Linux performance bug: fsync() for files with zero links
Linux kernel (as of 2.6.15.4) has the following performance bug:
Syncing (fsync() or fdatasync()) files with zero links (deleted files) in not
no-op, as it should be.
See details, a test C program, and the rationale in the URL below:

panic on zfs scrub on builds 79 & 86
This just started happening to me. It''s a striped non mirrored pool (I know I know). A zfs scrub causes a panic under a minute. I can also trigger a panic by doing tars etc. x86 64-bit kernel ... any ideas? Just to help rule out some things, I changed the motherboard, memory and cpu and it still happens ... I also think it happens on a 32-bit kernel.

mapping multiple groups with: net groupmap?
Sorry if this is obvious but I'm not up to speed yet
with Samba 3.
Google turned up this command:
net groupmap modify ntgroups="Domain users" unixgroup=users
which would be all fine and dandy if everybody was in the
same primary group, which they are not, since it completely defeats
the purpose of having groups in the first place.
On my system we currently have 87 groups (one

Hi
I thought I finally had this PDC pu and runing but I don?t. Samba is working fine ?cos I can see the shares from other machines
(I?m yet to join them to the domain). I have a mandrake 9.2 and using samba 3.0 and ldap 2.1.22 as backend and not able to
join machines to the domain so I used ldapsearch and net groupmap to see what?s up with the ldap server and it came up with the

rsync-3.1.0 --chown, --usermap, and --groupmap ignored?
The man page describes options --chown, --usermap, and --groupmap, but
these seem to be silently ignored beyond validating that the user and
groups do indeed exist. Is the following supposed to work?
$ touch a
$ rsync --chown=http:http a b
$ ls -l a b
-rw-r--r-- 1 jed jed 0 Oct 14 02:44 a
-rw-r--r-- 1 jed jed 0 Oct 14 02:45 b
$ chown http:http b

Unable to get groupmap to work with LDAP
I believe I have everything setup correctly on my RH9 server running Samba
3.0.3.rc1 and openLDAP 2.1.22. I can join computers to the domain and
authenticate to the domain without any problems. What I am having problems
with is trying to do a group map so Domain Admins have administrative rights
on the workstation when they login. I can get this to work on non LDAP
setups by issuing net

In a Sarge Kernel 2,6 running Samba 3 as PDC security=user, I turned with "net groupmap modify..." the English language of the names of the groups of dominio NT to the Spanish, so these are compatible with the Spanish version of each W9x.
Everything it did without problems with script downloaded from Internet. But in the list of users and groups of the window "Share..." in

permission denied accessing directories - groupmap - please help
Hello,
User can ssh into the box fine, but the directories I groupmapped are
not translating (maybe they are not supposed to?)
I have, for example, a share called Share_Dfsroot_pvcs-cdw_C that I
used net groupmap to map to a unix directory called cdw. I set the
group id to match what Share_Dfsroot_pvcs_cdw_C uses in /etc/group. I
chgrp cdw on a directory. When the user logs into the server,

smb.conf problems causes net groupmap to fail
Hello,
I just thought I would post this since it may be helpful to others if
they run into the same issues I did.
I am using Samba 3.0 with openLDAP 2.1.23 as backend db on a Slackware 9
system. This is purely a test system that I need to test at home
reliably enough to put into production in a school system. I was getting
error messages when I went to run samba/bin/net commands. Couldn't
