Problem with duplicated groups?
Hello, i have some problems migrating a Windows 2000 PDC to a Debian GNU/Linux Samba Server, i want to migrate it to a LDAP backend.. but as i'm kind of newbie with ldap and samba migration stuff, i preffered to migrate it to tdbsam first and try it for a while, if everything works fine, then switch to a ldap backend. The problem is that Essential Windows Groups are automatically created, so

smbd hangs when printing.
I have a Samba 3.0.1 where I have 2 printers connected. A Canon LBP4+ and a HP OfficeJet G85. When I'm printing to the canon, no problem, it works like a charm, but when I try to print to the HP printer the smbd service hangs and the only way to stop it are with a kill -9 There are no difference between the 2 printers setup exept the printer driver on the windows machine, and ofcouse the

Problem authenticating users from openldap + samba
Hello, I have a Debian Squeeze server and want to configure Samba + OpenLDAP on it. Following some documentation I've found over Internet, I see that I must include the "samba schema" in OpenLDAP but apart from this, I've installed on the same server a software called "gosa" and it has a samba schema called "samba3.schema" which I don't know if

share write access
Hi, I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition: ## Section - [shareA] [shareA] path = /tmp/shareA writelist = user1 and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

Phantom workgroup
I have a Samba 3.0.4 server configured as a PDC. NetBIOS name of the server is "SERVER"; name of the workgroup is "AEC". Problem is that there's now a phantom workgroup called "SERVER" when I try to browse the network. Since there's no clients configured in this workgroup, any attempts to browse this workgroup fail. When I attempt to use User Manager for

Server Manager - Add Share Problem ... it won't :-(
Hi, I'm currently investigating implementing a Linux-Samba (RedHat 7.2 and Samba 2.2.3a) based domain solution. Whilst determining how best to administer a Samba server I started using Server Manager for domains which I understand should allow the creation of shares. Unfortunately this doesn't appear to work for me. I've included the following lines in the smb.conf file and copied

BUILTIN-Groups break winbind_idmap
Hello, i want to migrate from samba 3.2.6-37 (sernet-built on sles9) to 3.3.12-25 (sernet-built on debian lenny). It's a domain member server in an w2k3 ad with all company files on it. I migrated the smb.conf and moved the winbindd_idmap.tdb to the lenny server. The winbind idmap options are still the same with tdb as idmap backend and don't conflict with entries of /etc/group and

Server name appears as domain name
I've got a Samba 3.0.4 server running on RedHat 8.0 as a PDC. It's the only domain controller on the network, and the only WINS server on the network. The problem is, when I browse the network neighborhood, I see the NetBIOS name of the server ("SERVER") appear as a workgroup/domain (though there are no hosts listed in this phantom domain). It also appears as a computer under

Winbind Kerberos Problem? - Getting Wrong User SID
I am having trouble getting users connected to shares after setting ACL permissions on the share (removing the Everyone group and adding specific users). I have no problem with wbinfo, getent, or net join commands. I can also kinit a user and use smbclient -k to connect to windows shares from the samba server. I have removed ncsd from the system to make sure it can't run. BTW, the user can

InterDomain Trust Issue; Active directory domain does not return users and groups
I have created a two way Interdomain Trust between a Samba 3.21 Domain and a Windows 2003 Server Domain. I am able to log into the Active Directory domain with my Samba users and I am able to access shares set up in the AD Domain. However, when I attempt to log into the samba domain with a user from the Windows 2003 domain, I get an error saying the username/password is not correct.  From the

Hello list readers, After setting up a Samba PDC on Suse Linux prof. 9.1. I succeeded in making my Windows XP prof. workstation a member of the Samba domain. When I, after succesfully logging in to the domain from XP, create or copy a file in my own user directory (guus) permissions on te linux machine are set right, like here: -rwxrwxr--+ 1 guus users 4 2004-07-13 23:16 /home/guus/test
