Disabling IPv6 in Centos 4.x Experiences
Hi there, While I was looking "how to disable ipv6 under centos" I have found a gazzillion pages about how to do it and some of then even list things that i am not sure where they came from, so for the record I list most of them here in case someone else need them. Some of the methods involved the direct modification of system scripts, and I am against that so I wont list them here

IP-to-Username lookups
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to find users by IP. I'm parsing a firewall log and would like to map internal IPs to users. I noticed "nmblookup -A <ip>" returns interesting results: COMPUTER <00> - M <ACTIVE> DOMAIN <00> - <GROUP> M <ACTIVE> COMPUTER <03> - M <ACTIVE>

Dashes in node names
Hi, I'am using a script which manages the setup of nodes. This depends on zeroconf and so the tinc node name and the hostname must match. But tinc doesn't allow dashes in node names. Is this really is necessary? Dashes in hostnames are not really uncommon. Is there something which prevents appling such a diff?: ----- start diff ----- diff -ruNp tinc-1.0.13/src/protocol.c

Samba + Win2k works, Win2003 fails
Hi all, I've finally almost gotten my desired Samba+AD integration working: I've joined a domain, AD users can login, kerberos works (keytab integration, caching, etc.), etc. However, this is only true as long as I hack my /etc/hosts and /etc/samba/lmhosts files to trick Samba into always using my networks Windows 2000 Active Directory Server. The second a Samba command finds and

simple routing query
Hi, I have 2 interfaces - one for adsl and other for LAN on my Linux gateway machine. The IP addresses are 10.10.10.3 & 192.168.10.101 respectively. Now my routing tables show this particular entry. What exactly is this? 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link Or by traditional route -n, 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 What exactly is this 169.254.0.0/16

After a long break, one more try at bond/bridge nics
took a couple months off due to road blocks, hoping a fresh look would allow me to use my server as desired. I have three ports, eth0-2 over two nics. I want to bond them, and then use a bridge to connect to virtual machines on the virtual host computer. Never having done this, I am confused on some parts. Here is where I am at now and any pointers helpful. Single server, centos 6.x My issue

Multicast DNS required?
Hello, I noticed all my DC's have port 5353 closed. I'm using the internal DNS and wasn't sure if multicast DNS must be enabled? I do not appear to be having any DNS issues.
