Samba3, LDAP and FreeBSD 4.8 : need for NSS ?
Hi, I found your posting below... I am in a very similar situation and just want to understand what this means a little better. I have compiled openldap and samba on a netbsd box... Not sure if your aware, but nsswitch on netbsd is not modular, and ldap is not an option for the name service backend. (freebsd and linux are not options since its not an x86 box I'm using) Anyway, my ldap

samba on SLES 10: binding problem
Greets, samba-users, I try to find a solution for the following situation: We run samba on a SLES10 SP3 server (32bit). All the SLES-updates are in ... The server started to show problems with CUPS, cupsd just stopped working out of the blue and had to be restarted. No specific errors were logged. I wrote a small script to watchdog that daemon and restart it (people want to print ...) while

CONFIG_HUGETLB_PAGE in sles 10 domU?
We''re setting up a sles10 sp3 domU that needs hugepage support according to Oracle. Everything appears to be installed to support it except for the kernel module. The current config shows: # CONFIG_HUGETLB_PAGE is not set If I try to reconfigure the kernel I can''t find anything in the config for huge page support under: File Systems ---> Pseudo File Systems ---> I also

"smbd: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Can't contact LDAP server" and Samba shares are dropped
List, I am encountering some really strange behaviour with Samba 3.0.20 and OpenLDAP 2.2.28. Everything in terms of PAM and NSS has been working correctly for a long time and have not been changed in months. This week it has started playing up, with NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE type errors. The local ldap server is replicated from a master. In syslog, I see things like Jun 16 16:06:14 s-sophia smbd:

[PATCH 2/2][linux-2.6.18-xen][PV-on-HVM] Fix compile errors for RHEL/SLES

SLES kernel update
Hello CFS, I was wondering if the new SLES10 kernel will be part of the 1.6.4 release. It appears to be tracked by: https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13874 As this contains a major security fix (privilege escalation), it is a mandatory upgrade in many places and it would be nice to not have to roll our own kernel. Thanks, Kit

domU''s on SLES 10.0b3 crashing dom0
Hi all, I installed SLES 10.0b3 with XEN on some test-systems and created a SLES 10.0b3-image for use with domU''s. The installation and booting of this domU was no problem, but on some systems the host dom0 restarts if I generate some IP-traffic from the guest. This happens on an old AMD Athlon 1,3GHz, an old Intel P3 and an Intel desktop with P4 HT/VT/EM64T but not on an Intel

OpenSUSE 11.1 with OpenLDAP => some surprises (ldap.conf, nss-ldap.conf, nsswitch.conf)
Hi, this has nothing directly to do with samba, but there might be some people who try to use samba with (Open)LDAP on OpenSUSE 11.1 like me. Between 10.2 and 11.1 the nss_ldap configuration has changed a bit. The file which configures the access to ldap is now /etc/nss-ldap.conf and seems to have the identical layout as the former /etc/ldap.conf. Also needed is the "nslcd"

Multiple samba servers with LDAP
I was wondering what the best practice is for setting up several SAMBA servers in a SAMBA domain all on the same LAN. Here is what I am looking at PDC: LDAP, Samba, nss_ldap, pam_ldap Member1: Samba, nss_ldap, pam_ldap Member2: Samba, nss_ldap, pam_ldap Member . . . . Should I set the member servers up with: Security = domain and join the severs with net rpc join or, whould it be better to set

Samba mixing Domain & Server name
Hello, I have a SLES10 64bit machine running samba 3.5.12. i have configured a domain (TASC), and set the servers netbios name to TUX. Samba is using the tdbsam backend. Now I have add machines to the domain, and users can logon using their domain accounts TASC\user. However, if the network is disconnected, in the case of laptop users going offsite, they cannot logon anymore. I have now

Samba 3, SLES 9 and ldap
Hi all, I am using Chapter 6 of the Samba by Example series from the web site to set up our ldap server. When I issue the command "net getlocalsid" I receive the following error: lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_search_suffix(1159) smbldap_search_suffix: Problem during the LDAP search: (No such object) SID for domain SLES9T is: S-1-5-21-1056785705-3799760564-261985621 Based on some google

sles10: installing module-binaries: "error: Failed dependencies: ksym(panic) .."
Hi, After some hard trying to use lustre on our debian servers with an up2date kernel I decided to buy sles10 to make everything more comftable: I installed (rpm -i) the new kernelbinaries from 1.6.2/sles10-i686 to a sles10 test box (AMD64). When i try to install the modules form 1.6.2/sles10-i686 it says : sles2:/usr/src/lustre # rpm -i

After using google allot :-)

Mysterious new problem: nss_ldap: could not soft reconnect to LDAP server
Suddenly as of this morning, none of my users can authenticate to samba because nss_ldap is producing cryptic errors. Nothing has changed on either the LDAP server or the Samba server. Looks like this in /var/log/messages: Aug 11 11:19:29 edgar smbd[8394]: nss_ldap: could not soft reconnect to LDAP server - Server is unavailable Yet, the LDAP server IS available, and happily chirping away

Samba3, LDAP and FreeBSD 4.8 : need for NSS ?
Hi all, another French guy learning, don't bash me too hard... ;-) In fact, I'm in need of a confirmation : I'm on the way to create a Samba3+LDAP (new schemas) PDC server (no migration from NT4 nor 2K, only from an old Samba 2.0 with security=user using /etc/passwd, ie. no encrypt password). This Samba3 should be hosted on a FreeBSD 4.8 (ie. pam_ldap can work, I tested it today, but

Multiple Clients, Winbind and idmap in LDAP, documentation incorrect?
Hi! I have a setup with several Linux machines running samba-3.0.22-10.1.17 (from SuSE 10 OSS), authenticating against an AD. Since one of the machines is exporting an NFS share mounted by the rest of the machines, I need SID <-> uid/gid mapping to be shared between all Linux machines, which led me into using an OpenLDAP server as idmap backend. My smb.conf is found at the end of this mail.

Puppet on SLES
I currently manage approximately 150 hosts with a handful of ZLM policies, but I''ve had one too many policies lost by the management server to keep using this solution. I''m wondering if anyone has any experiences (good or bad) they''d be willing to share specific to using Puppet with SLES (9 and 10). What experiences have you had with package management tools? Would

Problem creating root ldap user in SLES9
Hello, I am running Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9, and I am trying to get Samba to authenticate using LDAP. I am using the YaST system tool to configure the LDAP server, LDAP client, and SAMBA. The issue I am having is that after I configure the Samba server to use the LDAP backend it prompts me for a password creation for the root user. This root user will be added to the LDAP

Struggling to define multiple yum/rug repositories
My head hurts from trying to figure this out for the past several hours . . . I want to determine what provider to use based on a fact (thanks for the suse version fact btw) but I ain''t gettin it: What''s wrong? Am I going down the completely wrong path? Is there a better way? # suse-yum.pp case $suse_repo_name { #sled10-i586: {Package{ provider => rug}} sled10-i586:
