Samba local user without /etc/passwd
Hi Gionatan,
You can have user only declared into tdb at least when samba is acting as
domain controller. In that case this user become also a system user as
domain users purpose is to be system users, also used for file sharing.
Now if you have a Samba acting as file server and only file server,
retrieving its system users from winbind and /etc/passwd you can use any of
these users to add them

Rename violations.ignore.d/logcheck-pureftp
<nitpickyness>
To avoid possible confusion, shouldn't this be named logcheck-pureftpd,
or logcheck-pure-ftpd (instead of logcheck-pureftp)?
Or is there a reason (that I've missed) it's this way?

root preexec script runs twice
Hi.
I'm tesing Samba 3.0.7-a on Debian Sarge with Debian kernel 2.6.8.
I am working on auto-creation of logon scripts, & am using a root preexec
on the netlogon share for this.
In testing I have passed the user ID to the script, and have used echo to
test output. The netlogon service parameters and other info are below.
The output from the script occurs twice in the output file,

Need apache ftp help please
System = CentOS / Apache 2.0 / HTML files location = /var/www/html
Nat'd IP - ports 80, 20, 21 already opened & routed to internal ip.
I desperately need the quick & dirty solution.
I need a setup where one user can ftp from another desktop (windows) to
upload new website files. I currently have CuteFTP, but will use anything
needed at this point.
I need to try to test this today.

[LLVMdev] Recharging the batteries
Hi,
I've noticed that http://llvm.org/status/ hasn't been updated for a while,
so
I tought that some of you might find the following information interesting
and/or encouraging...
For benchmarking the stuff I'm working on I needed to compile a number
of open-source packages. The settings I used:
AS=llvm-as
lLD=llvm-ld
AR=llvm-ar
CXX=llvm-g++
CC=llvm-gcc

Help with samba in AD environment
I need some help in configuring samba on a FreeBSD 8.0 server. I've
used the following as a base. My goal is to have a samba share where I
can set permissions for Active Directory users. I don't care about
SSHing into the server using Active Directory account information.

Group member can not delete files - only dir (775) owner can
Hi there,
I have a problem I can not solve myself.
I have samba 3.0.28 installed on a Ubuntu 8.0.4 server.
Samba is a member of AD. Authentication is kerberos, user- / group ids are
handled by nis (Windows 2008 SFU / NIS Server).
My Samba config:
[global]
write list = admin,rado,@Administratoren
deny hosts = 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
client schannel = No
allow hosts = localhost,

pdb_mysql isn't working for me :-(
Hiya...
Trying to auth users against a mysql database using pdb_mysql. Using
samba3.0 from CVS, running as a PDC.
Few questions as well: In the "username column:", I'm assuming I need a
real unix user here? Can I have a whole bunch of "nt username" users
(i.e. non-unix users) in the mysql db to be auth'ed with samba, but
they're all using the same unix user?

FreeBSD 9.1 + Samba 3.6.12 : Winbind sid lookup issue
Hey Samba list.
We recently had to switch from 3.5.x to 3.6, due to the ports tree dropping
3.5
Since then, I've have had issues with the looking up users consistently. It
may work for 30 minutes, and then stop.
I finally started to run winbindd -i -d and here are some of my findings:
Environment:
OS: FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE
uname -a: FreeBSD pkg-server 9.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE #0

explorer.exe crashes on security tab access
The same thing happen if the group on a file is wheel or any other unix
group. I also now observed that this also happens to unix users that are
not mapped in idmap.ldb.
For example:
# useradd myunixuser
# touch myfile
# chown myunixuser myfile
# chgrp SAMDOM\sambauser myfile
alos crashes explorer.

home share issue: //server/homes errs, while //server/<username> works
Hello list,
I'm running a samba server in AD domain, with some AD users explicitly
mapped into local users by "username map = sambauser.map", which is a text
file.
Problem is found with explicitly mapped user, I can only access home share
by //server/<ADusername>, not //server/homes (using windows explorer). This
feels wrong because I also tried those AD users not listed in
