Local Host and VNC access
I finally figured out Shorewall and have configured my Internet Sharing and
have configured my Samba access, webmin access and SSH access. How do I
configure access for VNC and to allow the local host to access the Internet
as well (I need this to get updates and software packages.)
Thanks,
Shaun Marolf

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello,
I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try.

mounting win2003 server shares fails
I emailed about this before but didn't get any response. I am desperate.
I can mount the share of any computer in the domain. XP (even with sp2), 2000, etc... everything works no problem.
When I try to mount a share on a win2003 server, the command completes successfully, but when I try to view the folder, it is not showing.
I have tried several variations of commands:
mount -t smbfs -o

NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL message-- were to look?
Hi folks,
I'm trying to access a shared printer on a windows machine. The
windows box (call it "Doze") is located behind a router/printserver,
and is set up thus:
-DOZE connects to the printer via the printserver using the PRTMATE
port, and then shares the printer via smb -- workgroup CHASS, server
name HIS-FACLAB, printer name his-fac-lex
-Router forwards all incoming connections

Account is added to smbpasswd in UPPER-CASE.

smb4k client
I am trying to get smb4k (KDE) client working.
It displays the computers on the network but not the shares (localhost
has the only share that shows up :-().
The command line may give a clue.
This works:
# smbclient -L //compaq
but it prompts me for a password but I can just press return to get a
list of shares.

Browsing between linux boxes
My problem appears to be too simple to be addressed in the documentation,
being a linux-to-linux problem. This is a mixed home lan, but the majority
of file sharing is done between three linux boxes. All three have a public
directory, but the one on box1 is mainly used for file sharing. All of this
worked well with our old Samba 2 setup, but has now gone to pieces. Two of
the boxes are

I have a server roark (fedora core 5 with samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1) with a

W2K3 Domain - Can't Connect to Share?
I have a linux box, Samba 3.0.23a, that is joined to a W2K3 domain. I
cannot connect to the "MP3s" share (all legal!) on this system - I can
connect to home directories and printers. When I try to connect to MP3s
as any user on the domain, I get an Access is denied message, or it
prompts me for the username and password again. I am using Winbind (if
that matters), so none of these

Any suggestions appreciated.

Greetings,
I have tried a few days on an off to get samba to work, but need some help.

cifs reading Samba mounted share...permissions error
I have a Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1 configured on a Fedora 5 server. It's
joined to an Active Directory 2003 domain controller using Winbind, etc.
I'm able to connect from various workstations using active directory
user accounts/credentials just fine to shares on this server,
permissions work, and all is well. I'm guessing this is set up
correctly.
However, from another Fedora 5 server,

I just recently upgraded to opensuse 11.4.
basic smbd is running mostly fine (some name res-errors, login server missing, (can't connect to Domain service). Notably nmbd won't start due
to undefined symbols:

ldd -r shows a bunch of similar undefined symbols (shown further below).

Bug in kernel-space samba client (3.0.23a) on FC5 (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5)
On a client running FC5 with all packages updated from

2.6.17-1.2157_FC5 linux kernel), I cannot access
multiple samba shares that have share-level security
using cifs.

with share-level security. Make sure the shares have
different passwords.

Problem with "include=smb.%U.conf"
Hi,
Does anybody know why Windows clients can see shares that are defined by the
"include=/etc/samba/smb.%U.conf" option in but Mac OS X and Linux Samba
clients cannot see those shares?
In other words, I have a bunch of users. Each user has a set of his/her own
unique shares on my Linux server that are defined in files called:
/etc/samba/smb.User1.conf
/etc/samba/smb.User2.conf

Regarding smb4k
Hi all
Recently I found that, in smb4k, if you press ctrl+v after selecting any
share, you can view the contents of a share without mounting it. Does anyone
know a command-line equivalent for the same? thanx
