[POSIX ACLs] Only ACE rules from Samba Primary Group are applied.
Hi, I've a samba 3.0.24 server running in a debian "alike" OS with a (Open)LDAP backend and I'm having the following problem: I have LDAP users that belong to more than one (POSIX) group. For instance, I have a user2 that belongs to group "users" and "grupo2" and I have a share with the following ACL settings: getfacl /home/shares/share1/ getfacl: Removing

Problem with ACLs "Too many ACE entries for file to convert to posix perms."
At the suggestion of Stas, I'm starting a new thread on this one. This pretty much covers where I'm at right now: Doug, thanks, here's a complete listing of the config file, and some logging, hopefully this will be illuminating to somebody. > Neither of these lines set the log level. Yes, I've been setting it in the init script. When I do ps -ef | grep smbd, I see that

acl_tdb failed to convert file acl to posix permisions
We are using SAMBA 3.6.6 on Centos 5 with the acl_tdb VFS module. Our share is backed by storage on a SAN devices that does not support ACLs or extended attributes ... so we're trying the acl_tdb module as a mechanism to support Windows ACLs. We have verified that samba has ACL support enabled, and ACL support works find if we export the share from the local EXT4 filesystem. When trying to

Default Posix ACLs not honoured
Hi all, we are experiencing difficulties with posix ACLs using samba 3.0.28 on a Debian 4.0 etch server. The goal is to not let the Windows clients manage the ACLs but instead set the permissions from the Samba server, hence smb.conf says "nt acl support = no". Problems arise when I have a directory with default permissions for a named group, e.g. # file: ACLTest # owner: juergen #

ACLs under windows 7 - you do not have permissions to access
Hi Everyone, I have a really huge trouble with the Acls under windows 7. I use filesystem's acls under samba and it works correctly under windows xp, but it does not in w7. I am not sure if it is a kind of bug, the case is last week I upgraded my samba 3.0 to 3.5 and my acls under w7 worked fine. Now the problem I have is if a directory is set for example with the grup 'company' and

Change user SID on Samba 4.1
I had troubles with classicupgrade and linux machines, and i'm creating a new AD (for now works perfect). I want to keep the same SID of the old AD to avoid to move all users profiles. Greetings!! mixing Windows ACL and POSIX ACL shares on one server?
Matthias, I used setfacl to set POSIX and Ad ACLS. Windows users who are in the appropriate group can manage perms for both. Rsync patch for default ACLs and executability
I wrote a patch for rsync 2.6.6 that changes two things: (1) When the receiving rsync creates a file in a directory with a default ACL and `--perms' is off, rsync uses the default ACL instead of the umask to calculate the new file's permissions. All programs that just use `open' and don't do an explicit `chmod' are forward-compatible with default ACLs, but rsync always sets

Changing SID on Windows boxes (plug)
This sounds like an advertisement, but I've got nothing to gain. Just thought you might like to know about this. If you're cloning a bunch of Windows boxes, you'll have a problem with SID's... they'll all be the same. That's a bad thing. Maybe you have a need to change a SID... perhaps a dual-boot box where you want the computer names and IP addresses to be the same. This

acls unable to map SID solaris w2k
I think I've looked over every post that has acl or sid or winbind in it. I don't think this has been discussed quite this way. The symptom is similar to other posts but the environment is a bit different. We can do perms through samba, and we can see acls that have been set using setfacl, but we can't change the acls (e.g., add a user). We get: [2002/11/15 17:02:17, 0]

Samba3/ADS: share permissions vs ACLs
Hello, I'm struggling with permissions management in samba 3.0.2, ads member mode, on SuSE 9. I have essentially two questions: 1) What is the precendence of the various permissions (Filesystem, share, ACL, smb.conf, user vs. group in each) that Samba observes, and how do they effect each other? 2) Should I be able to set share-level permissions on a samba share from a Win2k machine by

[PATCH 00/12] acl: remove remaining posix acl handlers
Hey everyone, after we finished the introduction of the new posix acl api last cycle we still left the generic POSIX ACL xattr handler around for two reasons. First, because a few filesystems relied on the ->list() method of the generic POSIX ACL xattr handlers in their ->listxattr() inode operation. Second, during inode initalization in inode_init_always() the registered xattr handlers in

using cifs to access posix acl from a linux client
Hi, We would like to mount a Linux server running samba using a cifs mount from a linux client (linux->linux) and still be able to access the extended attributes. Acl's work on the native filesystem, however when we mount the samba server on the Linux client using mount -t cifs //localhost/test test -o username=xxx Then the extended attributes are no longer visible, only the default

Error: Too many ACE entries for file xxx.txt to convert to posix perms.
When setting permission on a file or folder through Windows XP on a Samba share, I am not able to add additional Active Directory user ID's or groups to the ACL permissions. When I attempt to apply the setting I get a message "Unable to save permission changes on xxxx.file, access denied".
