Support for i7 architecture?
What is the status of i7 architecture support for CentOS-5? Do the
latest updates support it?

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5
PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is
rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in
the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried
specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact
prior to upgrading to Samba version

Samba 2.2.1a - ls inconsistancies.
I am running Red Hat 7.2 and using smbmount to mount a PC share from a NT4
SP5 Workstation.
I have a folder, in this share, of around 300 files and when I do ls -l I
get inconsistencies.
Sometimes files are missing, and if I keep repeating the command the files
are then appear again.
Other times the size information is wrong.
No one else is using, or changing, any of the files on the source

Anyone else seeing disk full errors?
I'm seeing random disk full errors when saving large Excel files to a Samba
share. The users will retry and the second or third time (usually the
second time) it will save correctly. This is with version 3.0.21a on i386
Red Hat 9, kernel 2.4.20-31 patched with ACL.

Column renaming
Dear all,
Is there a less cumbersome way to rename a column by name (as opposed
to index) than --
names( X)[ names[ X] == "bob"]<-"sue"
?
A semi-related question: how does one get the index of a column by
name, something along the lines of col.index( X, "sue") ?

Collection of lm()s
Hello,
I would like to create a subscriptable collection (presumably a list)
of lm() models.
I have a data frame DX containing 6 groups of data. The general idea
is (NOT RUN) ...
for (i in 1:6)
{ DXS = subset( DX, <whatever>);
LMX[ i] = lm( <formula>, data = DXS);
}
Now access model results by subscript ... e.g. coefficients( LMX[
2]). Or would it be [[ 2]]?

FW: Trouble with ACLs
Well, I screwed around a bit and after doing a "wbinfo -u" and a "wbinfo -g"
I stopped getting the "unable to map SID" error. Now I'm getting a
different error. ;-D

Entry in username-map being ignored
Samba version 3.0.10 seems to be ignoring the map file on my system. I have
the line:
root = administrator
in the file but when the administrator account tries to access the system
the add user script is run for the user "administrator".

Data frame row manipulation
Greetings,
Q #1
------
How does one combine data frames by row ... no cleverness a la
merge(), just add rows.
For example, given A with 20 rows and B with 30 rows, I want C =
combine( A, B) having 50 rows.
Columns having matching names should be filled from both (all)
sources with suitable coercion, unmatched would get NA in rows whose
source does not have that column.

reading tables into R
I have been using R and Perl. When I read in a text file using the read.table option, and I try to mathematically manipulate the individual elements in the table, I keep getting an "object is not subsettable" error. If I try to use a different method, it works, but takes too much time(basically, I then need to read in values individually into R instead of as a 2D array, so the number of

Aggregate() questions
Dear all --
I have a data frame containing data related to heat gain through
windows. The general form is ...
Key ProfA IAC <many other numeric columns>
AAA 0 .7
AAA 10 .6
AAA 0 .66
AAA 20 .45
(more AAA rows)
(then AAB rows)
'Key' identifies the physical configuration ... rows with a given Key
contain data for same window under various

Error building with Fedora packaging
A recent post suggested using the Fedora packaging to get the separate RPMs
to build for Redhat. I gave that a try but am getting the following error

Aggregation and the meaning of class
Dear R-ers,
My aggregation saga continues.
Using the following sequence, I can calculate any statistic for row
groups and merge the result back to all associated rows ...

I've just started using R and RSPerl. I have some code as follows:
&R::initR("--no-save");
&R::call("t.test", (\@array1, \@array2));
where @array1 and @array2 are both 1-dimensional arrays in Perl having 54675 elements each. On execution the output is as follows:

predict.lm() question
Dear R-people ...
I'm a new user. I can't get predict.lm() to produce predictions for
new independent data. There are some messages in archived help about
this problem, but I still don't see my error after reviewing
those. I understand that the new independent data must have the same
name(s) as used when the model was made.
In the example below, predict.lm produces the

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I
couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize
the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP
or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any
pointers would be great.
The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse
NetBios name lookup by
