Samba-3.0.23 problem
We had to power down all servers today for electrical maintenance in the building and for some reason I began having access problems related to the valid users lists when power was restored. The dialog from the 'Samba-3.0.23 broke my network' thread seemed as if it might be related even though I had not performed any software upgrade so I tried adding the group mappings as discussed in

Adaptec 39320A woes
I'm having speed problems with the SCSI card we're using to do tape backup. It seems to be functioning in 16 bit mode and the current thinking is that perhaps it's using a legacy driver instead of the correct one. The Adaptec site has a 'driver' for RHEL5 which I've downloaded and tried to install but it seems to have a problem installing on a CentOS-5 system. [root at

Retry: Mapping AD domain users to UNIX users
I posted this last week but haven't heard anything. I'm not sure if this is because nobody knows the answer (can't believe that!) or I'm missing something obvious in the documentation and people are thinking "Read The Fine Manual". Whatever the reason, if anyone has any insights into this problem I'd be very grateful for their comments. We're using Samba 3.0.23b

File Locked
Hi, I've got a Word document on a Samba share that I can't rename, overwrite or open. Attempting to rename it gives: Cannot rename Filename: There has been a sharing violation. Attempting to open it gives: Filename.doc is locked for editing by 'another user'. This is on a NAS box so I can't say which Samba version it is. There are no temporary files in the share to show who

Windows user not in UNIX db.
I want my Windows account to interact with my Linux user account. My usernames on both machines used to be the same, but now corporate is changing our name format (oh boy!). Now that the usernames no longer sync, Samba is refusing me access to my Linux box. When I check the logs, it claims that it can't find my new Windows username in the UNIX passwddb. When I manually add my new Windows

Computing row differences in new columns
Hi I have the following columns with dates and results, sorted by subject and date. I'd like to compute the differences in dates and results for each patient, based on the previous row. Obviously the last entry for each subject should be a NA. Which would be the best way to accomplished that ? I guess questions like that have been already answered a thousand times, so I apologize for

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5 PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact prior to upgrading to Samba version

NT user name doesn't match unix username when winbindd is runnin g
Samba team, I posted the following message on May 30 to comp.protocols.smb, but no one has responded to the posting as of yet, so I thought I'd try this email list. We are testing winbind and security=domain to authenticate NT users on our UNIX box in samba (v2.2.3a). Winbind is working correctly. NT user name doesn't match unix username when winbindd is running
We are testing winbind and security=domain to authenticate NT users on our UNIX box in samba (v2.2.3a). Winbind is working correctly. Wbinfo shows users as domainname+username (we are using "+" as the separator), however, the NT usernames aren't automatically mapping to their corresponding UNIX usernames as expected. Perhaps I don't understand how this is supposed to work?

Sieve/pigeonhole rejects email addresses for valid UNIX users
Self-explanatory, I hope (note the period on the end of the username); sieve/pigeonhole does not allow you to have senders which end with a period, which means that any UNIX users with such usernames who send mail have it rejected by sieve: # useradd testuser. # su - testuser. $ mail david at example.com -s 'testing' 123 . [testuser. at levi ~]$ logout # less /var/log/maillog Aug 22

Help using system() command to execute Perl script through MSDOS
I am working on creating a program for some simulations I need to do and I want to execute a Perl script that I wrote using the system() command in R. I have spent a couple days trying to figure this out and it appears that my problem occurs when sending the perl script file path through R to MSDOS. I have tried using double backslashes, quotations, etc. Moving my files to the root directory with
