I have a problem configuring my install of samba on solaris, version 3.0.22 which was downloaded from the link below. It appears to install correctly when running the 'pkgadd -d <file>' command, but i wish to be able to configure it to use the winbindd daemon (i.e. run ./configure --with-winbind) but i am unsure how i do this as i am unable to find the configure utility to be able

authentication performance problem
Hi guys, I'm running a NT Domain hosted on two Debian GNU/Linux Sarge servers running Samba (respectively as PDC and as member server), with lots of horsepower (dual-cpu with 1GB RAM or more each). Samba itself is behaving blazingly fast, from both servers. I use winbind on the member server, of course. Still, on this machine I see each week a huge performance drop related authentication, to

What version of Samba will work with an AIX version of Unix?
Hi all We are currently looking to implement a scenario where our AIX Unix Server and Windows Server can communicate with each other using a version of Samba. We currently scan images which are stored on our Unix system and ideally we would like our Windows Server to have access to these files. The software we use for our daily business is Unix based so the the scanned images have to be

samba.org Solaris binary is incompatible with Mac OS 10.2.x as client
More precisely what I've discovered is, at least in the cases of 2.2.8a and 3.0alpha22, when a 64-bit Samba is built with Sun's Forte compiler you'll end up with something incompatible with Mac OS 10.2.3. I always compile Samba myself with Sun's compiler to produce a 64-bit Samba. Well yesterday it came to my attention that Mac OS 10.2.x doesn't work with whats on my main

Building 3.0.21x on AIX 5.2
I've followed the instructions in the README at http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/ for building 3.0.21x on AIX 5.2 ('oslevel -r' reports '5200-07'). The last version I was able to build on the system was 3.0.14a. 3.0.21c's configure completes with no errors, but the make immediately bombs with: # make Using FLAGS = -O -D_SAMBA_BUILD_ -I./popt

cannot start smbd on AIX 5.3
Help please. I am in the process of configuring Samba 3.0.14a onto 4 AIX 5.3 systems. It seems to be working OK on 3 of the 4, but on the last one, I cannot start smbd. nmbd seems to start fine. The smb.conf file matches the other servers except that the server name is changed. Here's the error showing up on the log.smbd file. [2007/05/02 15:19:47, 0] smbd/server.c:main(835) standard

Samba on Debian: Sarge -> Etch = broken guest shares
I upgraded a server from Debian Sarge to Etch the other day. Today I discovered a fairly major issue... All the shares I had set up for guest access have stopped working. The shares are meant to be writable by me and a few others, and read only for guest, but it's flat out refusing to authenticate anyone using guest (or unknown users which should be mapping to guest). SMB.conf is below

Samba 3.0.23c, ACL and Debian Sarge
Dear All, I search for the packages of samba for GNU/Debian sarge with acl compiled inside. In fact I did try the 2 links provided by the web site but it still doesn't work ACL and Samba 2.0.23c (samba.org and entreprisesamba.org). This is an upgrade from the 3.0.14a, with this version the ACL support was ok. No it doesn't work anymore (Samba only see the basic rigths). Regards,

Binary_Packages/Debian
Dear users, I have uploaded the new 3.0.25a packages compiled for sarge. At the same time I have removed older 2.2.x and 3.0.x packages for Woody. Support for back porting packages to Woody was already discontinued, but older packages were still provided. As these packages were not updated after the recent security issues, I decided to remove them to avoid pushing people to use outdated and

GPG signature of the RC tarballs
Hi. It looks like the gpg signatures of the RC2 and RC3 tarballs are bogus... I've tested the .bz2 and .tar.gz files downloaded from the us1 and us4 mirrors. To confirm that it's not a local problem, I've tested the signature of the Samba_CA.crt file (http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/) and it's ok. Can someone else please confirm it? Thanks. - Ademar $ gpg --verify

Printer Device Modes
Greetings Admins, The howto details setting the device mode using a windows client: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/printing.html#id2552900 Is there a way to script this process? We support 260+ printers and it's a pain in the ass. (My wrist is hurting!) regards, Ryan

Debian Binary Packages from samba.org
I'm reshaping Binary_Packages/Debian directory to allow us to release binary packages for both Woody and Sarge. You may expect some problems downloading our debs, while I try out the new trees. The good news are that there you will find samba 3.0.20b packages for Woody and Sarge as soon as our mirrors get in sync. I must thank Debian Samba maintainers, Eloy and Steve, for their work on

upgrade samba
How does one move from a rpm based samba to tar.gz? In other words how do I upgrade from samba-2.2.1a-4 to samba-2.2.6.tar.gz. Do I remove samba : rpm -e samba? And what do I do with the other samba rpm packages: samba-client-2.2.1a-4 & samba-common-2.2.1a-4? Are they included with the tar package? Using RH7.2.
