IIS, ASP, and File Change Notification
I'm running IIS5 on windows 2000 with the root web directory mapped to a samba
directory. Everything works great except for IIS's asp caching. Unless I
explicitly disable asp script file caching, IIS refuses to invalidate cached
asp files without a reboot. Research, including the following MS kb entry,
indicates that the problem is that IIS is not getting the file change

Updated 2.4 htree patches available for 2.4.21rc5
I've backported all of the bugfixes to the 2.5 dxdir/htree patches to
2.4, and have created a new set of patches for Linux 2.4.21rc5. At this
point it *looks* like we've fixed all of the htree bugs that people have
reported, including the brelse bug, the memory leak bugs, and the NFS
compatibility problems.
I've done *very* light testing, and things seem to work, but I'm now

[LLVMdev] Casting a Value
Hi,
I have Value V of Type i32*. How can I convert/set it's Type to i32?
Or How can I create another Value of Type i32 and with same name as V.
I have tried
Value *NewV = new Value(Type,scid);
NewV->setName(V->getNameStr());
It causes stack dump. I am not sure as second argument in the Value
constructor as scid (SubClassID). So I have mentioned 0.
Any Idea how to do this?

chattr +T not implemented?
We run a third party application that creates an inordinate amount of
subdirectories in a single directory. To speed up I/O, I wanted to set
the T attribute on the directory that will hold the subdirectories. The
"chattr +T /usr/local/lepus-bb/a-0607" command returns status 0, but
when I verify the setting, the attribute isn't there:
# lsattr -d /usr/local/lepus-bb/a-0607

Sending files from mobile to CentOS via Bluetooth
Has anyone here managed to send files from a mobile phone to a CentOS
system via Bluetooth? I'm trying with a Samsung E1310, using the GNOME
tools, but can't get it to work. I can send files from the Linux box to
this phone using the Nautilus bluetooth plugin
(nautilus-sendto-bluetooth), and have also managed to "pull" some data

Little list of horrors.
Hi all,
I was investigating the SMB signing problems between Win2k
clients and Windows XP servers and thought I'd take a look to see
if there were any hotfix patches for Win2k that were post service
pack 2.
I discovered this list.... :

Homedrive mapping
Hello everyone,
We are making extensive use of the homedrive mapping fields in AD.
(automagically mapping a drive letter to a UNC path without a logon script)
Since we sp2 applied to our clients, none of them have been able to map
their home drives to our samba servers.
According to Microsoft's q-article,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q308580&, "this

Thanks to Martin and Walter for pointing out that this

Unless someone can provide more information to show that
this is not the bug you are seeing with "slow printing from

EXT3 performance on Large (multi-TeraByte) RAID
Has anyone experienced a significant degradation in ext3 performance when using it on a Multi-TeraByte RAID? As part of an experimental setup, I hooked up three 300GB drives and made an EXT3 RAID5 out of them, using the entire space one each drive, and started throwing a large number of files in the size-range 3KB to 50 KB. Then, I deleted the raid, and created a new one, but this time, I used

rails and MSSQL transactions
Hello,
I have rails using a MSSQL db. The set up works fine with low volume,

XP and PDC patch alternative
Hey gang, I just joined the list but I've read back a few months and so far
noone has mentioned this so I thought I'd drop a line on it. I haven't
tried this yet, I have to get back to work to do so but. I think there is an
easier way to disable signorseal then to apply the path. Microsnot addresses
the issue in the following KB article.

Problem with roaming profiles and Samba 3.0
Due to a change in W2K SP4 and XP SP1 (see Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article 327462 at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q327462) Windows
checks the owner of a roaming profile folder when logging in.
For some reason this check fails with Samba 3.0 (at least with our
setup). It works with Samba 2.2.
Any suggestions?
Please CC me. I'm not on the list.
Thanks,

Running SQL over SAMBA?
Hi All,
Does anyone run SQL and/or exchange on SAMBA server share?
Are there any special considerations to take? would you be kind enough
to share your experience doing it?
Any special smb.conf configuration is required?
is there any performance issue or functional limitations supporting it?
I am just wondering since Microsoft encourages block level access over
share/file level access.

IIS cache and change notify timeout...
Hi ho there...
Environment: IIS 6.0 with everything mapped to aspnet_isapi.dll and the
webiste files on a Debian Sarge Samba 3.0.23a-1 server.
Problem: When a file is changed on the Samba server, IIS keeps serving
the old content as long as you keep requesting the file.
What I know so far: Because everything is mapped to aspnet_isapi.dll,
everything is cached in the kernel-mode-cache on the

RFC: Tuning ext3
All,
I'm requesting comments from the expert readers of ext3-users on these
notes for tuning ext3 for performance.
Most helpful would be feedback pertinent to RHEL 5; as XFS isn't
supported under Red Hat Enterprise Linux these items are an attempt to
match XFS performance with ext3.
These items were culled from a number of sources. Will they be effective
for achieving the performance
