Domain authentication failing after a period of time
I am having an unusual bit of behavior with a recently upgraded 3.0.8
installation (from 3.0.2a). I upgraded the server and retained the
secrets.tdb file. The server itself is using security = domain, and it had
been joined to the domain prior to the upgrade. Now, once I started the
new version, I couldn't log on, and would get the error "There are no
logon servers available to service

Problem with VFS audit and recycle
Is there anyone running Samba 3.0.X on Solaris 8 that has VFS working? I
am dying to know if this is a problem with my setup or if there is
something else going on. If you do have it working, please let me know
which module. Thanks.

printing issues - lprng
Hi,
I am running samba and lprng for 4 hp laserjets. Sometimes a
samba print job goes to the wrong printer. Normally everything works just
fine. Shown below is the lprng acct log file enries for the concerned print
job. Please notice that the print job was supposed to go to hp4050-mail,
but ended up in hp8100. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks

Samba disappearing from WINS
We are running samba 2.0.4b to provide corporate print services.
Everything with regards to printing is working like a charm. However,
twice in the past two weeks, some of our Samba servers have disappeared
from the WINS servers. The WINS servers are NT servers running 4.0SP5.
The strangest part was that in one occurrence, it was the lone samba
server at one location, but in the other

Problem with VFS audit and recycle (fwd)
This problem continues under 3.0.4 on Solaris 8 - attempting to use the
"vfs object" parameter in a share prevents access to the share and results
in the following in the log files:

Patch for "last" providing incorrect information on Solaris 8
I have put together a simple set of diffs that corrects the problem
described by Steven Fishback <sfishback at interpath.net> on 10-30 on this
list regarding incorrect information reported by last on Solaris. The
patches merely pass along the username in the utmpx record for a logout.
Is there any reason why this would be a problem with other OSes? If not,
maybe this could be rolled into the

Memory leak in 2.0.7?
I have been experiencing a problem here after having upgraded last week
to 2.0.7 (from 2.0.4b) on Solaris 2.6. The smbd processes are growing in
size until they are taking over the system. I just had to stop and start
samba on a system that had smbd processes of 26 M, 24 M of which was
resident in memory for most of the processes. After stopping and
starting again, the processes are back down in

Login script
Is there a file I can place in the netlogin directory (or anywhere else
for that matter) that will represnet a logon script? I want to have my
workstations auto-mount particular shares on the samba server, without the
user having to make the mount. This way when I add new users, the shares
are automatically present.
If there is a script I can place somwehre, please tell me what it's name

Printer shares question
Hi,
I checked the archives, but couldn't find this question:
I have two printers set up on my RedHat Linux 6.1 box, called lp0 and lp1 (original, huh?). Anyway, I want both of these printers to be visible
and browsable on the network. I have the following relevant lines in my smb.conf file:
printcap name = /etc/printcap
load printers = yes

File Permissions
I have been noticing an issue with file permissions and curious as to your thoughts on this.
In the one directory the files started as...
...a 777 file was users[100] and root...now they are gc[1002] and fred_smith [1005], but the permissions changed to 764. I have a mask as 775, but this does not seem to be the case???
Here is my smb.conf...curious as to what I may have wrong on this???

Where does the printcommand go then?

EOL in stderr of ssh - Linux
Hello everyone,
recently I've found something I consider a bug.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that Linux' EOL is 0x0A.
Imagine my surprise when I saw that all messages that are being output
on to the stderr (on any Linux I've tested - Fedora and Ubuntu) are
terminated with 0x0D, 0x0A.
Maybe that's standard behaviour of all stderr messages in all Linux

A question about OpenSSH_3.4p1 on Solaris 8
Hi, I'm doing test with OpenSSH. The question I have
is when I issue "ssh -l test1 localhost", there are
two additional "sshd" daemons spawned - there should
be only one. I don't know why. Appreciate if anybody
can give me some clue. Please make sure to include my
address since I'm not in the list yet. Thanks in
advance.

Loosing print jobs
Hello,
We are having a problem printing from winnt machines to a samba printer
server.
The software we use uses the same name for most things that are printed,
also it sends some information to the printer before it has compiled the
report, resulting in a delay between the file being created and the job
starting to spool.
It seems that what is happening is that somebody starts to print, the file

problem with netbios aliases (nmbd restart solves it)
Hi,
I'm running samba 2.0.5a under Solaris 2.7 and am seeing a problem
where the netbios alias for our print server sometimes becomes
unavailable. It is still visible in Network Neighbourhood, but
double-clicking comes back with "<blah> could not be found on the
network". However, I can connect to the machine OK, by
double-clicking on its real name, rather than its alias.
