successor of 'printer admin'
Hello list
last week we upgraded a 2.2 samba installation to the latest
3.024 release (with CUPS as printing backend).
till now we granted some users the right to cancel printer
queues from others with 'printer admin = printadmins' in smb.conf.
I read through the changes-list and realized that 'printer admin'
is now deprecated.
I read through the Samba-book, the Howto-sections

WERR_ACCESS_DENIED trying to set printer driver in samba-3.0.23d
I am having problems getting Pont and Print to work with
samba-3.0.23d, cups and ldap.
I used an XP box to install the windows drivers on the samba server by
adding the drivers in the "Printers and Faxes" section (using the
server properties tab) for the samba server. This part worked fine but
when I want to associate the driver to the printer I get an access

Installation and management of printer drivers from windows 7 clients (printers and faxes missing!)
Hello there.
I have a network with 35 new Windows 7 (64 bit) PCs that should
connect to printers via a cups/samba server. I want them to use their
own windows drivers, and I want these to be installed automatically
from print$ when they first connect.
I'm trying to install the drivers from the clients as described here:

when working in the editor R crashes regularly. no other program ever crashes.
one quite reliable way to crash it is by marking some code and then pressing the
"find" command. I have had this problem with other R versions before. I have the
feeling the editor is the problem. Another

Howto setup printing with Windows XP Clients, Cups and samba..
Hi there,
slowly but sure I'm getting absolutely insane with the printer setup on
a Samba PDC. I got Cups to work. It works like a charm if someone
installs a printer via the cups interface. It also prints in a good
quality. On Samba side I even have those "Printers and fax devices" in
the visible shares. And if i install CUPS6 Drivers manual on the target
system i can even print on

printer drivers - Add Printer Wizard disabled
I'm following along in the guide, trying to make printer drivers
available from Samba. But when I right-click on a printer in Windows
XP and select the "properties" tab, it's disabled:

So how do I enable this so the client can upload the drivers? So far I
have tried:

No Color, Brothers Printer, Samba/CUPS
Did you add that user to the "domain admins" or an other group.
If an other group, did you set the SePrivileges for that group so its allowed to edit the registry. The "domain admins" group for me has all privileges.
Just tried it out, and no problem here with user Administrator.

printer "Advanced tab" grayed
Hello,
I would like to upload windows printer driver to my Samba through the
printer "Advanced tab" as described in that doc
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#id2582657
but this tab is totally grayed. I can imagine it's a permission issue
but I'm not sure at all.
Any idea,

access denied on printer driver upload
Hi,
I'm trying to upload printer drivers to my jessie samba 4.1.17 print
server, but I'm getting: "Failed to add driver. Access denied", and I
don't understand why.
The domain join is OK (verified with net ads testjoin) and on the DC I
have given the SePrintOperatorPrivilege to the Domain Admins group, of
which I am a member:

Fw: printer admin option replacement on stand alone (not domain) print server running version 3.0.25
Thanks to those who responded to my original question.
I ran this command and it accepted it after I provided the root password.
# net rpc rights grant 'vlkidder' SePrintOperatorPrivilege
Checked to see if 'vlkidder' had printer admin privilege and it seems ok.
# net rpc rights list accounts

Online-UPS Xanto support status?
Hello there. I use Online Xanto ups'es so I did some googling for
their support in nut. Turns out that...
- networkupstools.org talks about an 'optiups' driver in the
development version (http://www.networkupstools.org/compat/dev.html -
by the way, the web page says 'stable' in the title and headings just
like the actual stable one)
- Andreas Thienemann seems to have a

printer drivers from windows 7 MMC?
I found a fancy, easy (seeming) way to add printer drivers in windows 7
since the old methods don't seem to work anymore.
if you run mmc, you can add a snapin called print management, which
enables you to manage various things (drivers, forms, ports, and
printers to be most important). Problem is, I can't figure out how to
use the "Drivers" method to add drivers. I get a

Problem with adding printer drivers in Windows XP
I know this question has been asked quite a few times from the archive,
but nothing in the previous posts seems to help my setup. I currently
have samba 3.0.21c running on Slackware with CUPS as the printing
conduit. It's setup as a PDC as can be seen from the smb.conf file
below. I cannot, no matter what I've tried, get the server to allow me
to add printer drivers to a printer
