Can't join Samba PDC from Win2k
I am trying to make my Samba server act as a domain controller, but I
can't join the domain. When I go into Windows 2k and I right click the
computer, the properties button, and try to make it a part of the domain,
it asks me for a user account, and a password. I am not sure what user
account to type in here. What user account do I type in?
Below is my smb.conf file. I followed the howto from

Vista Read/Write performance
Hello.
I am setting up a smb server running debian etch for a small office.
Due to circumstances outside my control, most of the client machines are
running Windows Vista Ultimate. The shares are all set up properly,
security is set, and we're good to go.
Except that the throughput from any of the Vista machines to the server
is at best slow and at worst abysmal. After tweaking the

roaming profiles for XP RPO Vista 2000 and automounted home directorys
Background on setup
Here is some basic background of my setup I have 3 domains setup running
over a IPSEC tunnel over the Internet with one PDC BDC and some file
servers at each location all running samba (I am sorry I do not have the
version number in front of me for samba) from SUSE enterprise 10 using the
LDAP backend. There is a trust setup between all the domains and the
IPSEC tunnels is

WG: Windows vista ultimate samba 3.0.31
I found the solution:
I tried the srvmgr tool from microsoft to get connected to my samba 3
domain (from an XP client).
And this tool told me the same "There is no PDC found for your domain.
You may go on but but your rights may be
Restricted." As I logged on I saw that both my PDC and BDC where BDCs.
I stopped my BDC. Logged on to my PDC and remembering that I had also

RWinEdt and Windows Vista
Hi,
I have a new computer with Windows Vista and I am trying to use
RWinEdt, which I have always used. I am using R version 2.5.
The installation of the RWinEdt library is funny. First, it didn't
install at all. Then, I uninstalled/reinstalled both R and WinEdt,
downloaded the package again from the CRAN repositary, got some error
messages, but RWinEdt initialized. I closed R and WinEdt,

Vista laptop in Samba 3.3.4 domain suddenly trying to use roaming profiles?
Grettings, all
I have a bizarre problem on a laptop in my Samba 3.3.4 domain. This domain
includes a mixture of XP Pro and Vista Ultimate clients.
I had just completed a migration to this new domain (from a Samba 2.2.8a
domain), and all seemed happy and well - machines had rebooted and were
still active in the domain, users were logging in with no problem, shares
were working perfectly - all

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list,
I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened).
So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there?

ADSI & Vista/Aastra 350
I have ADSI working on my Aastra (Vista/Nortel) 350 phone and everything is
working fine.
However, I want the asterisk.adsi to load into the 'self-load' slot but
can't figure out what the correct FDN for doing this is. Does anyone know
the right FDN for the SL slot on these phones?
Also, does anyone have any cool/interesting ADSI scripts they wouldn't mind
sharing? I'm

Auto mount home share in Vista
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Seems the only way I can get Vista to mount a share when a user logs in
is using a netlogon script. My XP clients auto mount the home share on
login just fine, but vista won't.
Has anyone experience this with vista and if so what did you do to get
passed this?
I could use a netlogon script to rectify the issue, but since I have XP

Windows Vista Issues
This is a repost of a simple question about Windows Vista and R (with
answer), along with a heads-up on other Windows Vista issues that people may
not be aware of and that may impact R development.
1. The standard package install process fails because the user does not
have permission to write to Program Files/R/R-version/library. Apparently
the install process has already been modified to give

Desiring to set up Windows Vista and Linux Fedora Core 4
Greetings!
Tonight is unfortunately the first small bit of time I've had to even
try to get Samba configured between my Vista and my Linux FC4. (My mother
as well as my extremely limited home time dealing with important things
are my main delays.)
It's not going well. :-)
I have added hosts allow with 192.168.1 and 192.168.2. I have
experimented with a few things. I

Vista Ultimate 32-bit install - VNC woes
Hi,
I''m running Xen server based on OpenSuSE 11 (Xen version
3.2.1_16881_04-4.2). I have several Linux DomU''s that run perfect.
Now I need a temporary Vista install (for testing) so I used
''virt-manager'' to install Vista. I used LVM based setup, Vista got 4GB
of memory (at least temporary) and 2 CPU''s.
Initially things look good - I get the console

Subsetting simulation output
Does anyone understand this?
I have a long vector parlist containing values of 138 parameters in 100
simulations.
The factor parno is defined by
trys <- 100
sim <- gl(trys,138)
parno <- gl(138,1,trys*138)
I want to extract and compare results for related groups of parameters but I
get inconsistent results:
> length(parlist[parno==37:42])

Expired passwords on Solaris with PAM
I've been doing so more tests with 2.9.9p2 on Sol8. Here are my
finding so far:
When a user needs to change his password and trys to run a command in
non-interactive mode, it just succeeds without even trying to prompt the
user for a new password. Damien submitted a fix - it works for me (is it
going into CVS?).
When a user needs to change his password and trys to login in interactive

file.access() on network (mounted) drive on Windows Vista?
Hi,
I have a writable and readable file on a small network file system
(Cisco NSLU2 Unslung; non-NTFS) that I access via a mounted drive on
Windows Vista. My problem could be due to a "funny" file
system/server, but here it goes:
> pathname <- "Q:/foo.txt"
> cat(file=pathname, "Hello world!\n")
> readLines(pathname)
[1] "Hello world!"
