Slow browsing
Hi,
I have recently set up an old machine as a linux fileserver (Intel 815E
board with 512MB ram and PIII 800mhz). I am running the latest Fedora Core 5
with the version of samba 3 that ships with that and am exposing a single
share for my software raid (4x400gb PATA seagate drives, running from two
siig ATA cards so each drive has its own channel)
I also have a buffalo 1.0tb terastation

file_mode and dir_mode options ignored
Hi there. I'm using samba3x-3.5.4-0.83.el5_7.2 on CentOS release 5.7 x86_64 to mount a Terastation filesystem. The "file_mode" and "dir_mode" options to mount.cifs seem to be ignored; I systematically get a "drwxrwxrwx" permission, no matter what values I provide for these options:
# mount.cifs //terastation/Backup /bkp/BackupPC/ -o

DC Upgrade from 4.1.7 to 4.6.7
I did a similar DC upgrade from 4.1.13 to 4.6.6(like your option 1,
upgrade on existing AD servers, I have two, first upgrade on none-FSMO).
and I don't have any issues with the DC upgrade itself.
But be careful with your member servers. After the upgrade, I have to
change some default values on file servers:
1. samba 3.5.10 member server(rpm from CentOS 6.2) lost connection to

Securely backing up Linux machines to NAS?
I have been tasked with having a Buffalo Terastation Pro 2 NAS box,
likely to be connected to a Linux box via samba, be the storage device
to back up mostly Ubuntu and Centos systems. ?The trick is, the
machines to be backed up need to do so in an automated fashion and
make a secure, encrypted connection to my Linux box hosting the NAS.
The NAS does have SSL enabled for web admin access, though

Previous versions of samba or how to disable NTML2 authentication
If I run apt-get install samba, this only seems to retrieve the latest version
of samba.
How do I retrieve an earlier version of samba?
Alternatively, how do I disable NTMLv2 on my Linux PC?
The settings in the link below work for Windows 7 and I can access my
Terastation again from Windows 7, but how do I do this on a Linux PC
(Ubuntu 14.04)?

Samba session setup STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I have two Linux 2.6 based devices that cannot talk properly to each other
on a Samba session setup.
(those two devices are Buffalo Terastation Pro II rackmount TS-RHTGL/R5 F/W
1.33 and Request Media Server F Series, v5.3.1.3478)
Basically, the NAS provides with a share that Request application uses to
store media content. The problem we experience is that the NAS yet refuses a
SMB client, while

Reading a file being written to
Can you read from a file that is currently being written to in an Samba environment?
I tried it on a Buffalo Terastation and a Windows NT File server and got the message "file in use" every time.
Imagine recording a TV show from 8pm to 9pm onto an Samba server. If I come home at 8:15, can I start watching it immediately, or do I have to wait until 9:00?

- this DC is also a Print Server
- about 400 PC workstations (mainly win7 Pro / win10 Pro and some XP
Pro), and about 300 users
- several Synology NAS file servers

ZFS for my home RAID? Or Linux Software RAID?
Hello All,
I build a new Storage Server to backup my data, keep archives of client files, etc I recently had a near loss of important items.
So I built a 16 SATA bay enclosure (16 hot swappable + 3 internal) enclosure, 2 x 3Ware 8 port RAID cards, 8gb RAM, dual AMD Opertron.
I have a 1tb boot drive and I put in 8 x 1.5tb Seagate 7200 drives. In the future I want to fill the other 8 SATA bays

3.0.23d - call_nt_transact_ioctl(0x90078): Currently not implemented
All,
Since upgrading to 3.0.23d on several linux servers, I'm seeing the following error repeatedly in my logs:
Jan 2 15:05:49 boothost smbd[27935]: [2007/01/02 15:05:49, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:call_nt_transact_ioctl(2332)

Aside from the obvious, what does this error mean? I've googled for

weird kerberos enctype error on otherwise working 3.0.23d install
I have a Samba-3.0.23d installed on a CentOS4.4 server that cannot be
connected to from other machines in the same W2K3 ADS. The server was
added to the ADS successfully via "kinit admin@REALM" and "net ads
testjoin" works just fine. The clocks are NTP-synced and no clock slew
errors are to be seen.
If WinXP/Win2K3 clients connect using \\ip.address\ it works fine, but

CIFS, Samba 3.0.23d and file locking
Mrs.;
I have a 16-bits Cobol program running at Novell 5.1.
I'm migrating the whole network (around 150 terminais) to Linux + LTS
processing DOSEMU into cluster and making a storage server just for data.
My surprise last week was that the smbfs client for Linux doesn't support
the file locking, after googling, found that a solution would be to use
CIFS instead SMB and upgrading the

Samba 3.0.23d & /etc/krb5.keytab
I'm new to Kerberos. I don't understand how Samba uses the system
keytab (/etc/krb5.keytab) when "use kerberos keytab = true".
Does Samba use service specific tickets?
What tickets does Samba add?
Do I need a cron job to keep them fresh or does Winbind take care of it?
Sorry if these are elementary questions, but the Samba HOWTO didn't help
me understand Samba's

Hi list,
Im using Samba 3.0.23d on a Debian Etch box.

wbinfo -u returns correct domain users
wbinfo -g returns correct domain groups
getent passwd returns all users. I.e

getent group returns correctly. .I.e
KIC\xcello:x:10016:KIC\mats
Executing chown KIC\\kicass test.txt works.
