Samba & Linux SMP kernel
Greetings all,
I'm still struggling with Samba 2.0.7-4 on a RedHat Linux 6.2 box and I'm
wondering if there are any known issues when using samba on a box with
multiple processors. I *seem* to recall reading something about this quite
awhile ago, but I can't find it and don't remember enough about it to be
useful. :-( Currently I'm using 1.9.18p10-52.4 on the box

Forced file locking - thanks
Greetings all,
I apologize for the lateness of this reply. I've been having (and still
am) problems with my local telco. I'm lucky to connect at 9600 at this
point and even then it's not exactly an error-free transmission. <sigh>
I wanted to thank those who offered advice & suggestions concerning my file
locking problem. I have tried every combination of oplocks, strict

netlogon error?
Greetings all,
I'm running a RedHat 5.0 (kernel 2.0.32) Linux box with samba 1.9.18p7 and
I'm having a problem with my netlogon share. NT domain logons are working
just fine, but I keep getting the following message in /var/log/messages,
repeated every day for every user logging in:

JetDirect
Hi,
WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now.
The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago
(within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a
time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you
_MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??)
This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

Win'95 printer lock-ups & filters
Greetings all,
I hope this is appropriate for this list, if not I'll take it somewhere
else. ;-)
Printer lock-ups:
I have some printer shares available on my Samba server (RedHat Linux
kernel 2.0.32, Samba 1.9.18p3) and they are working just fine in most
cases, but from time to time the Win '95 client will either lock up while
printing or send a print job samba & lpd don't like

machine account not accessible
Hi,
I'm setting up a PDC, but joining the clients (w2k, nt4) fails.
I use this in smb.conf:
add user script = add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u
Just using the script I get the error: "no account in domain" under
linux. Useradd itself works but it seems to fail for samba.
All clients originally used a nt4 PDC. Now this nt4 PDC must be

High oplock break fail count
Hi all,
we've just recently switched to a new file server upgrading to samba 2.0.3.
Unfortunately I've noticed that a couple of times a day a smbd process dies
with 'oplock break failed' so I actually had to turn off oplocks thus
degrading performance drastically. Does anybody have any idea why oplock
breaks are failing so often now?
Cheers,

Remote backups of Unix machines
My boss asked me to investigate a free (as in no cost) solution that
would allow us to archive our AIX server onto the 12 gig tape drive
sitting on our Linux server.
I tried doing an SMB share with valid user set to root, but this
apparently loses the permissions that the AIX box uses (everything is
owned root/root), making it rather useless for backup and restore.
Can SMB do what I need, or

Can't add machine account to domain
I am running samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 on RedHat 9.0. The domain I am trying
to join has a different name than the workgroup I am trying to leave.
Below is a copy of the last two entries of the computer_name.log, which
are created when I try to add the machine account.

hi,
I've a problem with adding workstations to my samba/ldap pdc - if i add

Bundle Install failing on deployment
Hi,
I have upgraded an app to 3.1.0.rc5 and everything is fine locally.
When I try to deploy with capistrano, bundle install fails with the

no mapping between account names and security ids was done
I use a openLDAP database for authentication on my Redhat 7.2 server. The
domain is "HOME". I have had no problem adding trust accounts and
authenticating against it.
Today I had to change the name of my Win2K workstation from poseiden to
poseiden1 for compatibility with a package I am testing. Once I changed it
and put in a new trust account, I could not rejoin the domain.
I gave up and

Machine account found and not found in 3.0.2
Brad,
I found your posting of 2/20/2004 with the subject line of
"upgraded to 3.0.2 -> funkyness in machine accounts" while investigating a
similar problem.
I upgraded to 3.0.2 last week from 3.0.0.
I have a system which I just added to the domain successfully. However, when I
attempt to log a domain user onto that machine, I get this error:

No account in domain for workstation after upgrade
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade an old samba-ldap PDC (2.2.x) to a newer one. I
use the same machine, so i've dumped the ldap database and imported it
on the new config (using the perl script provided in samba to convert
accounts), edited all my config files, and then started the new PDC. All
seems to run fine, smbldap-tools still works, but there is a problem on
windows workstations. When a

But still the clients do net get added to the Domain. Now If I add Suse
