smb_proc_readdir_long: error=-2, breaking
Hi list,
On a share (Windows 2003 3790/5.2) mounted with smbmount v3.0.24 and
smbfs 2.6.18-5-686, suddenly I'm seeing lots of
"kernel: smb_proc_readdir_long: error=-2, breaking"
messages in syslog while, for instance, ls'ing a particular directory.
Here's the odd thing - if I do a couple of ls's quickly, the files
appear (there are 129 files and 2 subdirs). If I ls

Dear All,
We've been running samba successfully in our environment for some months.
Last week we noticed that the list command when
run from any of our linux hosts against a share on a windows host no longer
works.
The specifics.

SMBFS Problems: smb_proc_readdir_long: name=, result= -2, rcls=1, err=123
On additional note, I was able to use filler directories to circumvent the
problem. This works for me since it is archives, but wouldn't for most.
Here is an example:
No filler files:
ls -l - Returns no files
Filler file at top of the directory structure (00_SAMBA)
ls -l - Returns directories 0-D and N-Z
Filler files the top of directory structure and where D's stoped (00_SAMBA

smb_proc_readdir_long error
Hi guys/girls,
How are you ?
I'm running "Linux 2.4.22 SMP" with Samba-3.0.4 and pick up the following message in my syslog when accessing a mounted NT4 share:
kernel: smb_proc_readdir_long: name=\OLAP Services\Data\GreatPlains\*, result=-13, rcls=1, err=5
Any ideas what this is ?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

smb_proc_readdir_long - ls not showing files
Hello,
We are getting a baffling problem with a samba mounted drive on Redhat, mounted
from a windows box. We cannot always see files in the mounted directory with ls
or perl. The directory has 237 files in it. We sometimes see 197 files with
ls. Sometimes we see nothing. This can happen from one try to the next (i.e.
run ls, see the files, immediately run ls again and see nothing). We have

Strange file listing with mounted REV drive
Hi,
A client has an Iomega REV drive installed on a PC and this is used for
the off-site backups. This drive has disks left in and then that drive
on the PC is shared out.
I mount the share with
mount -t cifs //10.1.1.20/XP61REV /mnt/xp61 -o
username=user,password=password,rw
and this is mounted on to a Debian Etch / Samba 3.0.24-6 machine.
Now when I 'ls' or 'find' this

Problem when importing via tdbedit and then picking up NTConfig.POL
Hi,
Just found this out - is it a bug which I should register or is this by design?
We had been running a Samba 2.2 server for a few years with a domain called PSCT
- everybody very happy (well done guys!). Installed a new server with Samba 3
based on Debian Etch. The new server was set as the domain PSCT2 to keep things
clear.
Copied all data across to the new server.
The new server has

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux
6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT
machine and at home with a Win9x machine.
In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm
not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze
machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

cannot copy files (samba 3.0.3, kernel 2.6)
Hi everybody.
First of all: i am using samba 3.0.3 and a 2.6 kernel.
I am experiencing a strange problem. I can see, mount and use Windows
shares. I can see and mount also Apple shares (through appleshareip and
some sort of smb/cifs server on the apple side), but i can't browse them
nor copy any files.
With kernel 2.4 i couldn't browse, but i could normally copy files and

Interesting errors...
Greetings,
About 2 months ago, we decided to backup our Oracle test servers via
samba rather than nfs -- the backups were just taking too long using
nfs. No problem mounting the remote file share to the server and the
backup took about one-third of the time. Yep, worked good...and still
continues to out perform nfs hands down.
Problem is - I'm receiving errors on both of the test servers.

smbfs mounts cause hangs in kde/gnome
I'm using debian Sarge, Samba 3.0.6-3, Kernel 2.6.8
I use smbmount //server/share mymountpt -oguest which connects fine, but it
all dies (hangs) if I try to look in that mounted directory with konqueror in
kde OR nautillus in gnome.
In dmesg of the server computer I get:
smb_proc_readdir_long: error=-512, breaking
and the same but with error -13

MS-Client
Hi!
I use MS-Client for pre-Windows 95 computers to use shares on my Linux
boxes, but also to serve their disks to everyone else.
This used to work, but I gradually upgraded and problems arose.
This afternoon, I wanted to use smbclient to access a share on the
Dos-computer, it gave listings of what was there, but I couldnt retrieve
any file. Mounting didn't work either, because I still had

smbmount/kernel 2.4.2/Samba 2.0.7 - Unable to use large files/directories
Hi there.
I'm having a very odd problem with samba. I have a Mandrake 7.2 linux
distro, though I've compiled a 2.4.2 kernel for it (with samba support
compiled in - not a module), and I've also compiled Samba 2.0.7. When I
mount shares from my win98 machines, if I try to list a large directory
or open a large file, the terminal freezes. I'm able to log in another,
but if I
