Specified User Does not exist ?
Hey all, I hope I'm missing something simple. This is my second PDC install and I'm having some problems getting my win2k machine to join the domain. First I made the machine account: useradd -g 100 -d /dev/null -c "bob's computer" -s /bin/false office1$ Then I lock the password: passwd -l office1$ Next I make the smbpasswd -am office1 name. Finally, I added a

PDC and windows xp domain joining - root user does not exist
I am trying to set up a samba PDC, and I have followed many FAQ's and HOWTO's ive found online. all seem to be just about the same.. So, I made a config up (at the end of this email) then I did the following: added users/machines as such: (just trying to get it to work, will spice it up later) useradd test$ passwd -l test$ smbpasswd -a -m test smbpasswd root (entered a password

winbind: using idmap only if user doesn't exist in UNIX getpw*(3) ?
Greetings all. I have a requirement to use winbind to allocate UID/GIDs for users but only if they aren't in the non-winbind nsswitch sources. I.e, given smb.conf ; samba 3.0.7 realm = DOMAIN workgroup = DOMAIN log level = 3 idmap:10 winbind:10 idmap gid = 50000-59999 idmap uid = 50000-59999 ADS users: DOMAIN\adsuser1 ; only in ADS, not NIS DOMAIN\adsuser2 ; only in ADS, not

Server-Profile only applied when domain user gets Admin privileges on WinXP
After upgrade from 3.0.x to 3.4.3 (on new hardware) profiles only apply when the domain users are Members of the local WinXP admin group!? The Account behaves like a guest account - Modifications can not be saved (e.g. the left side of the XP/SP3 task menu remains empty, Control Panel can not be changed to classic view, .). No problems at all with profiles created unter samba version 3.4.3.

Specified user does not exist. Huh?!
Ok folks I?m at my wit?s end here as I cannot seem to join the domain I setup under Samba version 3.0.7. Every time I try and join the domain with a user that has the power to add a machine to the domain it just says that the user does not exist. This happens with all accounts which I have specified in the smb.conf file as a user that can do this function. I have added those users via smbpasswd ?a

Adding existing ldap users as Samba users
Hi people: I have a LDAP server running OpenLDAP that serves authentication purposes to services like ftp, imap, openvpn, etc. Now I implemented a Samba PDC based on LDAP. I did the configuration with Samba 3.2.5 on Debian Etch and smbldap-tools. I was able to join a WinXP workstation to my domain without problems but I can't login with any existing user in my LDAP directory. Then I added my

Problems adding a user
I am having problems adding a user. Here is some background: OK this is my first attempt to build a Samba server so be gentle. Operating System: Fedora Core 3 Samba version: 3.0.10-1.fc3 I have set up a Stand-alone server to support my 4 client machines (all WinXP boxes w/o a domain). I had some difficulties getting things to work and eventually traced them down to a Firestarter

solaris/2.2.2 authentication against NT domain (ie. root canal)
Greetings, This is my first post (hopefully not too newbie for this group). Thank you in advance to anyone who feels compelled to help. I'm trying to get a copy of Samba 2.2.2 running on Solaris 9 to authenticate against an NT domain. I have successfully done this on a Redhat 7.2 box which is running Samba 2.2.4 on the same domain. As best as I can tell, the configurations of these

System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found. After moving working system to a new domain.
I am re-posting this with a subject line in line (hopefully) with your guidelines. Apologise if this causes any confusion. I'm fairly new to samba but I've spent too long on this - can anyone help? This system was previously working on another domain. Now I have tried to register it on the production domain (it has been removed from the test domain and I've deleted the secrets file

Multiple connections to a server by same user, using more than one user name, not allowed.
Hi, I am using samba 2.2.7, configured with winbind, connected to a domain. I have publically shared printers that are done via user map. I also have many shares that I need to authenticate for, due to access rights. With one of the printers installed on my XP laptop, if I try to connect to a share, but inputting my "DOMAIN\user" and "password" I get the following error:

Linux printer share for NT 4.0 clients..
Hello, I'm a samba novice ;( Saw your "detailed" responses to another newbie questions so I thought I give you a shout :) Here is my setup: I've got 2 Linux boxes. One is running Ypserv and handles the authentication, the other is a 486 33mhz running ypbind(slave) and it is my printserver. The print server is also running 1.9.18 samba release as a daemon (smbd -D). It

Samba3.0beta1 as PDC with LDAP
I finally got Samba-3.0beta1 as PDC with LDAP backend. However, I need to specify: passdb backend = ldapsam smbpasswd:smbpasswd guest and have the root account's exists in smbpasswd file. I still could not get a uid=root entry in LDAP to allow client workstation to join the domain. When in samba-2.2.8a I could use a fake rid=506 with uidNumber=0 entry in LDAP (as a SambaAccount) and it

Example: user1 in group main create file test, he can change file attr or date/time, but user2 from the same group main can not. Sorry for my bad english. Announce: KDE User Manager does smbpasswd.
Hi, I'd like to announce a beta patch to the KDE user manager (kuser) that integrates the management of the smbpasswd encrypted password file with the existing password file. The eventual target audience is administrators installing Samba based PDC's, or other applications where an encrypted smbpasswd file needs to be managed using graphical tools not too dissimilar
