smbd wont start
My samba has been setup in its current configuration for around 9 months and
has worked without a problem, over the weekend my windows boxes were unable
to access the samba shares. Using SWAT I found that the smbd was not
starting. I have tried the following:
Trying to start smbd (as root) from the cli with:
smbd start
Seems to execute the command and gave no errors but still swat says that

Cannot start Samba 3.0.23a
I just installed Samba 3.0.23a from the sources on a Slackware 10
server kernal version 2.4.26. I didn't get any errors during
installation. When I try to start the Samba daemon by smdb -D nothing
happens. Here is a snippet from log.smbd:

new to samba, pointers/guidance needed
Hi all,
I've been fighting with samba for a day and a half and hope that I can
get some guidance and/or pointers to info which I clearly need.
I'm running a small network, the Linux host (running samba) is CentOS
5.1, fresh install.
The workstations are WinXP and the goal is to use the workgroup logins
which people use on their local machines to access specific shares on
the CentOS

3.0 with LDAP backend using SSL/TLS and OpenLDAP 2.1.22-1
Preamble: I was reading in the OpenLDAP faq-o-matic that as of 2.1, LDAP
clients (or specifically the LDAP client libraries) need to know how to
find the certificate when connecting via SSL or TLS.
As of 3.0, I've been getting a Samba internal error when setting ldap ssl
= start tls in the smb.conf file. testparm checks out ok (My samba server
is configured as a Role_Domain_PDC server). This

Compiling within Samba Source-Tree
Dear Samba-experts:
we migrated from Samba 3.6 to 4.18 and everything works well.
But there are two problems where I need some expert-help:
We are using a daemon that is running on our AD-server. It accepts
connections from remote machines and changes the passwords of
certain users. Calling system("smbpasswd") from within that daemon
would be too slow so the daemon calls

[PATCH] Group mapping primary group SID update
Hi all !
This is a patch for Group mapping bug #1 reported here :
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2004-January/034057.html
It activates users' primary group SID update when adding/modifying/deleting a
group mapping. It patches utils/net_groupmap.c (net_groupmap_add,
net_groupmap_modify, net_groupmap_delete) and can be applied to samba-3.0.2rc1.

Samba -> PANIC: sys_setgroups failed
Hi,
Hope someone out there can help me on this Samba issue. I'm running out of ideas, I spent days on Google but still have not find any solution yet. Finally, I got Samba 3.5.9 acts like it works, giving me data with wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g AND it returnsusers in my Active Directory with getent passwd & getent group. However, if I try to connect to samba server from windows machines, it

Samba backtrace on network copy
Hi all,
I have an issue when copying large amounts of small files (say 10,000 or
so) from a Samba share across the network.
On a Windows machine it errors with:
"Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller,
either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.".
Linux just says it can't find the file.
The log file says something like

Internal and Panic Errors after raid rebuild
Good morning!
I am at a loss on this one. I had a drive go down and I had to bring
the server down to fix and reinitialize the array, I can't keep samba
running. I have included the log file entries below.
Thinking that maybe something with my samba installation was corrupted,
I went ahead and re-installed the samba rpm's but that has had no
effect.
My searches haven't turned up

Winbind dies redux
All,
I fear I''ve become a pita with this, but windbind periodically dying
on one of my machines is really starting to cause grief, and I have
no idea what might be causing it, especially as the same config is
used on several similar boxes which do not exhibit the problem.
While I've posted the problem previously, I thought that maybe this

smb panic when trying to use printer (samba 3.3.11/CentOS5.4)
Hi everyone,
I recently wanted to try Samba 3.3.11 for CentOS 5.4. At first, I
tried the Sernet packages then I compiled my own packages but in both
cases, I get the same error messages (SMB?PANIC) when I try to
install/delete/use printers in Samba. At first, I thought this was a
right issue on filesystem (due to messages "Permission denied" in
logs), so I change many rights at many
