MSDFS extensions
Hello, I'm setting up MSDFS feature in samba-2.2.0-alpha3. It works very great! But I'm would wish an extension to the MSDFS functionality: Is it possible to implement a feature, so I could group junction points within directories? E.g.: [pub] path = /export/publicsmb msdfs root = yes PUB | +- dir1 <- directory manually created in /export/publicsmb | | |

msdfs not working on netbios aliases?
I encountered strange behaviour of "msdfs" when using together with "netbios aliases". E.g I have in smb.conf: [global] netbios name = server netbios aliases = server-oldname .... host msdfs = Yes [share1] path = /var/samba/share1 [share2] msdfs root = Yes msdfs proxy = \penguin\share2 .... From a windows (XP) machine I can now see: \\server\share1 and

rsync 3.0.9 hangs when syncing from NFSv3 share - possible to retry after timeout?
Hello, I'm using rsync 3.0.9 to backup several NFS shares from a fileserver, mounted over NFSv3, to a local RAID on a backup server. Both servers are running Ubuntu 12.04 server LTS. The fileserver's filesystem is ext4. The NFS shares are mounted on the backup server as follows: fileserver:/mnt/storage/share1 /mnt/share1 type nfs (ro,tcp,bg,soft,intr,addr=192.168.1.1)

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
Hi all, I've encountered a problem in using Samba 3.0.4. I've got a Red Hat 7.3 box (johnboy) running as a domain controller, and we've got symlinks to a bunch of NFS mounts on a different machine (pawalton) to give people the necessary file access using only one SMB mount. For example, the SMB share is under /smbfiles in the root directory of the Samba server. Within /smbfiles,

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
After receiving requests to post answers to this query, I figured I'd resubscribe to let people know that there is, in fact, a way around this. When I upgraded johnboy to Linux kernel version 2.6.10, all the formerly problematic symlinks worked. Apparently, the 2.6.10 kernel fixed some issues in the smbfs code relating to symlinks (thanks to Ted McManus for pointing this out to me). So if

msdfs proxy and subfolders
Hello, everyone, I'm seeing some inconsistent behavior across SMB clients when configuring shares using the "msdfs proxy" parameter, and was hoping to get some advice from the community on this. My issue is that various SMB clients seem to behave differently when this parameter is pointed as a path that includes a sub-folder under the root share. So, given the following share

Errors for shares since 4.12.0
Hi, I tried samba 4.12.0 on our file server which is a domain member and exporting some shares. We're getting some strange errors on some shares since the update. Right after starting or restarting smbd everything is fine. After short while (seconds or a few minutes) users are getting errors when trying to access the shares, e.q. "Invalid Handle Error", "An unexpected

Join Domain Problem?
List, I'm having trouble accessing shares, and I'm getting conflicting indications on whether I've successfully joined the domain with my PC and Samba server (which may bear on the share problem). I really could use some help; I've not been able to recognize anything in the docs or via Google that helps. I'm running SUSE 9.3 and Samba 3.0.21a, and I'm trying to
