extending files slow on FAT filesystems
Hi,
I'm running Samba 3.0.23a on Linux. One of my share is a USB disk with
a FAT32 filesystem.
When copying large files from my Windows XP machine to this share,
smbd seem to "reserve" (by using ftruncate()) the space needed on the
USB disk before actually doing any copying. This ftruncate() operation
takes quite a while when the file is large. It may even cause the
client to time

Trusted domain problem
Hi.
We have a NT domain A and a NT domain B. In A we have a number
of users and in B we have none. It is said to me that B
"trusts" A. The machine P is the PDC (running NT).
A UNIX machine M is running Samba 2.0.4 and is a member of
domain B (I've used smbpasswd to add it and it worked just fine).
smb.conf on M:
security = domain
password server = P
workgroup = B
netbios name = M

Ubuntu 12.04 (GParted 0.11.0)
I think that the problem is in my command line.

Sorting and getting occurrences of search in hit
Is there any way you could get the number of occurrences of the search
in one hit?
In a result I get the ferret_rank and ferret_score but not how many hits
the search generated in the current record.
I would also like to be able to sort after this when I search.

Win32DiskImage rulez. :-D
Bonus: No more geometry problems on old BIOSes. Just create a nice GPT
formatted image with a cool protective MBR. This can even expose the

Determine from which device syslinux booted from
The RAW nature of Disk Imager fails to leverage the unique intentions of UUID to surmount the problems of multiple bootable drives in the same system for purposes of knowing which one you actually booted from and should continue to use.

Is there a way to change/look at AUTH_SYS?
Seems I have 28 groups now as my user
I tried created a test user with much less groups
but it turns out it is on all those other groups.
As such I tried
winbind nested groups=no
but this doesn't seem to change anything.

Some (U)EFI questions
Hi everyone,
for UEFI bootable media I currently use preloader+gummiboot while on
BIOS media I use isolinux/extlinux. Since maintaining two configurations
is some kind of extra work, I plan switching to syslinux in the next
weeks or months. Creating an UEFI boot partition or El-Torito image
seems easy: Use preloader, hashtool and the syslinux efi file, copy them
to the FAT image and be

Fitting of lognormal distribution to lower tail experimental data

I am beginner with R and need firm guidance with my problem. I have seen
some other threads discussing the subject of right censored data, but I am
not sure whether or not this problem can be regarded as such.
