Samba 3.0.23 - smbd + custom passdb panics when there is no root user
Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading from v3.0.20a to v3.0.23 with our
local passdb plugin. The plugin complies without any issues.
Our User DataBase contains all our users accounts but not system
accounts. With Samba v3.0.20a this wasn't a problem.
Why th change between v3.0.20a and v3.0.23 ?
Do you see any issues if I return a fake root account? Returning a
fake root account s a hack I

Everything but [Homes] works
I am migrating from my "old" 2.2.7 samba server to a newer server runnig
3.0.20a and everythig is working except the [homes] share. The server
(FILE-CABINET) is a member of the domain, security is set to ADS and, as
far as I can tell, kerberos is working. The program wbinfo returns a
list of users and groups like it should. getent passwd returns first my
local passwd file and then

Downgrade from 3 to 2 suggestions
After considerable experimentation I'm forced to accept that Samba 3 has
problems with the combination of being a domain member, the 2.6 kernel,
and Dell 2850 hardware. It works fine on the 2.4 kernels but fails on
all the 2.6 versions I have avaialble for testing. I have one machine
that I really prefer could stay at 2.6 so my last resort there is to try
a downgrade to samba 2.X

Syntax for address range
I would like to add a rule allowing only the address 192.168.150.20 and the
range of addresses from 192.169.150.100 to 192.168.150.150 in zone dmz0 to
connect to two terminal servers in the local zone.
Is there a syntax that can specify a range of addresses in the rules file? Do
I have to enter each one separately?

Samba and BackupExec
Hi,
I've got Samba 2.0.2 and a server NT4 SP3 with Seagate BackupExec 7.0.
When I want to backup Samba with Seagate BackupExec, I get a message
saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another
one saying "A device specific error occured".
I've read all the Samba archive about that subject, but I do not find
any solution.

separate routing tables), two DMZ''s, at least one VPN to a remote office, and
a local trusted network. The configuration will look like:

Dom0 versus DomU and sata DVD drives
I have couple question about using Xen in the "real" world.
My test box is a Dell Optiplex 745 with a Core 2 processor and 4 G of
RAM. I am using 64 bit Centos 5 with Xen 3.03. Right now I have it
set up so Dom0 is my working domain and I add other DomU for whatever
tests i need to do. From what I''ve read here, this is not the best
way to do things.
So my first question is,

Here is the thing.. I need to order my BRI from BT.. The service that looks to be the one to use is what they call ISDN 2e becasue this has the option to setup hunt groups across multiple ISDN2e lines so I could add another line later to get 4 channels..
According to the BT website in order to use the hunt grouping across

in continuation with the earlier R puzzle
When I just run a for loop it works. But if I am going to run a for loop
every time for large vectors I might as well use C or any other language.
The reason R is powerful is becasue it can handle large vectors without each
element being manipulated? Please let me know where I am wrong.

winbind: idmap_rid - no user mapping
Hello,
I've some trouble with winbind and the idmap_rid feature in an ADS
environment. (Opteron with Debian 3.1pure64, official Samba/Winbind
packet 3.0.14a)
Without "idmap backend = idmap_rid:...." in the smb.conf a "getent
passwd" works fine.
Then I delete the /var/lib/samba/*.tdb-files, activate idmap_rid in
smb.conf (see below) and join the ADS-Domain once more -
