unix password sync trouble
Hi,
I'm having some trouble with my password databases. I'm using my
self-made Linux installation (LFS, http://www.linuxfromscratch.com)
and I'm trying to make it a Samba PDC. I'd like to keep both UNIX and
SMB passwords synchronized.
I managed to make passwd adapt both passwords (using some
PAM-configuration). However, if I want to change my password using
smbpasswd I get the

Password Chat/Sync problems with 3.0.23
Hi,
Following an upgrade to 3.0.23, it appears that my UNIX password
sync/chat is no longer working (although I can't confirm it wasn't
broken in 3.0.21, it was working before). The XP clients throw up a "no
permission to change password" error when the users attempt to renew
passwords. I've carefully checked my password chat script and it
appears to be OK. The logs

I am currently testing LDAP (openldap) combined with nss_ldap,
configured with authconfig.
I would start by testing IPA. Redhat is building out a set of
enterprise management tools which include cobbler and spacewalk; I
would think IPA will eventually be integrated into their mgt tools.

little Live search problem
Works fine but when you use backspace or delete on the search word and
it hits 0 characters it displays ALL the Test names in the database!
def live_search
@phrase = request.raw_post || request.query_string
a1 = "%"
a2 = "%"
@searchphrase = a1 + @phrase + a2
@results = Test.find(:all, :conditions => [ "test_name LIKE ?",
@searchphrase])

wins.dat file
In the cached wins.dat file I'm noticing that it's caching the wrong ip
for a hostname. We are using WINS not dns. So we can't ping the host by
name, just by ip address only. Is there a way to clear this cache? Or
what else on a network could be causing this?

unable to change passwd from win XP
Hi list,
I have set up two Samba PDC networks for work with win XP clients. Each
network is small, about 15 clients and three printers. Each uses a
different distro (don't ask)--one is mandriva 2006 the other is debian
sarge. Both have all updates. Both have working wins and dns on Linux.
Mostly things work well, but I am unable to change passwords from the XP
clients. The client will

somewhat OT--windows logon script
Hi Group,
We use a simple logon script to map drives for our users. If we put the
following line:
net use /delete * /yes
then no drives are mapped on the workstations. If we rem it out, the
script works fine.
Full script below:
net use /delete * /yes
net use e: \\server5\peachtree
net use w: \\server5\contract_maintenance
net use t: \\server5\fleet
net use x: \\server5\allusers

dovecot howto?
Hi,
is there a *simple* HOWTO that explains a simple postfix+dovecot setup? Up
to now, I used postfix+cyrus, worked fine. But I do not get postfix+dovecot
to work. Currently, all emails go to /dev/null.
What really would help me is a dovecot lmtp server. Is there any?

samba 3.0.20-3.1.20060mdk installed from rpms on Mandriva 2006; the
clients are windows XP sp2. When I try to change passwd from windows I
get "You do not have permission to change your password".
What am I doing wrong?
My global smb.conf is below.

I have the following setup:

I have successfully joined the AD domain as a Domain Member Server and
can Logon to Fedora with an AD userid and password.
I have been trying for sometime to determine how I can grant an AD group

Granting Access Rights
Problem;
We need to modify access rights on the Unix server so that when file(s) are
created in a directory the file(s) get the group (rw-) access privileges.
When creating files in Unix the files do receive the group (rw-) access
rights. However, files created on a PC with WINDOWS 95 within the same
directory will not receive the group (rw-) access rights.
We have added the following to the
