Samba, Win XP Not printing
I've been upgrading a client's systems from Win98SE to WinXP and am having an unexpected problem. I have 2 Linux servers. One is a print and fax server which has worked fine with the Win98 workstations. They can browse and find the printer (an HP LaserJet 5Si) and print without problems. The server itself is also running HylaFax and is printing with out a problem. The XP systems

Samba/CUPS Printing from Windows
I've got a Samba server that is acting as a member server in a Windows NT Domain. I enabled CUPS printing yesterday and have shared the 4 printers to the domain. I then added the printers onto a Windows 2000 client, and can print just fine to any of them. But I have two problems (read "annoyances"): 1). When I look at any of the printers from Windows (i.e. Control

Two questions
1) A lot (but not all) of my smbd / nmbd logs are going to /var/log/messages instead of /var/log/samba/ I tried a couple of things in syslog.conf, but just don't know the magic word for samba logs. 2) I'm getting lots of "couldn't find service" errors. I had: [data] path = /data read only = no public = yes browseable = yes writeable

samba slow at overwriting of files
dear samba list members, I recently installed RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.7 (already updated, was 2.2.5 before I think, but with the same problem). now I have the problem, that overwriting of files on shares of that samba machine sometimes is extremely slow. writing new files is fast as ever. but what seems interesting to me is, that it depends on how I'm overwriting files. for example I'm

Status message when printing from Windows 2000
I currently have Samba server I am trying to make into a print server. Things print fine from both the linux box that is running the samba server and the Windows 2000 client. Under the Printers Folder (Start --> Settings --> Printers) the Status message beside the printers on the Samba print server reads 'Access denied, unable to connect'. Again I have to say EVERYTHING prints fine.

Automatic printers don't quite work...
I have a new Centos 5.1 system whicn reports samba version samba 3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4 - and have just added a physical printer. Linux doesn't know the printer (Samsung CLP510) so it is installed as "raw" - no driver. When I use a windows box to browse the network - the printer is visible on the C5 server (without me explicitly creating a share)- and I can "connect" it -

Shares disconnect on XP when Offline Files enabled after migration from v2.x to v3.0.7
Issue: Three WinXP Pro boxes using Offline Files disconnect from all Samba shares when a user either performs a synch or accesses a file on the share with offline files enabled. About half the time, being able to reconnect for any length of time requires a reboot of the WinXP machines. Disabling the Offline Files in Windows alleviates the problem. Background and Network

nobody uid printing, take 2
Hi, Samba 2.0.6 on Solaris 7 or Samba 2.0.5 on Solaris 2.6 security = share Ok, in my previous email on this subject I indicated that switching to security = user might be the right idea to fix the problem I am having. However, this isn't possible for a variety of reasons. So basically, the question is now this: with security = share and the following printer share definition: [printers]

Samba and DOS
Greetings, Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about? Thank You.
