NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE with pdc samba + openldap + SuSE9.1
I am trying to configure a samba with openldap as a PDC on SuSE9.1 with
samba-3.0.4, openldap2-2.2.6, samba-winbind-3.0.4, following the book
Samba-3 By Example, by John H. Terpstra.
I am getting errors "NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE" from smbclient commands

one fails in exactly the same way...may I ask how best to correct
this?
Here is the error:

Need help with IDMAP storage in LDAP using Winbind
Hello @ll,
First a small sketch of my working environment.
There is one PDC, W2000 server, which contains an Active directory, so
basically all the windows users are maintained there. And the Linux/Unix
accounts are stored on a NIS server.
My goal would be the following 2 things.
Firstly currently all the Linux/Unix servers are setup with individual
winbind setups to make the windows users

Hi list,
I'm getting stuck at the replication part for my BDC. Could
someone familiar with OpenLDAP replication shed some light?
I'm sure
that password is correct
Thanks for taking a look at!

samba 3.0.7 and OpenLDAP
Hello List,
yet another OpenLDAP/Samba problem...
OpenLDAP: slapd 2.2.17
Samba: Version 3.0.7
Debian stable with 2.4.27
I am trying to do this howto (smb auth via ldap):
http://www.idealx.org/prj/samba/smbldap-howto.en.html
Even IF the user does not exits in my ldap table, why does smbd just
exit? Do i start it the wrong way?
This is the output of smbd -F -i -d 9 -S -s /etc/samba/smb.conf

Still working on a Member Server
Going through the examples and reading through the wiki's I still have not found exactly what I was looking for in matching uid's and gid's.

We currently have a domain controller Samba/LDAP PDC.

and I went to add a member server. Now I find that users and groups don't match. So from

WG: Still working on a Member Server
For me getting a member server to work I did not need winbind just ldap
was sufficient. Did you made the trust account?
Getent group and passwd must give you all users and groups.
You must be able to chmod domainuser:domaingroup on your Member Server.
What I recognized is that the member server with samba 3.028 is much to
slow. It takes too long if you try to connect over My Network Places.

Samba LDAP passthrough authentication to another openLDAP
Hi all,
I have a setup like this. Pls let me know if it's possible or not.
SAMBA + Local LDAP ---> SASLAUTHD --> Global LDAP
Desc:
I'd like to do Samba authentication to LDAP, passthrough to another

Errors in smbd log file
List,
Regarding a problem I'm having that I can't login to our domain, after
searching google I checked my smbd log file. I pasted the log file
below. Please know that I could see the samba server in my network
places just fine before. Now when I double click on the domain I get
the error message that the path was not found. I'm running w2k.
Thanks,

3.0.23 for Debian Sarge: LDAP problems
Hi,
I always prefer the Samba packages for Debian-Stable from the
Samba-Team and I never had a problem so far (thank you, Simo!).
Yesterday I updated from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23 in my LDAP-based network. I
updated samba.schema, added "index sambaSID eq,sub" to my slapd.conf
and ran slapindex. When I started slapd and samba afterwards, I saw
error messages like these (from smbd.log):

NT Workstation and Samba PDC
Hi.
I'm having a big trouble.
We migrate a NT PDC to a Samba PDC. No problems in migration. Everything
works fine.
The problem is: I can't add a NT machine to Domain. Simply does not work. XP
and W2K works great.
I started using Debian Sarge Package 3.0.14. In this version I could not
manage groups using the Domain User Manager from NT. So I updated to
3.0.23cpackages from
samba.org.

openssh 2.5.2p2/Solaris 5.8 problems
openssh 2.5.2p2 on Solaris 8 has PAM/cron problems. If I build it with PAM
then cron quits working giving "cron audit problem." errors. If I turn
PAM off then cron works but I get kicked out of any session where a password
is needed (i.e. no .rhosts/.shosts or not using ssh-agent) with the message
"Connection closed by IP#". I get through if I have a .rhosts/.shosts or use

Bad Password Count Problem -- LDAP connection failed
Dear Help,
Initially, I thought that I had solved this problem, but it turns out that I
haven't. I currently have Samba set up as a PDC with an eDirectory/LDAP
backend. There are also a few Samba BDCs in play as well.
If a user enters the correct password, there are no issues and everything
authenticates fine. If I turn off the PDC and force a user to authenticate
against a BDC with the

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4
to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little
while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client
terminal:
Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon.
However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this.

Idletimeout patch, third attempt
Here is my third attempt at the idletimeout patch. I tried to address
the points which Marcus Friedl brought up.
It is actually bigger than the previous patches, but not as intrusive.
It is big because it moves some stuff from serverloop.c to packet.c.
- I moved all the logic to packet.c. This means that I also had to move
the actual select() call, which used to be in serverloop.c to packet.c.
