Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit.
While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.?
We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work.
Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that).
Thanks Viktor.

creating NTConfig.POL
I have an NTConfig.POL I created from poledit with the Windows 2000
Administrator toolkit. It contains my WSUS configuration, and
NTConfig.POL is placed in my [netlogon] share and is being loaded fine
by the clients. Is this still the propery way to create NTConfig.POL
files, or is there a newer utility I should be using? I'm looking at
Vista and it uses .admx templates, which I guess

POLEDIT replacement?
I've been reading about policies and the documentation says to grab
poledit.exe from the NT SP6a file.
There are many policy settings that are not available via this tool.
Isn't there something newer that could be used to create the .pol file
needed by samba to implement policies? Or will this only be available
with samba4?

Controlling use of roaming profiles
We are using a system running Red Hat Linux 7.0 with Samba 2.2.7a as
our PDC.
For the most part, we want to use roaming profiles, so that users'
settings are backed up via the PDC, and are available if they need to
change or reinstall their Windows desktop machine. However, there are
a few Windows systems (running NT 4.0 or Windows 2000) for which
we would like to be able to disable roaming

W2K Workstation not reading NTConfig.pol
I have recently set up an small SAMBA network(just my
server and a W2K SP4 Workstation). My Server is acting
as a PDC. Everything seems to work flawlessly, users,
roaming profiles, netlogon script, etc... But I cannot
make this machine to read my NTConfig.pol file.
I have it at my NETLOGON share [/srv/netlogon] with
rwxr-xr-x permissions. I have tried with different
filenames (NTConfig.POL,

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
I'm creating a deploy plan, for strict client policies (to comply to ISO standards and security)
For mixed win 7 enterprise and win 10 enterprise on a Samba Active Directory.
On the lookout if Samba would be any different towards client policies.
I did some googling, and got pointed to old samba articles of 2007:

ntconfig.pol not loaded
hi samba community and team !
I' m playing with policies under win2k/samba3/ntconfig.pol/poledit
It worked at first, but now seems my win2k test machine doesn't want to load the
ntconfig.pol located into \\mysmbpdc\netlogon
I've seen some threads about the same prob. but none with a solution.
I know there is a project with an "editreg" tool planned.
But for now I would like

Using poledit and NTCONFIG.POL with Samba3 and XP workstations I was
wondering if somebody could tell me how I can get line breaks to appear in
the Logon Banner Text. I have tried /n and ~ so far but no luck

how to set folder redirection on Windows 7 with a Samba PDC
Hi,
I have read that Windows 7 is using a new admx format and that it is not
compatible with the old-school poledit. If I would like to stick with a
Samba PDC, is there any elegant way to get Windows 7 client to obey the
folder redirection(and possibly other rules) set using poledit &
NTConfig.pol?
I have been searching the mailing list, but there doesn't seems to be much

Windows security policy
Hello everybody!!
I have a big network here with many machines with different operating
systems (Linux, Windows 9x/2000/XP and FreeBSD). Currently all of them are
authenticated by a Debian GNU/Linux server running SAMBA with LDAP. It works
perfectly but I have some problems to block some features from Windows
users.
I'm looking for some tool to control the user rights around his own station

how to create NTConfig.POL?
Is there a way to create an NTConfig.POL file without having access to an
NT4, w2k or w2k3 server?
Is there a way to do it in linux? Or a winxp/9x workstation?

Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System
Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the
NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated.
Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an
updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows
2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL

Samba3 GPO
Hi @all,
I have some question I can't find a explanation.
I have a standalone Samba3 as PDC. It works perfect with LDAP.
Now I want to implement Policies.
1) Is it possible to use GPO from ads ?
And if so, where to store this policies.
2) Or can I only use policies created with poledit from NT4 which should
be stored in NETLOGON.
Any help or links about this would be apreciated.

Even if you are running an NT4 domain and manage a recent Windows client
to join it, poledit based policies never applied to them, IIRC since
Windows Vista (or 7) even that NT4 domains still worked at launch, the
policies were ignored.

The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a
Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of
the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the
NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here?

Joost.

User Profiles
Hello all.
I'm in the process of getting roaming profiles up and running on a RH 7.3 installation, running as a PDC on an 'NT Domain'.
I've been reading the PROFILES.txt, and need to clear some things up. Do the rules that apply for WinNT, apply to Win2000, specifically the NTConfig.Pol file. If it does, I can't find it on either the samba server or the Win2000 machine,
