Best way to Upgrade Samba 3.014a
Hello,
I have Samba 3.014a-Debian in a server Debian 3.1 Release 1 Sarge. The
performance is pretty poor.
My LAN is running at 100mbits/sec. So even at 4 feet from the server I'm
getting slow responses on my windoze 2000 pro computer from samba. It takes
an eternity to copy files from one place to the other. Also, I have
several error messages and files corruption.
Could anybody tell me

Samba over Debian Sarge 3.1 R1. This File server store MDBand XLS files.
Daniel,
I am running Debian-sarge as well. I have one samba server that serves as my PDC and one samba server that is a domain member server.
Now, I'm a newbie, still learning, and I probably wouldn't know if the performance on our servers is good or not. So, please take this for what it is worth (probably not much). I have only 7-10 XP clients that access these servers, and folks

Slow Access Database on Samba
Dear All,
We have an access database running on a Samba share (Samba version
3.0.10-1.4E) with a gigabit connection to the network. The front end of the
databases are on the client machines with linked tables stored in a separate
mdb file on the linux server.
For some reason the database runs very slowly when it is set up in this way.
I tested copying a 10 MB file onto the samba share and it

Locks troubles with samba 2.2.2/.3a
Hi,
I just install 2.2.2 in a Red Hat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.16 on ext 3 + lvm.
The problem are the locks!!!!!!
I've 5 users working in .dbf + cdx (foxpro) files with an 16 bits
application. It accesses to the files via DAO 2.0. A lot of times in
the days the users gets 'currently locked' messages when the application
open the dbf's files with read only access!
I desactivated the

"All resource specifications require names": wot?
Hi, everyone --
I downloaded puppet and have been playing with it. I''m using the RPM''s for RHE4 created by David (mentioned on the install page: http://people.redhat.com/dlutter/yum/rhel4/) with RHE''s ruby 1.8.1-7:
ruby-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
ruby-libs-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
ruby-devel-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
I''m sure this is an easy one; all the same, I''m stumped. Please

tuning samba fot better performance with MS Access mdb files
Our Samba file server has a share with an visual basic application,
there are 8 XP clients working with this share.
The problem is that connections are very slow when accessing mdb
databases... we are using MS Access ODBC to connect to the database on
the samba server.
Is there any special tuning for make things better?

Sage Line 50
Hi all,
I am attempting to get Sage to support their software if the files are
on Samba (Linux). They (like a lot of people I've heard) say "We don't
support Linux, Goodbye." even when the client is on Win98/NT. We have been
having trouble on a particular site, and they refuse to support Sage Line
50 if the files are on Linux which is absurd, because Linux is much more

When copying cca 330MB file from server - I can reach rate about

Samba performance issues (compared win2k)
We're running samba in our organization to serve files in a LAN to windows
machines (almost XP), and we're having some performance issues with small
files. With big files (ie, ISO images), it works pretty well. But, when small
files are involved in the transference, problems arise. In the same
environment, a Windows 2000 machine (the 'old' server) is able to send data

Increasing samba performance
Hi.
Between 2 linux (2.6.11 client and 2.6.14 server) machines connected by
a 100Mb link I get samba performance copying a file from the client to
the server through a smbmounted share of around 4.2MB/s
Is this to be expected? Or can it be improved (and if so, how?) I've
tried tweaking SO_(SND/RCV)BUF (after reading numerous articles on
samba performance...), but it doesn't seem to have

Excessive traffic causing slow logons
I am seeing some extremely slow logons to my SUSE servers. All are
configured exactly the same. When I attempt to log on, I can enter my
domain (AD) account without any problems. I then enter my password and
sit and wait for several minutes until it eventually takes me to my
desktop. In attempting to debug the problem, we have been able to see
millions of calls to the domain controller. They

PDC without WINS - performance boost?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have an unsolved problem with WINS, when i was setting the PDC i
connected it to a lan (DHCP) to update the OS, and when i changed it to
production environment i defined a static IP.
Even after clearing the cache WINS still looks for the old ip to get
browse syncs.
I've seen this issue posted in some threads in the samba mailing list as
well as
