roaming profile unusable after smb ports = 139
Hello,
I have a big problem with a samba setup.
After I tried the config option
smb ports = 139
in the global section, 90% of the roaming profiles are not
usable by the windows XP clients.
Removing the smb ports options didn't help.
No errors in the samba logfile.
erasing the profiles seems to fix the issue, but I cannot
afford losing all my users profile data!
here is my smb.conf.

Blank printers names while browsing remote printers from windows
Hi friends.
This morning waking up is painfull.
We've got a
great CUPS+Samba+Winbind print server sharing 30+ printers to our
windows clients.
Until this morning no issue, used on production for a
couple of weeks.
Today, the printer shares became unbrowsable from
windows. We can see the printers names from samba share :
"\printserver", but when we click on the "Show

slow graphics download
Hi,
I often work from home, running R on my office computer and displaying
interactive graphics on my home computer using X11. This was always
more sluggish than sitting at my office computer, obviously, but
recently the graphics transfer has become painfully slow -- so slow,
that I now divert the images to a postscript file and display that file
remotely (which takes a second or two).

'Little' problems with Samba v2.2.3a-12.3 (Debian Woody) and PRINTERS !!
Hi,
I am using Samba (v2.2.3a-12.3 on stable Debian Woody) on a bi-cpu server
(named MYSRV) acting as a primary domain controller. All works well except
for printers where I have severals little problems. I use LPRng (v3.8.10-1.2
on stable Debian Woody) as my linux lpd spooler on my server. I have 2
printers : one HP LaserJet 4000N (named nss.1er) and one HP LaserJet 4050N
(named nss.rdc).

printers: access denied -- but why?
I am running 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian stable with Win2k machine and an
XP machine on a small home network. I have only just started using
printer support and seemed to have it fine with a postscript and a
"raw" connection for the HP LJ5MP printer (with internal PS) working
fine from W2k and WXP. Then I took the server down as I'll need
another parallel port in it. Rebooted after

[LLVMdev] Files to lib/System/Win32
Hi
What did I start? <*shrug*>
Well, well, well.
First a little bit of history:
I joined the LLVM project, because the ideas sounded very interesting to me
and I voluntered for a minor patch for prefetch datasupport for the
gcc-compiler.
At that time, when I joined, the only possibility to develop on the windows
platform was to use Cygwin Unix Windows emulation layer, but it had some

FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Jim,
Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is
something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like -->
hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause...

Tr: RE: Samba 2.2.5 and printers
Ok, I solved the problem by myself. The problem was that the users with wich I tried to connect to the printer where defined as admin users, and I declared root as an invalid user in the samba configuration, so it always give me an access denied because it tried to connect as root.
Anyway thanks for the time you waste trying to help me ;-)

Wine through NX (mouse slow)
I'm using Ubuntu 10.4, and running Nomachine (NX) and Ultima Online via Wine. It seems to run fine except the mouse is so sluggish it is unusable.
Is there any way to tune this or am I just expecting too much from the software?
This is through a ssh tunnel, via the Internet. Locally it works well.

Theming slow wine down a lot. Can I just change colors?
I've tried theming, but it makes parts of the GUI very sluggish
(especially menus) and there are glitches.
Is there a way to change the colors used by unthemed wine?
-Sterling Christensen
PS: I think 9x colors are no longer the best default for wine. With no
theme, people have actually pointed at wine apps running on my desktop
and said "yuck". It gives wine an old/obsolete look

Lego Star Wars and Spore are running slow suddenly.
I upgraded to Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, and Wine 1.1.8 some time last week, and then reinstalled Spore to give it some play. It worked fine for a couple of days, but now I'm in the space stage and the game is incredibly sluggish.
This wasn't happening beforehand, it was running fast and marvellously smooth until I tried to stop a war on my home planet. This appears to be a recurring theme,

ext3 tuning parameters. what are they
When memory is low, ext3 gets a bit sluggish cursor getting jumpy etc. I
say ext3 because I don't see a similar behavior with ext2. What are the
ext3 tuning variables that I can try? For example, I see a message like
"commit interval 5 seconds" in /var/log/dmesg.

XP client printing junk to printers installed using print$ share
Hi all,
I have installed samba server and pritners. Instead having to put drivers
to all clients, I decided to use the print$ share, so that, as I read, I can
also make use of printing accounting.
I did all the requird steps to install the pritner on my FC4 system, put all
the required driver files to the print$ share, added the driver files to
samba (npcclient adddriver) , verified samba can

KVM on CentOS 7 - sluggish performance with Win10 Guest
Hey all,
I've been running a Win10 Pro (64bit) guest for some time now.... and originally it was pretty snappy and I had no complaints.
Somewhere in about the last 3-6 months I've been noticing sluggish performance -- but not overall.
The system is mostly remote so I do a lot of my admin via RDP or the local console with the KVM Manager.
I recently did a complete fresh install of

can ext3 directory entries be overwritten? -- Re: extremely slow "ls" on a cleared fatty ext3 directory on FC4/5
Hi, all,
I'm a newbie to ext3 file system, but what a pity if
ext3 could not shrink after containing files and
subdirectories get deleted.
If the ext3 directory could not shrink, then another
natural question is: can the deleted directory entries
be overwritten by new files/subdirs? The following is
an example to detail my question:
Suppose a directory named myDir hold 3 files a, b, c.

Multiple TCP/IP printers and smb
I am having trouble setting up our two HP TCP/IP printers under samba.
Both of these printers are listed in the /etc/printcap and printing
works fine from linux. Bellow is a copy of the /etc/smb.conf file:
; /etc/smb.conf
;
; Make sure and restart the server after making changes to this
file, ex:
; /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop
; /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
