Samba 3.0.0-2 WINS Static entries
Hi, I'm trying to add static entries to the wins.dat file, as per The Official Samba 3 How-to guide but can't get it to work. If I add entries and just leave it be, the server responds with unknown host and If I restart nmbd it removes all the entries (static) that I manually added. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug ? Brett

wins.dat contains 127.0.0.1 for local server
I couldn't really find anything about this in the archives, sorry if it's been beat to death. I've got a Debian Linux box running kernel 2.0.33. The machine has two ethernet cards and does NAT between a LAN and a cable modem link. For some reason, it's got 127.0.0.1 listed for its name: root@spruce:/var/samba>cat wins.dat "SPRUCE#20" 914324043 127.0.0.1 46R

Now I'm getting the following: >ifconfig eth0 eth0: Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr: [MAC address here] inet addr:192.168.x.19 Bcast:192.168.x.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 .....etc....

WINS.DAT getting wrong address automatically?
Hi, I've got a Samba domain running across two networks. One of the Samba servers has a HiPPI NIC on it, used only for point-to-point connections, and unreachable from everywhere on both networks. The problem is that for some reason, nmbd is registering the HiPPI NIC's address instead of the Ethernet (correct) address for the machine. Anyone ever seen something like this before? I'm

wins.dat keeps coming back with bad information
I recently reconfigured a box running FreeBSD 5.3 with Samba v. 3.0.7 running as PDC. It was servicing 2 networks, processing logons for 192.168.200.0/24 and 192.168.115.0/24. The reason for 2 networks was security, 115.0/24 had some stuff on it that the users on 200.0/24 shouldn't have access to. Before the reconfiguration, the system was working 100%. To make everything better I flattened

Wins, browsing, browse.dat and wins.dat
Hi, I have troubles understanding wins and network browsing functionnality. I have a samba server(pdc) on a different subnet than my clients. The server smb.conf has wins support = Yes, the client are configured to use the wins server. In the wins.dat, i can see all the computers. In the browse.dat i have only computers/servers that are in the same subnet. When i try to browse the network

DHCP and WINS.... wins.dat is out of date
My wins.dat seems to be rather out of date. I'm running Samba 2.2.2 as a wins server with dhcp. When the client address changes, Samba doesn't seem to update wins. The clients are Win2k & WinXP. In the manual page, it suggests that I shouldn't change the max/min ttl parameters. Can I hook dhcp to samba somehow? Rebooting the out of date clients triggered Samba to update

Static Entries wins.dat/browse.dat
I've recently setup an iSCSI portal on my network and have taken some servers offline. However, due to the requirements of certain software programs I need to use UNC paths. I was able to fix this issue by adding CNAME into my DNS. I'm still finding that certain programs still require to view the browse list to find the appropriate server. Since CNAME doesn't link to the

wins.dat to DNS
Hi, I'm wondering how to setup my DNS server (BIND 9.1.1) to read a zone from my wins.dat file. Is there a script I can use, or is there some other way to do it? I'm a linux newbie so a lot of info helps! Thanks, Jeff Nichols -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

Weird IP's in WINS
Colleagues- I'm experiencing a very odd problem that seems to be the root of some cross-subnet domain logon / browsing problems I am experiencing. Basically, I have a Samba 3.0.8 box acting as a PDC and WINS server for an NT style domain that is primarily on one subnet, but has a few users on others. On subnets other than the one the server resides on, domain logons fail sporadically.

Static entries NOT working (Debian, Ubuntu)
Hi, I am trying to add static WINS entries in my Samba server, running on Ubuntu server. I read various forums and inputs on this mailing list mentionning the use of wins.dat which is located at /var/lib/samba/wins.dat Moreover, the samba.org official doc covers this (http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2584250) and also uses wins.dat The problem is

wins or windbind problem? - help please
I have four domains in my LAN. I set up trust relationships for the domains, having each PDC working as wins server for each domain but I hd not set up winbind. I have samba3-3.3.12 + ldap (openldap 2.4.21) as users backend. I mean, I have wins support = yes for each PDC, and I can access to the shared folders of each PDC from any windows computer from my LAN. The problem is accessing to

winpopup and wins.dat
Hello. I'm trying to automate some error reporting on tests run on our labs, and I'd love to pop up messages on the users' screens when that happens. However, some of the computers in question don't have a corresponding <03> section in the PDC's wins.dat file. (Oh: Samba 2.2.8a, under Debian.) Any ideas as to why it wouldn't be there? The clients are all W2K

Hello, These two following lines are from the wins.dat file. I was wondering about the meaning of the last records (44R and c4R). Does anybody know what they mean? "PCLAB#1b" 982581535 10.33.6.140 44R "PCLAB#1c" 982581535 10.33.6.140 c4R Kind regards, Werner Maes LUDIT-KULeuven

static wins entries -- entries change after restart of corresponding Samba server
I am trying to use static wins entries, as stated in the Official Samba Howto Collection. One Samba server (VServer) is with wins service enabled. Another (Server1) is not, but it has the wins server in its smb.conf. When I set wins.dat at VServer: "SERVER1#00" 0 192.168.6.231 192.168.1.231 66R "SERVER1#03" 0 192.168.6.231 192.168.1.231 66R "SERVER1#20" 0
