UNICAST cross-subnet browsing, Port 445 vs. 139, and Win2k
I have been having a heck of a time getting cross subnet browsing to work
properly. After MANY hours hunting through source and debug logs, I have
FINALLY found the source of my browsing issues.
My Samba nmdb properly becomes the LMB for my segment on a WAN. I VPN to my
servers at the home office and Samba attempts to sync with the DMB. nmbd
properly locates the DMB via WINS over the

remote subnet browsing and NT4.0SP3
Hello,
I have a samba 1.9.18p4 server running as a domain master browser on a subnet,
with some clients distributed on other subnets.
If there are only Win 95 clients on a subnet, browse sync works - but not if
there are Win NT 4.0 SP3 machines on that subnet.
Error from nmdb (at log level 3):

Browsing weird problem
Hi samba list.
We have installed two unix machines running samba 2.2.2. Also, we have a NT server with an nt domain.
Both samba servers belongs to TESTGROUP (we don't want to put samba into a nt domain). The things works fine, until we include two pc-clients into the same group. Those pcs cannot browse the network, also, they cannot see itself.
The problem was solved when we include

Browsing in AD networks
Hello,
sorry to bother you with probably another stupid question, but googl'ing
didn't help here. Can someone give me an overview of how network
browsing from windows workstations is supposed to work in AD networks?
I have recently upgraded a samba server running an NT4-style domain with
classicupgrade. The workstations are Windows 7 (with the registry fix
applied to be able to join an

Problem with network browsing
If you have 1 member server, you could enabe nmbd in that server.
Or install : llmnrd on linux and/or avahi-deamon if you dont have a member.
And make sure you can use "proxy dns" as in,
The primary DNS domain on linux should match (see in windows) CMD: ipconfig /all
The :
- primay dns suffix
- DNS Suffix search order
Then you are able to use \\hostname or \\hostname.FQ.DN.TLD

WINS server looses election irregular in a heterogeneous network
Dear Samba-Users,
I have to administer a Samba WINS Server in a heterogenous network. It's a
student hostel with about 200 mixed (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X) computers. We
have a DHCP, which delivers the WINS-Server address to the clients. I don't
have access to the clients.
The problem is, that the WINS-Server (Samba 3.0.27) looses the
Master-Browser election irregulary. I can't

Sorry, but it looks like you really do not understand AD ;-)
Netbios was a way for NT4-style domain computers to find each other, and

Problem with network browsing
A reasonable alternative is to run Christgau's excellent Web Service Discovery host daemon (wsdd) on the samba server and make sure
the Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication services are running on the Windows 10 machines.
Get wsdd from here: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd.git
You can then stop and disable the nmbd on the samba machines as it's

Problem with network browsing
SMBv1 (the anonymous thing behind network neighborhood) because of the massive
security problems it caused was decprecated. Microsoft came up with network
neighborhood and they've shut it down due to their bad implementation.
Samba, likewise, doesn't support SMBv1 by default.

Problems browsing from W98 on campus network with samba domain master
On my campus network, there's one wins server that can see every machine
on every subnet.
I want to provide access to all these computers to the W98 boxes in my
workgroup. So here's what I did:
I created my own workgroup, set myself to be the local browse master and
domain master. So now everything works properly on my linux box (rh 6.0,
samba 2.0.5a) and the W98 boxes in my workgroup

Migrating (vampire) from NT4 to samba 3.5.7
Hi,
I'm trying to prepare migration from NT4 server to samba with ldap
backend. For testing and simulating I have prepared one NT4 server, one
Centos 5.5 samba server and now I have almost working setup for
vampiring users and groups.
Using following packages:
samba3.i386 3.5.7-43.el5
samba3-cifsmount.i386 3.5.7-43.el5
samba3-client.i386 3.5.7-43.el5

different browselists on multi homed server
Scenario:
One Samba server with multiple network adapters each hooked to a
different network.
Question:
How can I configure Samba (nmdb) to show different shares when browsing
the Samba server from clients connected to the different networks?
Background:
The nmdb is always running in a single instance, doesn't matter how
often it is started.

Réf. : Re: Net rpc vampire : NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi all,
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my late answer.
Everything works fine by now !
Yes, you have to become a BDC to vampire the accounts ! This is why I was
getting an "Access denied" error :
I thought my Samba was a BDC, but I forgot to add "domain logon = Yes" in
my smb.conf, so Samba was a simple share server.
Here is the steps I followed to suck the accounts :

Disable Network Browsing
Hi,
I have a PC that is just for internet access, I don't want it to be able
to access any of the windows or samba servers on the network.. I removed
samba-client thinking this would solve the problem but the network can
still be browsed via Nautilus..
Is there a way to disable network browsing through any of the GUI
interfaces?
Thanks..

Frustrated with browsing, domains, and network logins ...
I'm trying to get cross-network browsing/domain logins working. In brief,
I am very frustrated. We thought the initial problem was a browsing
problem, but now it does not appear to be that. Even once the workstation
can see the servers, it STILL cannot perform a Domain login, although it
CAN access resources if I use the Ms Dos prompt and issue a 'net use ...'
command.

Concurrent logon problem...
Hi you all,
We are currently setting up a corporate wide file server using Samba
2.0.6 on a RedHat Linux Alpha platform. We only have Win98 clients, and
the Samba server is doing net logons (no password encryption) and master
browsing for the workgroup. The problem we have is that NMDB dies when a
logon occurs with a username which is already logged. After that, Win98
freezes when you try to log

PDC appears to be BDC in server manager
Hi all
I'm a relative newcomer to samba, having a few problems with what I
thought would be a fairly straightforward migration from an NT4 to a
Samba PDC.
Summary of what I've done so far:
* Set up samba on a second PC and configured it as BDC.
* VAMPIREd all of the accounts across to the BDC.
* Shut down original NT PDC, installed Linux + Samba on same hardware.
* Promoted second PC to
