Synchronising password of some AD users with an external LDAP?
I'm in a situation where I should establish an external (i.e. non-AD) LDAP directory for my employer for various web-based authentication purposes. I don't think that Samba--or Windows AD, for that matter--in and itself would be the best tool for this purpose; so far I've been reviewing 389 DS, ApacheDS, OpenDJ and plain old OpenLDAP, but have made no final decision yet. Now however,

Synchronising Japanese Characters in Rsync
Hi there, I have searched the rsync website, as well as an extensive search on google, but have been unable to come up with a definitive answer regarding whether rsync will synchronise files and directories which have Japanese characters in them. I am using an English language version of Linux, which has some directories shared via samba. Both English and Japanese language windows clients

Questions about time synchronisation in a multi-DC Samba environment
Hi All, I am currently running a setup with a main DC ad1, that has ntpd installed and is currently configured to retrieve the time from the UK NTP time pool. I also have a second backup AD DC, ad2, on which I have not installed ntpd but I have installed ntpdate. My current understanding is that the setup I have just described is in-line with the recommended best practices outlined in the

Problem achieving manual synchronisation of idmap.ldb and the associated User and Group ID mappings between two Samba 4 AD DCs
Hi Rowland! No, I haven't synced my SysVol yet. I was following the official tutorial here, https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory. This tutorial appears to suggest that idmap.ldb files should be synchronised first prior to setting up any rsync SysVol synchronisation. Thanks Stephen On 26/03/2019 10:59, Rowland Penny via samba wrote: > On

Problem achieving manual synchronisation of idmap.ldb and the associated User and Group ID mappings between two Samba 4 AD DCs
Hi everyone, I have two AD DCs that I am experimenting with, hostnames ad1 and ad2 respectively. I am using Raspberry Pi hardware, and accordingly I am using Samba 4.5.16-Debian on Raspbian Linux. I have already had some success so far setting up a second AD DC, ad2, and joining this to my existing Active Directory domain SAMDOM. I have already verified that I can create new user accounts on

PATCH: --write-devices to allow synchronising to a block device
Hi List, I had a need recently to efficiently synchronise between some large LUNs (boot drive disks) at two different datacentres. Solutions like drbd and $proprietary_array_vendors_software were overkill - we only needed (wanted!) to periodically synchronise these LUNs whenever major changes were generated on the source. On the other hand however, re-sending the entire disk contents each time

Time Synchronisation
Hi. I'm running on a Windows 98 client and an RS6000 with Samba 2.0.7 (latest). I've used "net time \\ibrissde /SET /YES" to sync the times between the two systems ... but if I save a file onto the RS6000 through Samba on a mapped drive the file in UNIX is 1 hour old. I haven't been able to find any help on this so I'm assuming it's a bug !? This was also true

What is the default compression level for local synchronisation?
Searching the 'net showed that rsync asks zlib to use default compression which is equivalent to --compress-level=6 (http://samba.2283325.n4.nabble.com/what-is-the-default-value-for-compress-level-tp2538905.html) but that would not be a good choice for local synchronisation. Should we use --compress-level=0 for local synchronisation? We are using rsync 3.0.9 and 3.1.1.

double-side synchronisation
Help me Tell it is possible to make double-side synchronisation of two servers? So that it passed only on time. For example at an identical set of files on two servers any file on the first to change, i.e. for it time modify will exchange. It means becomes newer and it is necessary to transfer it to other server. And on the contrary, if modification time for any file of the second server it to

Xen crash on dom0 shutdown
There is a BUG_ON() at xen/arch/x86/physdev.c:169 which appears to be dependent upon guest behavior (should close event channel before un-mapping pirq), rather than on internal hypervisor state. In 2.6.18, this likely goes unnoticed because pci_device_shutdown() only calls all the driver shutdown routines. In newer kernels, however, it also calls pci_msi_shutdown() and pci_msix_shutdown(), which

Duplicate record weirdness ?
First off BackgroundRb rocks!!!!. Top marks Ezra, it''s gone a long way to stopping us from doing a nasty curl/cron hack :) Okay so here''s what we''re using it for. We''re synchronising data from a Filemaker database, via web service equest, into a mysql database via a rails model called ''Syncer'' [How''s that for an oddball use case!].

smbfs: intermittent failures when accessing W2K server
I think I am experiencing a problem with samba 2.2.8 and kernel 2.4.20. I am using these versions on a number of computers in a render farm. These (Linux) computers use smbfs to access a Windows 2000 file server. Two things that I notice: 1) The rendering application (Maya) fails due to a failure to access files on the file server when first run after the Linux machine is started.

Hello All, I am trying to set up a sync between google apps professional and samba4, we are currently in the fase to use samba4 instead of our current windows 2008 AD. Minor synchronisation quibble in scsifront
I''ve been having a look through scsifront again, and I saw this bit: ring_req->timeout_per_command = (sc->timeout_per_command / HZ); ring_req->nr_segments = 0; spin_unlock_irq(host->host_lock); scsifront_do_request(info); wait_event_interruptible(info->shadow[ring_req->rqid].wq_reset, info->shadow[ring_req->rqid].wait_reset); in

Using rsync for two-waz-synchronisation
Hello, is there any way to use rsync for two-way-syncronisation? I want to use it to keep the data on two hosts consistent. Sometimes one of this hosts (sometimes the first, sometimes the second) changes its location. If the two hosts are at the same location I want automatically rsync them. The data only changes at one hosts but it is not defined on which host it changes. For example: I have

Samba Time Synchronisation wikipage
I have update the Time Synchronisation Wikipage: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Time_Synchronisation It now includes information for the 'chrony' time server. If you spot any errors or omissions, or if you think that something could be said better, please report back ;-) Could I also thank Louis Van Belle for proofreading the page. Rowland
