Hi, Does someone know a document which explains the TDB structure. functionalites, and format of the TDB files etc. I need to understand why some of the TDBs like messages.tdb, unexpected.tdb, brlock if not read_only, locking.tdb, session.tdb, wins.tdb are called with TDB_CLEAR_IF_FIRST tdb flags. Why some TDBs are opend with O_RDWR|O_CREAT flags viz. gencache.tdb, group_mapping.tdb,

Can vista client can negotiage smb2 protocol with the samba server?
Hi, I have a specific question about the SMB 2 (or CIFS 2 version protocol). SMB2 was introduced with Microsoft Vista and is a redesign of the older SMB protocol. (http://wiki.ethereal.com/SMB2) Is current samba 3.0.xx release (or samba 4 release) support this protocol when vista client tries to establish session with the samba server. What are the features or advantages of getting this

Not able to add domain users to local groups
Hi, I was able to successfully configure my samba server 3.0.24 running on Debian Linux server as "Domain Member Server" to W2k3 server. Command "net rpc testjoin" indicates that the join is a success. As mentioned in the document http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html Under the section "Nested Group Support" I was trying to

Samba Problem With Big File Transfer on Windows Client
I use fedora 7 and the last stable version of samba 3.0.25a-3 on an embedded linux system as a server and a windows xp. I 'am using truecrypt and sharing de mount directory with the XP machine via samba. Selniux is disabled. Everything works well such as connection or small files transfers but we have a huge problem when we try to transfer a big file (~100 MB) from the client (Windows) to the

Logon script with Administrator rights
I am using a .bat logon script (the same for all users) and it avoids that I have to configure each user manually. But now I have to run a command that requires administrator rights on two files, and the command I write in the .bat file doesn't work. Do you know how to run the logon script as the local machine Administrator? After all, the logon script is on the server and only me can

restrict what users can log onto each workstation
I have a Samba server with Windows XP clients, and roaming profiles for every user. At this moment everyone can log onto any workstation, but it shouldn't be like that: there are some workstations where anyone can log into, but three of them should be restricted to some specific users. I thought about making local users for them, but we need all users to have roaming profiles, I can't

[OT] DeleteRoamingCache=1 doesn't work
I have a Samba server which I set so that Windows clients have roaming profiles. It works but when the user logs off, his personal folder in C:\Documents and Settings remains there, although i created the key DeleteRoamingCache (as a DWORD) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon and set it to 1. It seems a problem with the Windows client, but I'm not

roaming profiles and quota limits
I have a Samba server where I established disk quotas for each user. When I check the free space from Windows its shows correctly the used space, but not the total space: I have set 100 MB soft limit, 200 MB hard limit and one user has used 150 MB, and it shows "150 MB used / 0 bytes free". When the user logs off, Windows complains that it can't store the roaming profile due to

audit and recycle VFS modules
I have activated the audit.so module and it logs information about file access but not in the format I want: it doesn't log the user name and host name who performed each action on a file or directory. How can I set the format of this log? About the recycle.so module, it works but not always. Some "Permission denied" lines appear in the logs regarding a file move towards .recycle.

delete readonly
I changed the "delete readonly" option to "yes" because some users couldn't delete their own files if they are read only, for example when they have copied them from a CD-ROM. But now other users can delete them too, not only the owner, and also when it was set to "no" it somewhat limited the possibility of a user to accidentally delete a directory with lots

umount share on user logout
I have Windows and Linux clients accessing a Samba share. In the /etc/fstab file of the Linux clients I use the credentials=... option so that the system mounts the share when it boots. If the only person that uses that PC is the one that I have set in /etc/fstab everything is ok, but not if it's another person because the permissions of the share are the ones of the first person. Is there

grant access to a file inside a forbidden directory
We have a directory where only one person can enter, but there is a file inside which needs to be accessed by other people (that person doesn't want to put that file in a common directory). I have found that if I make a hard link to that file it can be accessed, if the hard link and the directory where it lies have the right permissions. But hard links have a problem, they get

per-directory create mask
I have set a "create mask" that works well for most uses, but there are some directories inside my shares where I need to make files read-only, and my create mask makes every new file world-writable. Is there a way to specify a different create mask for some specified directories? I thought about making several shares with different create masks, but I'm only allowed to make

Windows shortcuts and permissions
I have lots of LNK files in a Samba share, which users have been creating for some time. Now we have set different permissions to folders and some of the shortcuts don't work because of that. I have read that mount --bind can be used to give access to a forbidden folder to someone, but this can only be done by root and in the command-line. Is there a way to accomplish this with a graphical

Samba closes my file session
When I am working with MS Access and the mdb file is in a Samba share, when I close it and Access compacts the file, I have to reenter my username and password for that share. These are the logs in /var/log/samba (the lib/util_sock.c errors are common, I get them other times without having my session closed) [2005/12/05 12:59:54, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(833) pablo-w (192.168.0.60)

Gluster Health Report tool
Hi, We started a new project to identify issues/misconfigurations in Gluster nodes. This project is very young and not yet ready for Production use, Feedback on the existing reports and ideas for more Reports are welcome. This tool needs to run in every Gluster node to detect the local issues (Example: Parsing log files, checking disk space etc) in each Nodes. But some of the reports use Gluster

interesting WINS resolution problem iwth 2.2.5 PDC
I'm running a Samba PDC at home (v2.2.5, recently upgraded from v2.2.3 in an attempt to solve this problem) on RedHat 7.3. I have domain logon, printing and all that good stuff working just fine to a couple of XP and 2000 clients. But, I want to mount a couple shares from the domain clients to the server, and that works just fine except for one client. fujisawa(6) ~> smbmount
