Newbie HLM with lme4 questions
Dear R listers, I know I'm breaking the rules by asking a "homework" related question-- I hope you'll forgive me. I am a social psychology graduate student, and the only one in my department who uses R. I successfully completed my multiple regression and structural equation modeling courses using R (John Fox's car and sem packages were a big help, as was his book).

cyrus-imapd, sendmail and delivering plus address formats
CentOS-4.8 cyrus-imapd-2.2.12-10 sendmail-8.13.1-3.3 I have a mail hub which uses cyrus-imap with sendmail It has worked well for us on this and prior hosts going back to 1995. And, I do not have a problem with the current setup. What I would like to do however, is to deliver plus-formatted e-mail addresses directly to users subfolders in their mailbox tree. Such addresses take the form

Aggregate Values for All Levels of a Factor
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I'm a novice user trying to figure out how to retain NA aggregate values. For example, given a data frame with data for 3 of the 4 possible factor colors("orange" is omitted from the data frame), I want to calculate the average height by color, but I'd like to retain the knowledge that "orange" is a possible factor,

Link prediction in social network with R
Dear R users I'm a novice user of R and have absolutely no prior knowledge of social network analysis, so apologies if my question is trivial. I've spent alot of time trying to solve this on my own but I really can't so hope someone here can help me out. Cheers! The dataset: I'm trying to predict the existance of links (True or False) in a test set using a training set. Both

the case of building R snapshot without svn nor network connection.
The decision to actively discourage non-subsersion usage of snapshot build is already made (r62183). So I am just here to register a differing opinion. - it is not about subversion vs other-version-control-tools. There are two parts of R's dev build process which requires an active network connection - tools/rsync-recommended and capturing `svn info` into R's headers. The former can be

W95 speed issue
Hello all, I've got a W95 box connected via crossover to a 2.2.12 RH 6.0 linux box, running 2.0.3 samba. Writes to samba from Win explorer are around 450 K/sec. Reads from samba to Windows using Explorer are around 8 K/sec. Using the smb version of tcpdump, I see between a .200 and .220 second lag between packets. smbd is nowhere near the top of my "top" list output in linux. Is

Deprecation of scp protocol and improving sftp client
It seems that there are a few camps here: * The scp power users - this camp believes that scp supporting backtick notation is fine and that running arbitrary commands is a perfectly fine thing to do. * The restricted shell users - this camp believes that scp supporting backtick may not be the best, and there are various restricted shells which can prevent this. Power users may belong to this

We really need more community involvement with GSoC
Note : I do not mean to compare or criticize any organization. This is based on my experience. Dear Community, I have subscribed llvm-dev list for last 6 months and I follow most of the thread when it makes sense to me. I have observed that some times some mails do not get any kind of response. Mostly novice students and some one trying to use LLVM in the research have many questions. I respect

File deleted while locked
Hi, I'm running Samba 4.0.0 on a RHEL 6.4 machine and have created a simple share with all the default configuration options. I've also created an application (running on the RHEL box) that does the following: - detects a file appearing in the share (using Inotify looking for the IN_CLOSE_WRITE event) - open and fcntl lock the file - do some processing - move the file to somewhere else

I created the subscriptions through Thunderbird, but now it won't let me change them. dovecot responds with sutff like this when I sniff

"Safe" way to automatically install required packages...
R-helpers: I'm working on an r-package that I want to make as easy-to-use as possible for a novice R-user, which includes automatically installing required packages. I, myself, am a novice R-packager, so the solution I came up with was to embed: print("Loading required packages...") if (!require("reshape")) { install.packages("reshape") } if

ext3 .journal location?
Forgive my novice question, but I am a new student of Linux working on presenting the ext3 journaling filesystem to my class. I seek any advice on how to visibly demonstrate (including a purposeful crash of a Linux box) the benefits of ext3 over ext2. I am not worthy to lick the bootstraps of this group, but I beg for any help! The problem I am having extends to even locating the .journal file

We really need more community involvement with GSoC
I think the idea of dedicated "newbie hour - no question is too basic" drop in sessions is fantastic. +1 for that. [LLVMdev] call for suggestions
Hi, Dear LLVMers I just touch llvm source code for several days, and I didn't know the interfaces of the analysises and transformations of LLVM. For exampe, how to backtrace CFG, and whether exits a backtracking interator to do such work? For a novice, I also seek for suggestions about how to become familiar with LLVM interfaces as soon as possible. Now I have a plan to write a pass based on

About your application's environment URL not found
Hi I am a newbie (which you probably guessed from the subject) and have just installed ruby 1.8.7, rails 2.3.5 and apache 2.2.12 on ubuntu 9.10. I have created a rails app and edited my apache config as shown below. The Rails "Welcome aboard" page displays, but when I click on "About your application''s environment" I get "Not Found The requested URL

We really need more community involvement with GSoC
I would like to insist more to use slack.com due to persistent storage of message it can be useful to create 'Minutes of Meeting' kind of thing and later on shared on mailing list so that all community can be aware of that, when some serious discussion has happened during 'office hours'. *Vivek Pandya* On Sun, Mar 20, 2016 at 1:53 AM, Chandler Carruth <chandlerc at
