Floating VIP...
Hi,
right now I am using only one external server as a gateway for the internal servers.
I would like to enable a fail-over on a second server.
To implement the floating VIP, should I use heartbeat+pacemaker?
Or is there something more "lightweight"?
Basically, I just need server2 up the VIP when server1 is down, and server2 down the VIP when server1 is back up (or server 1 does not up

What Happened to my SAMBA? Permissions Issue
OK. Everything is going great for 4 years on my FC3 Samba Version 3.0.3-5.
Now all of a sudden, when someone opens a Word/Excel file on a Samba share, it changes the user Owner to that user as well as modifies the permissions to r-x and leaves the group/permission bits/owner setting alone.
I have the root directories for all shares with the u and g sticky bits set on, but it is not enforcing

samba and failover (drbd + heartbeat)
Hi,
I've setup two server A + B (debian etch) with drbd + heartbeat in
active/passive mode. If the primary server A fails, the shared
storage is mounted on B, the virtual ip A-vip moves to the new primary
B and samba is started by heartbeat. This works well, but I'm not sure
which samba files should be identical on both server. Both have a
dedicated machine account at the moment.

Load balanced VIP
Hello everyone!
I am working on implementing my first Gluster/Ganesha NFS setup and I am flowing this guide: http://blog.gluster.org/2015/10/linux-scale-out-nfsv4-using-nfs-ganesha-and-glusterfs-one-step-at-a-time
Everything is working fine. I've got Gluster and Ganesha NFS working and I have VIPs on each node and it is failing over fine, if a little slowly. However, the VIPs don't

Dashboard parameters to control VIPs?
Some of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers in our environment
sometimes get assigned virtual IP addresses (eth0:1, eth0:2, etc).
Puppet Dashboard''s parameters seem like an ideal way to define and
provision virtual IPs on these servers. One could create a "vip1"
parameter on a node, and define a value of the IP address to use for
that vip. A manifest could then be written to

Active/Passive Samba Cluster for Shared NFS Backend
Hello,
I am working on setting up an Active/Passive Samba cluster on Ubuntu 14.04
using Samba 4.1.6. Samba will be sharing an NFS mount so that it can be
accessible to CIFS clients. Thus, the server setup is as follows:
-- cifs0 --

Recommendations
We have two virtual machines on ESX 3 running CentOS 4.3 and we'd like
to turn them into some sort of highly available nfs file server.
Currently, I am familiar with DRBD and RHCS but I was curious what
others might recommend in such a situation.
I'm not sure how easily we could use RHCS in such a situation because we
don't really have the advantage of shared storage in this setup.

High availability of Dovecot
Hi, list,
I'm going to deploy postfix + dovecot + CephFS( as Mail Storage).
Basically I want to use two servers for them, which is kind of HA.
My idea is that using keepalived or Pacemaker to host a VIP, which
could fail over the other server once one is down. And I'll use Haproxy or
Nginx to schedule connections to one of those server based on source IP(
Session stickiness),

Policy routing question
Hi,
I have a testing multihome setup, with the default gateway being one of
the links and using policy routing to honor requests for a specific
link. Everything works as expected when I request a specific IP to bind
to. But if I request a specific interface things fall apart in ways that
I can not explain:

pull a call from a queue
We have a queue monitoring application running so we can see the caller
ID of callers in a queue. If we see a VIP in the queue, is there any
method to force that call to be first in line? If there's a softphone,
or queue managing application already written that does this, I'd love
to know.

tinc with ha firewall
Hi, I have HA firewalls configuration (keepalived) on one site. Each firewall has its own IP and a Virtual IP (VIP) that keepalived activate on one of the firewall (active/passive HA configuration).
I think I can set all two firewalls with same configuration, generating key pairs on one firewall and copying that to the second, so the remote host can see always one of the other firewall as the

What does Solr index do and how to handle its high avaliablity?
Hi, guys,
Can you give me an example of solr usage in dovecot? As far as I know,
you can search email easily by MUA like outlook, so which role does solr
play?
And based on https://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2019-April/115575.html
I'm going to use an VIP to host 2 mail servers. Currently, it works in fail
over and fail back test except solr index, so how to resolve this?
Is it

anyone care to point me in the right direction? LVS
i'm trying to setup LVS, and tried both the lvs-dr and the lvs-nat,

I'm hoping people here can answer a few questions that might help and
shed light onto the situation?
#1 with regards to the Real Servers, is there anything that needs to
be configured other that the http service? I ask this, because I
suspect yes, and it has to do with what type of LVS you

Question: contention with blackberry
My production imap is currently UWIMAP with mbox.. One of the problems
commonly observed is mailbox lock loss, which happens when:
a) a VIP has multiple secretaries accessing a single mailbox (actually,
they are professional enough to have figured the realities of
conflicting access and rarely have a problem),
b) somebody leaving their machine on at home and coming in and firing up
their work
