problem with Samba in domain
Hello!
I have a samba fileserver (Debian Woody, Samba 2.2.3a) that I am
trying to join into an NT domain (smbpasswd -j ...); the command says that
it joined the domain successfully.
Then I setup security=domain, workgroup name etc. as outlined in the samba
howtos. However whenever I try to access a share on the Samba server I am
prompted for a password (even though I already logged in through

domain admins not being applied to windows box
Hi,
I have recently upgaded from samba 2.2 to samba 3.0.
I used to have "domain admin group = @winadmin" in my smb.conf,
but I understand from the documentation that it is deprecated
in favour of
"net groupmap set "Domain Admin" winadmin".
I would expect unix users who are members of the
unix group winadmin to become Domain Admins, then,
but they don't ?.
Do I

Problems with migrating from local to roaming profiles
Hello everyone! I have had a lot of luck with mailing lists in the past, so
I'm hoping this one works out well also. I've recently helped my company move
from an NT4 PDC to a Samba 2.2.7a PDC and everything has gone smoothly until
this point. We made the decision to migrate to roaming profiles so our users
could move around and use whichever computer they wanted to unlike before,

Samba performance on FreeBSD
Dear Samba team & other readers,
I'm a satisfied user using Samba as a file server for Windows based
networks and I'm primarily using FreeBSD for this purpose.
When I started to use Samba about half a year ago, I was upset about
the lousy performance but tried my best to search for that problem
at myself. The machine at this time as a Pentium/200 PC with some
SCSI harddisks and 64

another Win2KSP3/Samba2.2.8a-PDC Problem
Hi list,
I am faced by a strange problem w/ one of our 10 win2k/sp3 clients in a
samba2.2.8a pdc-network. If I want to logon I get a message like
this(translated from german): "Your profile has not been loaded, but you
will be logged in to a local Profile. Your serverside profile has not been
loaded because its security-properties are not properly." and that's it.

Moving a computer from a down domain to a new domain
I had been running a samba server, the AMAHI F12 distro, that has samba
3.4.9. It ran well enough, but I was planning on replacing it with
ClearOS. Well monday night I lost my server harddrive, so now it is
crunch time to update/upgrade.
I think I have ClearOS configured properly, it is running samba 3.6.10
(Redhat 6.4 based). So far I have tried to add two of my XP systems to

NSS and group enumeration in CUPS...
I was used (in SambaNT/OpenLDAP) to put on CUPS configuration the
statement (/etc/cups/cups-files.conf):
SystemGroup printops
and add to 'printops' group some users that can manage cups.
Now i'm in AD mode. I'm in 'printops' group:

License Question
Dear All,
I learned about R during my studies at Cologne University of Applied Science. Now I work at Allianz Dresdner Bauspar AG and I would like to install R here too. Is there any license issues that need to be taken in consideration, any fees to pay by the company? I know there are answers to this in the FAQs but I didn't really understand the legal language. Could you therefore just give

Multiple Instancies of Samba on a single System
Hi out there,
i intend to run multiple Instancies of Samba
on a single, multi-homed, server, with each instance bound
to a specific (logical) interface.
If this works, it would be fine to me.
Mainly for administrative Reasons. (You won't believe,
but from time to time it becomes necessary to restart
some services, but restarting the entire server is a
real mess)
Well here my

Variable Importance - Random Forest
Hello,
I am trying to explore the use of random forests for classification and
am certain about the interpretation of the importance measurements.
When having the option "importance = T" in the randomForest call, the
resulting 'importance' element matrix has four columns with the
following headings:
0 - mean raw importance score of variable x for class 0 (where

More LDAP samba 2.2.7a problems
Hey guys. I have been trying to get samba and LDAP with win2k SP3 clients
to work together and have just not be able to get it to work. I followed
the suggestion of adding a guest user to LDAP with an rid of 501, but it
hasn't help. Here is what happens. If a user logs in and they don't have
a profile the computer will save one to the server when they log out
without any problems.

URGENT: Samba Won't Substitute %u In "Logon *" When LDAP Is Used
Version: 3.0.14a (debian stable: 3sarge1)
I'm just about finished converting our company's network from NIS to
LDAP. Part of that involved updating Samba to use that same directory
so all the information is maintained in one place.
Most everything is good, except that my roaming profiles won't work. My
smb.conf file is attached.

LDAP and a strange problem
Hello. I have been looking through the archives of the lists and I didn't
find what I was looking for so I figured that I will post what my problem
and maybe one of you gurus can give me a hand with it.
I have Windows 2000 SP3 clients that are joined to a domain with the
samba server acting as PDC. I am using samba 2.2.7a compiled with ldapsam

xVM Ready for serious use ?
I currently have 2 x ESXi boxes that have VMs stored on a NFS/iSCSI debian lenny linux box. I had purchased a new whitebox server as an intended replacement for the linux box. I had always planned on installing opensolaris on the new hardware with this config;
2 x 640GB mirrored rpool
6 x 1TB in raidz2
This box was going to be built in parallel with the current server and I would have simply
