UTF-8 & Hebrew
Sorry if this is offtopic. My Win32 comment editor uses a routine of my own to read comments directly from OGG files but uses vorbiscomment.exe to write comments. I've implemented a UTF-8 function which I found on the internet to decode UTF-8. It appears to be working fine for most European characters, however, I have a Russian user using WinXP who is entering Hebrew characters such as

hebrew characters
I'm trying to use rsync (version 2.6.9) to back up some files. However, a few of them contain Hebrew characters. While I can back them up, the filenames come through scrambled (I don't have Hebrew characters anymore). I've tried the -8 switch, but that didn't work. Any suggestions? Background: The files are created on Windows and saved on a samba share (v3.0.24). I can copy

How to read.table with “Hebrew” column names (in R)?
(I am reposting this question after a few months without a solution...) Hi all, I am trying to read a .txt file, with Hebrew column names, but without success. I uploaded an example file to: http://www.talgalili.com/files/aa.txt And tried the command: read.table("http://www.talgalili.com/files/aa.txt", header = T, sep = "\t") This returns me with: X.....ª X...ª......

Hebrew folder names
I'm considering Dovecot for an IMAP server. Can I name the IMAP folders in Hebrew (utf-8) with Dovecot? Any known gotchas? Thanks in advance. Dotan Cohen http://lyricslist.com/ http://what-is-what.com/

Re: Calling 'virsh' from within a hook script - avoid deadlock?
Yes.. I saw that, but I have to :) The issue was solved by converting the hook to Python and using 'subprocess.Popen'. deadlock is gone, all looks good. It's true that libvirt is multithreaded. However, not in terms of multiple write/modify accesses to a single domain.

Calling 'virsh' from within a hook script - avoid deadlock?
I'm trying to create a hook that attaches several virtio-scsi disks to a starting vm, and it seems like the hook enters a deadlock while attempting to do so. Is there any workaround around this? Any better way, forking virsh execution somehow? Could anyone explain why this is creating a deadlock in the first place? Isn't libvirt multithreaded? Thanks for the help! Shlomi ### hook

Hebrew codepage conversion
Hello, Following is a patch against samba 2.0.7 that allows the conversion by samba of DOS codepage 862 filenames (as used by e.g. the hebrew version of MS win 9x) to iso8859-8. I only tested this on my machine, a Debian 2.2 with updates (e.g. glibc 2.2) but the patch seems trivial to me enough to send even though I understand you will probably won't be able to test it against a hebrew

unicode conversion
Hi, We have windows XP and NT workstations. They are configured to support french language. Also we export samba 2.2.8 shares through a solaris 8 machine. But these samba shares are NFS mounted file systems that come from a NAS (Celerra's EMC) In smb.conf: - Character set parameter is not set. - Codepage is 850 In the NAS file server the parameter is set to unicode. FXS vs. FXO
Hello, I've recently purchased Adit 600 with 3FXS and 1FXO to be connected to my * server via T100P card. This is the output of "status equipment" command in the Adit600: For some reason the FXO card is seen as FXS, why? Is it ok? On the card it is written "FXO". Wrong charset when mounting WindowsXP shares
Hello, I don't seem to be able to mount a WindowsXP share with smbmount and get the correct charset. From what I understand Win2000/XP use UTF-8 for SMB shares, so I tried to mount with -o iocharset=utf8 but it did not make any difference. All extended characters are messed up or truncated. Here is what I found out using filenames with a '?': When I mount a

OT: WinNT(2000) player to open files with unicode names?
Sorry for posting somewhat off-topic... Most my music files have names in hebrew (FAT32 partition). I dual-boot between a hebrew win98 (where these files are opened nicely by winamp, freeamp and any other program) and a hebrew win2000, where windows media player is the only program I've seen so far to open them. All others say "can't open file ???? ?? ???.ogg" (or .mp3) - both

BIDI (Hebrew) Support
Hello, I've looked for a BIDI HOW-TO, but did not find any. I use wine-0.9.5, and run IE using ies4linux. It works great including Hebrew showing Hebrew text correctly. The problem is that I could not write any Hebrew character... Whenever I type a character I get "?". So I've looked at wine-bidi issues, and found that I need to compile wine with icu library. I did! using

MS Office in Wine: Hebrew backwards
I must install MS Office in Wine on Ubuntu Linux. It installs fine, but the Hebrew is backwards. Googling the problem led me to this video, which illustrates the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19I2qaykE6w Does anyone know how to fix this? I am on a full UTF-8 Hebrew locale, if that is relevant. I installed MS Office 2003 in English on Kubuntu 8.04. Thanks in advance. $ wine --version

Getting htmlParse to work with Hebrew? (on windows)
Hello dear R-help mailing list. I wish to be able to have htmlParse work well with Hebrew, but it keeps to scramble the Hebrew text in pages I feed into it. For example: # why can't I parse the Hebrew correctly? library(RCurl) library(XML) u = "http://humus101.com/?p=2737" a = getURL(u) a # Here - the hebrew is fine. a2 <- htmlParse(a) a2 # Here it is a mess... Hope someone can help here: I have upgraded from Samba 2.0.7 to Samba 2.2.0 without changing anything in the config files, and everything goes well. Now I am looking at what can and what must be changed for this new version. Currently there are three things in the SmbClient that I am wondering about: - SmbClient constantly complains about a missing codepage (850). After looking at the doc, I

Font for cyrillic letters
Hi. I was trying to make syslinux to display russian letters. This page https://wiki.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Directives/font says that for Cyrillic you need a CP855. Is that correct? All other guides in internet say that you need CP866. I finally got it working. My config file was encoded in ibm866 correctly, but the problem was the font file itself. I am on Arch Linux, so I run gunzip
