sharing word files
hello
I'm having the following problem:
On a share I have a user with read-only access to word files. Another
user has read-write access to these files.
When the user with read-only access opens a word file and then the
user with read-write access to these files opens the file, the
read-write user has only read-only access.
If the read-write user opens the word file first, then he has

Problem joining Netapp server to samba domain
hello
I would like to join a Netapp fileserver to a Samba domain that uses
an external Openldap server for authentication.
Here's what I do and where it goes wrong (I've hidden the real ip
addresses). I've also created a machine account for the Netapp server
on the PDC.:
What is the name of the Windows NT 4 domain? [WORKGROUP]: PCKLAS

The single WINS problem: question
hello
I've been reading the thread
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?t=113286376900001&r=1&w=2) and I have
the same limitation with WINS in a PDC/BDC.
That's why I have the following (experimental) setup:
PDC ==> wins support = yes, passdb backend: master ldap
BDC ==> wins support = yes, passdb backend: slave ldap
I configured some of my XP clients to use both WINS servers

bug in 3.0.21a?
hello
when I try to connect to a share from my windows xp client, it does
not work. In linux via smbclient, there's no problem.
see below for the error log
version = 3.0.21a
security = server (the problem only seems to occur on servers that
rely on another samba server for authentication).
any ideas?

net rpc trustdom list: enumerates all accounts
Hello
When I perform the "net rpc trustdom list" command I get the
"couldn't enumerate accounts" error.
I use LDAP as passdb backend with approximately 30000 accounts.
If I run the command, I can see from my LDAP logs that it tries to
list every account on the LDAP server. Therefore the "net rpc
trustdom list" command times out.
Is this normal behaviour?

secure channel & ntlmssp in 3.0.21b
hello
Apparently something seems to be changed since 3.0.20b.
I have two servers: one domain PDC and one domain member server
On both servers I had set
server schannel = No
client schannel = No
I installed 3.0.21b and I could no longer make connections to shares
defined on the domain member server
When I tried to add another server to the domain I got this error

Is there a way to get p-values for a one-sided hypothesis test about a
poisson mean?

cifs and Netapp DFS-shares problems
Hi,
are there any known issues with cifs and DFS-shares on Netapp file
servers? We have a Netapp file sever with DFS on the user's home shares.
The home shares can successfully mounted with
mount -t cifs //sever/home/username /mnt/ -o user=username,domain=AD
but the connection hangs in the moment a directory listing is started.
The strange thing is that only shares with activated DFS show

Change labels of x-axes in Plot of stl() function?
Hi all,
How can the label of the x-axes in the plot() of a stl.object be adapted?
e.g.,
When plotting: plot(stl(nottem, "per"))
In the labels of the x-axes is “time”. How can this be changed to e.g.,
“Time (dekade) “?
It does not work with xlab or others anymore…
Thanks,
Jan

smbclient: Renaming file on DFS root fails with NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND
If a file is stored directly on a DFS enabled share, renaming fails with
NT_STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND.
The usecase may sound unusual, but a customer is using NetApp ONTAP 9,
which by default advertises DFS capabilities for all shares, and he
cannot disable it for policy reasons.
I can also reproduce the issue with smbd and Windows Server 2012 R2
(haven't checked with other versions).

Maximum likelihood estimate of bivariate vonmises-weibulldistribution
Thanks Dimitris!!! That's much clearer now. Still have a lot of work to
do this weekend to understand every bit but your code will prove very
useful.
Cheers,

survreg() with frailty
Dear R-users,
I have noticed small discrepencies in the reported estimate of the
variance of the frailty by the print method for survreg() and the
'theta' component included in the object fit:
# Examples in R-2.6.2 for Windows
library(survival) # version 2.34-1 (2008-03-31)
# discrepancy
fit1 <- survreg(Surv(time, status) ~ rx + frailty(litter), rats)

Bootstrapping stepAIC() with glm.nb()
Dear all,
I would like to Boostrap the stepAIC() procedure from package MASS for
variety of model objects, i.e.,
fn <- function(object, data, B = 2){
n <- nrow(data)
res <- vector(mode = "list", length = B)
index <- sample(n, n * B, replace = TRUE)
dim(index) <- c(n, B)
for (i in 1:B) {
up.obj <- update(object, data = data[index[, i], ])
