smbd and winbindd refuse to start, but nmbd runs fine on Redhat 9.0
Hi, I downloaded the binaries for samba yesterday for redhat 9.0, and installed them without error. Managed to get swat up and running and configured samba, the same way I configured my other linux (slackware 10.2) box, and started samba thru swat. But when the status page reloads, it shows smbd and winbindd as not running, although it shows nmbd running. When i check the ps list, it shows

Help! - need to Start multiple samba smbd/nmbd daemons
We're trying to dual home samba onto 2 windows domains. We're created 2 separate smb.conf files each having it's own domain specific info. The only differences between them are - different workgroups - different interfaces to bind too - different socket addressees (matches the interface) - and different WINS server IPs. We are using the security = domain model. We've

Machine Upgraded & smbd/nmbd won't start
Hi all. Running 2.0.4b on a (now) solaris 2.6 box. Since the upgrade the smbd & nmbd daemons won't start. I tried starting smbd by hand, running it through truss. Here's the last few lines: getuid() = 0 [0] fstat(3, 0xEFFFF858) = 0 write(3, " [", 1) = 1 write(3, " 1 9 9 9 / 0

Hi everyone, I would like to know if it's possible to start the smbd/nmbd daemons from an other HP Unix server. The installation of Samba has been made on a RAID mounted on an other Unix server (the main one). We want to do that because whe need to reduce the work of the main server. Smbd & nmbd both refuse to start?
Hello all - I'm getting a weird error message on a custom system I'm trying to setup using SAMBA. The box is running a slightly modified 2.0.37 linux kernel to run the entire OS out of a huge (128 MB) ramdrive. This particular box will be running for years before anything should fail in it. Anyhow everything works fine so far, except neither smbd or nmbd will start with the following

Starting smbd & nmbd from xinetd ?
Hi there, Just experimenting with Samba (latest version) running on RH 7.2 Everything seems to be OK, got it running and can access shares but... smbd and nmbd have to be started manually ! ( using # /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D and then # /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D ). Any idea how I set it to start at bootup ? It doesn't show up in the services configuration under the RH

SWAT (eroneously) reports smbd/nmbd not working
hi all, I just installed samba 2.2.0 on a Digital SMP server and I can tell that administering it via SWAT is the bigest step since man walking on the moon. but... SWAT eroneously reports smbd/nmbd not working while they are working. And even more, the smbd/nmbd [start]/[restart] buttons have dissapeared. Why is that ? If we use vfork, can the smbd and nmbd work rightly?
Hi All, I has been trying to port the Samba package to uClinux. But our uClinux toolchain doesn't support the fork() call. I must replace the fork with vfork.If we use vfork, the smbd and nmbd can not work rightly. both samba-3.0.32 and samba-3.0.2a have the question. In samba/source/smbd/server.c, the function open_sockets_smbd(), creates a child process and a parent process. Both these

Help: smbd & nmbd normal states
I have just installed Fedora Core 5 with the Samba server. However only the nmbd daemon is running. I thought both smbd and nmbd should be running. On trying to start smbd with: >/sbin/service smb start the result is "starting smbd [FAILED]" Stopping smbd of course has no effect, and starting or restarting nmbd works just fine. I'm stumped! I turned SELinux and the firewall off.
