everyone acl
Howdy all, I was wondering if there was a known bug with the everyone acl. When looking at the security tab on windows the everyone acl has the read permission. If I unselect it to give everyone no permission and hit apply, read becomes checked again. If I select deny everyone read, then a warning pops up saying this will deny read for all users and it does. If after that I give read to another

Question on proper handling of usernames
Hi all, I would like to try to start up a conversation about the "proper" handling of usernames by samba/winbind. I know our current active directory setup is not really considered supported via samba and I would like to know if the samba developers think this might change, or if there are any recommendations for my issues. *** Since this came out rather long, here is a quick

farpd with shorewall
Hi, Currently I am looking for possibility to have a no-config network enviroment, where in this local area network, we don''t need to set any ip to a computer, it doesn''t matter the computer already have a fixed ip/sm/gw (even doesn''t belong to the enviroment). When ever a browser is ''clicked'', the computer will able to get connected to the internet.

Passing a password from a program to ssh
Hi all Probably this question was asked before, but I didn't find anything in the FAQ or in the archives. I've written an programm that connects to a SSH server and communicate over the SSH protocol with a SSH subsystem. SSH now shows a prompt where the password should be typed in. If an error occurs (protocol error or so) the programm must reconnect to the server and reestablish

Two subnets in one PDC ?
Hi, I?d like to ask for your help. I?m having in production a pdc with ubuntu+samba+ldap and have a doubt because I have two subnets, one is 192.168.100.xxx and the other one is 192.168.200.xxx. Both of them belong to the same domain and they login against the same pdc. These two nets share files ok, they respond mutually to the ping and if I do //pc-xp can acces from any pc to any other. E-mail advice sought
I'm working on setting up an e-mail service. I've got the e-mail servers working beautifully and am presently working on re-writing the parts of Roundcube I don't like (e.g. it uses inline JavaScript in a few places so CSP breaks it) but - Is there any advice on characters to allow in usernames? I know there are some wacky characters that are legal in e-mail addresses but are

GFS2 hangs after one node going down
Hi guys, my goal is to create a reliable virtualization environment using CentOS 6.4 and KVM, I've three nodes and a clustered GFS2. The enviroment is up and working, but I'm worry for the reliability, if I turn the network interface down on one node to simulate a crash (for example on the node "node6.blade"): 1) GFS2 hangs (processes go in D state) until node6.blade get

rsync hanging after working reliably for years on one of my shares
Howdy all, I'm using rsync in conjunction with backuppc and have been backing up this share without incident for almost 3 years and it has decided to go and hang on me. Other shares on the same machine sync fine with identical settings, and nothing has changed on the backup end other than some routine dist-upgrades to keep update on security patches. I checked the apt cache and no rsync

Change password cheme
We want to update our password scheme from crypt to SHA256. Because usernames/passwords are in MySQL I thought this wouldn't be a problem. We have about 3000 users that need to be updated, so make a new password for them isn't possible. I was thinking of an automated script that would update the database after every login. So we did this: dovecot.conf: mail_executable =

samba-3.2-pre2 feedback
Hi, As with the last few releases, compiling on solaris requires that I edit the Makefile and remove instances of "-z text" Also, once compiling and installing, it seems unable to start: ld.so.1: smbd: fatal: libtalloc.so: open failed: No such file or directory Killed ld.so.1: nmbd: fatal: libtalloc.so: open failed: No such file or directory Killed This is fixed by adding

Read-Only Model Attributes AFTER creation?
Howdy, I''m writing an ''edit profile'' screen. I was writing some tests first (yay!), and I realized that, if you were smart, you could use the edit form to change your username. I know I could use attr_protected on username, but that would still allow for usernames to be changed (abeit not through the form). How can I make the username read only AFTER the object has

7.2 kernel panic on boot
I wanted to help you by making sure that you were on the most recent version, but, looking at the Centos.org website I was unable to figure out if 7.2 was the tip. 7.1503? Is that 7.2? Beats me. https://wiki.centos.org/Download appears to say that 1503 is the current version. I *thought* this wacky CentOS version number would be more like 7.1.1503? Did I miss something? Is there no easy mapping

Multiple Users On One Share With Permissions=755 for Created Files
Howdy Samba Group, I'm about 2 clicks away from being a total Samba newbie, but I did manage to get one up and running on RH9 in a W2K / Novell for Windows environment. The shares are set up like this: -- each member of the group has a private share accessible only from their desktops -- a common share, 'research ', accessible to any member of the research group from any of the

Understanding UID/GID mapping models.
I am using either DOMAIN or ADS for authentication and am trying to understand how UID/GID mapping rules are triggered. This[1] seems to suggest that if I do not specify the idmap uid/gid parameters in smb.conf, then authenticated usernames are mapped to "local" user accounts having the same name. If, however, I _do_ specify idmap uid/gid then one of the idmap_* allocator modules is
