editing -- ebooks
Last week I bought a couple books, not ebooks. I considered buying the ebook, but don't want to need a special device/appliance to read it. I'd much prefer to read ebooks on the Linux (CentOS) machine I'm already using. Also, I'd like to be able to programmatically convert the ebook into a format I can edit myself, e.g., HTML. I have no experience owning or purchasing ebooks.

[LLVMdev] A LLVM shout-out from Charlie Stross
[ Sorry if this is the wrong list; I don't know of an 'llvm-news' list ] In a discussion about ebooks on his blog (http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2012/07/why-ebooks-are-not-like-paper-.html): > Why ebooks are not like paper books [snip] > Other key points: > > It's irrelevant in trade fiction, but epub 3.x permits embedding of Javascript. Issues with print command group membership
Hi, I have a Samba print share set up, with a "print command" specified that just cats the file to /dev/ulpt0. This share is accessed by the guest Samba account, which I have set to be the 'smbguest' username. I can manually run the print command as root, and the file prints. I can manually run the print command as 'smbguest' (through sudo) and the file prints.

Question regarding Samba and security = share
I am really new to configuring and maintaining samba, and have what I belive should be a quick question. I have recently installed Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 server. I need to make a directory on the samba server accessable by a small group of people here at work. The users who will be connecting to the samba share do not have accounts on the samba server. The are coming from Windows 2K boxes

nfs, 64 / 32 bit, locking problem
Well, next problem. Because of samba isn't running on alphaserver 1200 with gentoo linux and kernel 2.6.9-ac12 i've simply exported my smbroot (on alpha, it is my fileserver) and have samba running on an intel pentium4 box, also gentoo, kernel 2.6.0-ac12. Seems to work, eccept some locking problems. smbd[9450]: [2005/02/08 17:29:51, 0] locking/posix.c:posix_fcntl_lock(657) smbd[9450]:

Samba Win2k problem
I have a samba server version 2.2.7a-8.9.0 running on RedHat 9.0. It is acting as a domain controller. I have some win2k clients logging in to this domain and mapping home shares, shared drives, etc. The network the servers are on is 1000Mb and the client networks are all 100Mb. The client networks are linked via 1000Mb uplink. The problem I'm having is that when a user copies a fair

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all, well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white flag... It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

Does automatic printer driver download from Win 2k client work?
Hi, I am playing around with automatic printer driver download to Windows 2000 clients from Samba 2.2.8a-1 which doesn't seem to work. Whenever I right-click on the printer and say "connect", it displays: The server on which the printer resides does not have the correct printer driver installed.....
